Tariff revenue makes it hard for Supreme Court to rule against Trump, Bessent says
WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Increasing revenues flowing into U.S. government coffers from tariffs would make it difficult for the Supreme Court to rule against the Trump administration on the issue if a lower court case makes its way to country's top court, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Tuesday. "The more money coming in, it gets harder and harder for SCOTUS to rule against us," Bessent said in an interview on Fox Business Network's "Kudlow." Bessent was responding to a question about a case currently in front of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C., which challenges the legality of what Trump calls "reciprocal" tariffs as well as a separate set of tariffs imposed in February against China, Canada and Mexico.

Tennis Hall of Famer Monica Seles opens up on myasthenia gravis diagnosis
NEW YORK — Tennis great Monica Seles has revealed she was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis — a chronic neuromuscular autoimmune disease, also known as MG — three years ago. Ahead of the 2025 U.S. Open, which kicks off next week in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, the 51-year-old Hall of Famer opened up about her health journey for the first time. 'It took me quite some time to really absorb it, speak openly about it, because it's a difficult one. It affects my day-to-day life quite a lot,' she told the Associated Press. Seles — whose career included nine Grand Slam titles, seven of them before she turned 19 — revealed she was referred to a neurologist after first noticing symptoms such as double vision and weakness in her arms and legs. 'I would be playing with some kids or family members, and I would miss a ball. I was like, 'Yeah, I see two balls.' These are obviously symptoms that you can't ignore,' said the Yugoslavia native. She added that everyday activities like blowing out her hair 'became very difficult' as a result. Seles said she plans to attend the U.S. Open later this month, in partnership with an event with immunology company Argenx aimed at raising awareness about MG. According to the Cleveland Clinic, myasthenia gravis can also target muscles in the face and neck with symptoms including difficulty speaking, swallowing or chewing. MG happens when the body's immune system mistakenly attacks itself, though the cause of the condition is unclear. 'Studies suggest that certain immune system cells in your thymus gland have trouble identifying what's a threat to your body (like bacteria or viruses) versus healthy components,' the clinic adds. MG is incurable, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, but can be treated through thymus gland removal surgery, lifestyle changes and more.

Former aide to NYC Mayor Eric Adams pleads guilty in straw donor scheme
NEW YORK — Former City Hall aide Mohamed Bahi pleaded guilty to conspiracy Tuesday for his role in organizing illegal straw donor contributions toward Eric Adams's 2021 campaign for mayor. Bahi, 41, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy related to wire fraud in Manhattan federal court. He admitted to helping to organize a December 2020 fundraiser at which construction company employees donated money they'd later be reimbursed. Bahi said he did so knowing Adams's campaign would be able to use the donations to seek matching funds from the city 'and that it was wrong.' In a separate case, Adams was accused of soliciting bribes and illegal contributions to both his 2021 and 2025 campaigns, mostly from Turkish government operatives. Those charges were dropped in a controversial move by President Donald Trump's Justice Department. As part of his plea deal, Bahi waived his right to appeal and agreed to pay $32,000 in restitution and between $2,000 to $20,000 in fines. The terms will be set at his sentencing, which was set for Nov. 18. ----------
