Met Gala 2025: Cynthia Erivo flashes her legs in a showstopping beaded bodysuit and a dramatic black skirt as she hits the star-studded carpet
Cynthia Erivo put on a leggy display as she hit the blue carpet at the 2025 Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Benefit Gala on Monday.
The actress, 38, looked every inch the Hollywood showstopper in a sparkling beaded bodysuit with a huge collar and voluminous skirt from Givenchy.
Cynthia added inches to her frame in a pair of knee high lace up boots and toted a coordinated handbag.
The Wicked star waved to the crowds showing off her iconic long nails, which coordinated with her red, white and black ensemble.
Cynthia let her dramatic long black train cascaded behind her as she made her way up the famous Met steps.
The singer, who is set to reprise her role as Elphaba in Wicked later this year, was all smiles as she posed up a storm on the star-studded blue carpet.
Deemed the Oscars of the East Coast, the Met Gala sees some of the biggest stars descend on the iconic The Metropolitan Museum of Art for the annual charity event.
Teyana Taylor, La La Anthony and Ego Nwodim hosted the Vogue livestream, with Emma Chamberlain tasked with doing interviews on the blue carpet.
This year's is also the first Met Gala in more than 20 years to have a menswear theme, with the focus being Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.
This gala is also being hosted by a group of Black male celebrities, including Williams, the musical artist and Louis Vuitton menswear director, and Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo, and A$AP Rocky named as co-chairs.
LeBron James, who was named an honorary chair, previously announced that he will miss the gala due to the knee injury he suffered in the Lakers' season-ending loss to the Timberwolves during Game 5 of their first-round playoff series last Wednesday.
As this year's honorary chair, the NBA 's all-time leading scorer shared that his wife, Savannah James, will attend in his place.
'Unfortunately because of my knee injury I sustained at the end of the season I won't be able to attend the Met Gala in NY tonight as so many people have been asking and congratulating me on!' James, 40, wrote on X, just hours before the Met Gala red carpet event.
They're joined by Vogue's Anna Wintour, the mastermind behind the gala, considered the year's biggest and starriest party.
While the co-chairs were already announced, the leaked list has only fueled the hype.
The A-list lineup is packed with stars like Rihanna, Sydney Sweeney, Hailey Bieber, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Cynthia Erivo.
Bad Bunny, Donatella Versace, Vera Wang, Usher, Kerry Washington, Jeremy Allen White, and Suki Waterhouse are also on the guest list.
It's shaping up to be a night packed with Hollywood's biggest names — t hough some fans were surprised to see a few notable absences.
The gala raises the bulk of the curation budget for the museum´s Costume Institute.
This year, it's about tailoring and suiting as interpreted through the history and meaning of Black dandyism across the Atlantic diaspora.
The theme is inspired by the annual spring exhibition, which this year is based in large part on Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, a book written by Monica L. Miller. She is guest curator of the exhibit.
'Historical manifestations of dandyism range from absolute precision in dress and tailoring to flamboyance and fabulousness in dress and style,' Miller writes in the exhibit catalog.
'Whether a dandy is subtle or spectacular, we recognize and respect the deliberateness of the dress, the self-conscious display, the reach for tailored perfection, and the sometimes subversive self-expression.'
How the dress code goes, in terms of taste and style, is anyone's guess. Wintour has a hand in virtually all things gala, so the presumption is things can't go too far off the rails.
She recently knocked down the rumour that she approves all looks, telling Good Morning America she'll only weigh in if asked.
Just days before the fundraiser, Sarah Jessica Parker, left fans stunned as she, sadly, confirmed she would not be attending due to a scheduling conflict.
'I have to work,' the Sex and The City star told Entertainment Tonight. 'But there's going to be so much to see, and I look forward to seeing what everybody does and how they interpret the theme and the homework they did for the assignment. A very joyful assignment.'
While speaking about fashion's biggest night, the Golden Globe winner continued: 'I care a lot about it and I want to try to honor the work of the curators and everybody who sort of inspired this moment for those of us who get to attend.'
Brooklyn Beckham and his wife Nicola Peltz are also among the newly released names of celebrities opting to skip the highly exclusive, annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute.
On Monday, a source revealed to The Sun that Brooklyn had planned on father David Beckham's 50th birthday bash instead of the Met Gala.
The couple, however, were noticeably no-shows at David's London celebration on Saturday, with the reason behind their fallout revealed here by Mail+.
And despite a string of showstopping looks, Jennifer Lopez is also set to skip this year's gala, with DailyMail.com learning that the star will be busy working on her new film Office Romance.
The Sun reported that Brooklyn felt to uncomfortable to go amid rumors that Nicola was being blamed for a rift with his family.
'They cancelled plans to attend the Met because they really intended to be at David's party on Saturday,' the insider said.
The exhibit, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, draws on other sources beyond Miller's book. It's organised into 12 sections.
Each symbolises a characteristic of dandy style as defined by Zora Neale Hurston in her 1934 essay, Characteristics of Negro Expression.
The guest list amounts to about 450 high-profile people from tech, sports, art, entertainment and more.

Secret meaning behind Cynthia Erivo's Tony Awards dress leaves viewers emotional... did YOU catch it?
Cynthia Erivo opened the 2025 Tony Awards with a dazzling performance... but it was her choice of ensemble that has truly caught everyone's attention. The actress and singer, 38, displayed her amazing vocals as she kicked off the show by singing an original song called Sometimes All You Need Is a Son. It contained clever tributes to many of the nominated Broadway shows sprinkled throughout the lyrics and a slew of backup singers who added a gospel touch. Cynthia - who is hosting the star-studded event - opted for a sparkly, floor-length red dress for the performance, which contained a white belt and collar. Fans were quick to notice a small detail about the stunning gown that left them emotional. Many theorized the ensemble had a hidden meaning behind it and that gave a nod to an iconic Broadway show. Viewers rushed to X, formerly Twitter, to point out that the dress looked just like the red gown that the titular character wears in the beloved musical Annie. 'Cynthia Erivo looking like Annie I think I am gonna like it here,' one user wrote. Viewers rushed to X, formerly Twitter, to point out that the dress Cynthia wore looked just like the red gown that the titular character wears in the beloved musical Annie 'Cynthia in this little orphan Annie fit,' added another. 'Anyone else see it?' asked someone else alongside a side-by-side of Cynthia on stage and Annie in the 1982 film. 'Thought she was dressed kind of like Santa for a hot minute before I realized it is more likely a nod to Annie,' read a fourth tweet. A different person joked that the dress was 'giving sexy orphan Annie.' Cynthia drew a mixed reaction from the performance, with some fans calling it electrifying and others branding it cringeworthy. Others slammed Oprah Winfrey for 'crashing' Cynthia's moment. The 38-year-old had just begun her walk from backstage to center stage when Oprah suddenly appeared onscreen to offer her support. The iconic TV host even referenced Cynthia's now-viral finger-holding moment with Ariana Grande during last year's Wicked promo tour. But viewers slammed her involvement as 'unnecessary' and distracting. 'Oprah had to ruin the moment. Of course she had to put herself in the beginning #TonyAwards,' one frustrated fan posted. Another chimed in, 'Oprah was unnecessary #TonyAwards.' And a third wrote bluntly, 'Why does Oprah have to be in everything?' The Tony Awards kicked off at 8pm and is honoring the biggest stars and shows on Broadway. It will feature a slew of dazzling performances from some of the hottest shows of the year - as well as an emotional reunion from the original Hamilton cast in honor of the 10th anniversary. While some stars wowed in glamorous dresses and stunning looks on the red carpet before hand, others completely missed the mark with their ensembles.
