Ishaan Khatter's memory of Amitabh Bachchan from the sets of 'Sooryavansham' is pure gold: "I kept saying ‘Bade Miyan, Bade Miyan," shares the actor
Ishaan Khatter
recently took a trip down memory lane and shared an endearing childhood anecdote involving none other than
Amitabh Bachchan
.
Speaking to Mid-Day, Ishaan recalled visiting the set of the 1999 cult classic Sooryavansham, where his mother
Neelima Azeem
played a pivotal role.
What made the visit unforgettable was a playful moment between young Ishaan and Big B himself.
'She once took me to the sets of Sooryavansham, and apparently, I kept saying 'Bade Miyan, Bade Miyan' to Amitabh Bachchan, because I had seen Bade Miyan Chote Miyan,' Ishaan laughed
Big B's warm gesture
According to Ishaan, Amitabh Bachchan didn't just smile at the child's enthusiasm, but he picked him up. 'My mom later told me, 'You were the only kid he lifted, and you pulled his beard!' And he just smiled and said, 'It's okay.''
A silent helping hand
This wasn't the only time Amitabh Bachchan left a mark on Ishaan's life. In a separate interview with Mashable India, Ishaan had earlier revealed that Big B had once helped his mother secure his school admission. 'She was trying to get me into Jamnabai Narsee School, and he very kindly spoke to the authorities himself,' he shared.
While most people associate 'Sooryavansham' with countless TV re-runs, for Ishaan Khatter, the film is linked to something far more personal—a warm, formative memory of the cinema world and a gentle superstar who didn't mind a little tug on his beard.

Dilip Kumar – A memory that will never fade: The soul of Indian cinema
It has been four years since the curtains fell on one of Indian cinema's brightest stars on July 7, 2021, yet the memory of Dilip Kumar remains etched in every heart that ever felt the magic of movies. For generations, he wasn't just an actor—he was THE actor. The one who redefined screen presence, emotion, dignity, and discipline in performance. Today, even as time continues to move forward, his legacy stands still—untouched and immortal. Saira Banu : A Love That Lives Beyond Time On his 4th death anniversary, Saira Banu, the woman who stood beside him through decades of love and devotion, shared a tear-streaked memory. 'I've learned to live with him, even in his absence,' she said. Saira Banu shared a heartfelt video featuring photos of Dilip Kumar from his iconic films and younger days. For the caption, she wrote, 'The dearth of Sahib could never go… and yet, I am still with him One in thought, in mind, in life. In this lifetime, and in the next, my soul has learnt to walk beside him even in his absence. Each year, this day finds me cradling Sahib's memories like delicate blossoms. His admirers, well-wishers, friends and family they never forget.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Luxury Apartments With Sundecks In Dombivli Lodha Opulis Learn More Undo 'Their messages of love and remembrance arrive like prayers, wrapped in warmth. And I read each one with a heart full of gratitude, knowing that the world still holds space for the man Sahib was and forever will be.' The veteran actress added, 'You see, Sahib wasn't just my life's greatest joy He was an entire era. An inspiration across six generations of actors and the guiding star for those yet to come. He was the finest companion to great statesmen Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Sahab, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sahab, Narasimha Rao Sahab and counted among his dearest friends some of the sharpest minds lawyers, economists, industrialists but never once was he removed from the common man's soul. ' 'He adored sports played cricket and football like he'd been born on the fieldand often said, 'If not destiny, I would have been a national-level sportsman.' But destiny had its own plans and gave the world the greatest actor of all time instead. Behind the icon, though, was a tender, charming, witty man. Sharing glimpses of his playful and tender nature, Saira recalled one particular evening when Dilip Sahib quietly slipped away from a gathering at home, leaving behind a simple, affectionate note: 'Feeling sleepy, what do you suggest, Aunty?... Yours 100%.' It's in these everyday moments, she said, that his love, wit, and unforgettable presence live on. Saira Banu concluded the note writing, 'He made the ordinary moments eternal. And through every jest, every note, every glance he left behind something rare: Love that lingers. Dilip Sahib is forever. Beyond time. Beyond life. May Allah continue to keep him wrapped in His noor and mercy. Aameen.' Dharmendra 's Tribute: A Brother in Arms Veteran actor Dharmendra, who always regarded Dilip Saab as an elder brother, also paid tribute, reminiscing about the wisdom and warmth he always found in Kumar's presence. He shared an unseen black-and-white photo featuring the two of them playing a game of arm wrestling on his Instagram handle today. Alongside the monochrome photo, the 'Dharam Veer' actor wrote, 'Today is such a heartbreaking and unforgettable day… On this very day, my dearest brother, everyone's beloved actor, the god of the film industry, a noble and great human being… Dilip Saheb… left us forever. This loss is unbearable, but I find some comfort in believing that he is still somewhere nearby.' The King Behind the Curtain: Tabassum's Unseen Dilip Kumar In a heartfelt, exclusive conversation, the late Tabassum Ji opened up about the side of Dilip Kumar very few got to witness. 'He wasn't just a superstar—he was family,' she said. One memory, vivid in her heart, took place at a lavish party hosted at his bungalow. While dignitaries dined in grandeur, the superstar chose to sit on the stairs with his young friend Tabassum, eating khichdi with pudina chutney alongside his staff. 'He treated everyone equally—whether it was a co-actor or a cook,' she said, voice trembling with emotion. His Urdu couplet choice— "Ek hi saf mein khade ho gaye Mahmood-o-Ayaz..." —wasn't a quote for effect, it was how he lived. Without ego. Without walls. Without illusions," concluded late Tabassum in an old interview. Framed! When legends come together The Silent Samaritan Behind his larger-than-life image stood a man whose charity never made headlines. He gave without asking for attention—distributing food, clothes, and money discreetly. The 'tragedy king' who moved millions to tears on screen, was off screen a king with a heart of gold—who smiled quietly while wiping others' tears. Nana Patekar: Lunch with a Legend For an actor like Nana Patekar, who has seen the highs and lows of the industry, meeting Dilip Kumar was no less than winning an Oscar. Recalling a memory, Nana once said, 'He invited me for lunch after I won the National Award. It was raining, I was drenched. He dried my hair and gave me his shirt.' The simplicity of the gesture revealed the depth of Dilip Kumar's grace—an elder who didn't act his kindness but lived it. A Torchbearer of Method Acting Long before 'method acting' became a buzzword in India, Dilip Kumar embodied it. Films like 'Devdas' , 'Mughal-e-Azam' , 'Ganga Jamuna' , and 'Naya Daur' showcased not just his versatility, but his unparalleled ability to feel the role. In 'Devdas' , he didn't just play a doomed lover—he became Devdas. In 'Ganga Jamuna' , he brought the Bhojpuri dialect and the angst of class struggle to the mainstream with raw authenticity. Directors molded scripts around him. Writers wrote with him in mind. He wasn't a part of cinema—he was cinema. Shah Rukh Khan : The Fan Who Became the Star Among the many touched by Dilip Kumar's genius was Shah Rukh Khan. A neighbour, a family friend, and an admirer, SRK's reverence for him was heartfelt. 'When I dreamt of becoming an actor, no one believed in me—except my mother. She would say, 'Ye Dilip Kumar banega',' Shah Rukh once shared emotionally on a talk show. After losing his parents, SRK often said he worked hard to become a star so that they could watch him from above. And in every tribute, every mention, he made it clear—Dilip Saab was not just his idol but an emotional connection to his roots and his dreams. Dilip Kumar's Cinema: The Blueprint of Bollywood His filmography is not just a list—it is the DNA of Hindi cinema. A Legacy That Lives On Dilip Kumar didn't just act in films—he shaped Indian cinema. His choices laid the foundation for meaningful storytelling. His emotional depth allowed the audience to find themselves in his roles. His humility gave stardom a new definition. Today, even in his absence, his presence is deeply felt—in every actor who mimics him, in every director who invokes his name, in every classic that continues to find new fans. He was not just the tragedy king. He was the crown jewel of Indian cinema. Dilip Kumar will never fade—because legends don't die, they simply become eternal.
