He said such programmes give local entrepreneurs and the public access to information about entrepreneurship initiatives while promoting local products to a broader audience.
'This effort is also a step towards engaging the people, ensuring that the promotion of MADANI Government development programmes extends beyond selected areas.
'This is proof that the MADANI Government never neglects its responsibilities to the people, no matter where they are,' he said in his speech at the closing ceremony of the PMR 2025 at the Tawau Municipal Council Square today. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim officiated the closing ceremony.
Hajiji also expressed hope that the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Co-operatives (KUSKOP) will continue to provide such programmes in Sabah, thereby empowering entrepreneurship development in the state.
He said several entrepreneurship initiatives have been introduced in Sabah, including the 'Premis Tamu Desa' project, the TEKUN TikTok Shop, and the establishment of the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Hub by SME Corporation Malaysia, which benefits over 50,000 MSME entrepreneurs in Sabah.
'The ehsan@KUSKOP initiative is a viable means to eradicate extreme poverty through targeted interventions that include mentoring, training, funding, and thorough monitoring,' he said.
Hajiji also called for better access to banking services, particularly from KUSKOP-affiliated agencies like Bank Rakyat, by suggesting opening more branches or installing ATMs in rural areas.
He added that Sabah also offers various entrepreneurship development programmes for youth, such as the Youth Entrepreneur Success Scheme, under the Sabah Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Hajiji said programmes such as the Graduate Entrepreneur Scheme Workshop (BUSS) and the Technical Entrepreneur Scheme Workshop (BEST) are provided for graduates and university leavers under the Sabah Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Ministry.
'The state government, through Yayasan Usaha Maju (YUM), an agency established in 1995, continues to support traders by offering microloans to targeted groups, including women entrepreneurs who require capital to grow their businesses,' he said.
He added that Sabah has significantly reduced poverty and hardcore poverty rates and remains committed to intensifying efforts to eliminate hardship in the state.
Hajiji expressed optimism that the strong ties between the state and federal governments will continue to be strengthened.
'We are optimistic that the cooperation and close ties between the state and federal governments are essential for our collective success in achieving the goals of a MADANI society that is progressive, knowledgeable, possesses integrity, and thrives in a prosperous and harmonious environment,' he added.

Dr Zaliha says PPR eviction fears overblown, genuine B40 tenants safe under DBKL's ‘whitening' process
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 — The government has assured that genuinely eligible B40 households will not be affected by the ongoing People's Housing Programme (PPR) whitening exercise carried out by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL). Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the Madani government inherited a big challenge in ensuring that PPR facilities truly reach those who are in need. She said that with rental rates as low as RM124 per month, PPR homes are among the government's major subsidies to help B40 families live more comfortably in the capital city, and the whitening process aims to ensure fairness in the allocation process. 'I felt compelled to respond to the issue of PPR eviction notices that have caused public concern in recent days. For those affected and wishing to appeal, they can do so within 30 days. 'For tenants facing rental arrears, DBKL is ready to negotiate instalment rates and schedules. Tenants only need to pledge to comply with the agreed schedule so that they can continue to stay in the PPR homes under the agreed-upon terms,' she said in a Facebook post today. Zaliha said DBKL has set clear eligibility conditions for tenants, including being a married Malaysian citizen couple, having a household income not exceeding RM3,000 for low-cost and RM4,000 for medium-cost units. Tenants must also not own any property or land within 35 kilometres of the city centre, hold the status of widow, widower, single parent, living or working in Kuala Lumpur, and be registered with DBKL. 'The whitening process conducted by DBKL is to enforce these conditions. 'Tenants were notified six months before the end of their lease, which is a standard review procedure carried out each time a rental contract expires,' she explained. She said out of the 3,379 tenants reviewed, 3,031 tenants or 89.7 per cent remain eligible and can continue renting, while 348 tenants or 10.3 per cent failed to have their leases renewed due to violations such as high rental arrears, household income exceeding eligibility limits, owning property within 35 km of Kuala Lumpur, non-citizen status of spouses, and not residing in the PPR unit. 'For the record, current arrears for PPR and DBKL public housing have reached up to RM70 million. This long-standing issue must be boldly addressed to ensure public housing initiatives are fair and truly assist those in need. 'Vacant units resulting from the whitening exercise will be reassigned to applicants with the greatest need,' she said. — Bernama

MAHA, HPPNK Reflect growing Public Interest In Agriculture
GENERAL PUTRAJAYA, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- The success of the Malaysian Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism (MAHA) 2024 exhibition and the National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen Day (HPPNK) 2025 demonstrates the growing public interest in agriculture, said Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu. The Agriculture and Food Security Minister said the next edition of MAHA is expected to be even more vibrant, not only in terms of visitor turnout but also in sales value and wider participation, especially among youths. 'Last year's MAHA drew over five million visitors. For the next edition, we aim to attract a higher number of visitors, increase sales value and foster a deeper understanding among those involved in this sector. 'The government wants agriculture to be seen not as a part-time job but as a main source of income. We are now seeing more young people entering this field,' he said in his speech at the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry's (KPKM) Monthly Assembly in conjunction with the National Month 2025 celebration here today. MAHA 2024, which marked its 100th edition, recorded more than 5.5 million visitors and direct sales worth RM48.5 million during its 12-day run at the Malaysian Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) from Sept 11-22 last year. The HPPNK 2025, held in Sabah from Aug 1-3, received over 500,000 visitors and generated sales exceeding RM15 million. Meanwhile, KPKM secretary-general Datuk Seri Isham Ishak said the next MAHA is expected to highlight technological advancements, including high-quality seed production to boost yields and competitiveness. 'We want to raise the quality of MAHA by focusing on new technology and investment opportunities, including ICT-based programmes. This is to create more agropreneurs, optimise idle land and tackle climate change challenges,' he said. MAHA is a biennial event held at MAEPS, Serdang, with its most recent edition in September 2024.
