Disney World fans detail their heartbreak as shocking photos show demolition of beloved landmark

Daily Mail3 days ago
Disney World fans were left in 'tears' after shocking new photos revealed that the demolition of a beloved landmark has begun.
The theme park is in the midst of transforming the Muppets Courtyard at Hollywood Studios into a brand new Monsters Inc.-themed land.
Both the Muppet*Vision 3D ride and the Muppets-themed restaurant PizzeRizzo closed permanently on June 7 to make way for the brand new area, which will feature a suspended rollercoaster.
Now, new images have been shared by popular theme park news outlet Blog Mickey that show a massive construction update.
Disney has officially started knocking down the buildings in the area, and the snaps show the Studio 1 Company Store in Muppets Courtyard completely destroyed.
The building that was once a booming gift shop selling all-things Muppets is now piles of soot and plaster as the entire store has been knocked down, with just a portion of one of the walls still standing.
When Disney first announced its plans to get rid of the Muppets Courtyard it divided fans - some people were excited for the new stuff coming to Hollywood Studios, while others were heartbroken.
And now, the new photos have sparked a slew of negative comments from devastated Muppets' fans.
'I cried when I saw that a few hours ago,' one user replied after the images were shared on X (formerly Twitter).
'Praying they kept some of the Muppets props but it doesn't look hopeful.'
'These pictures truly feel like an open casket or some s**t to me they're PAINFUL to look at,' someone else quipped.
'I thought the image they used to snapshot the source was AI generated. What the f**k do you mean this is the current state of MuppetVision 3D??!?!?!?' another horrified fan added.
'This hurts my heart to see… I used to work at this store and have so many wonderful memories,' read a fourth comment.
A fifth said, 'Man this s**t is brutal to watch.'
Others called it 'vile' and joked that there should have been a 'content warning' on the photos due to how upsetting they are.
Some simply replied by sharing crying emojis or GIFs of people bawling.

The new Monsters Inc. attraction will put riders 'right in the middle of the monster action.'
The area will also have a new show featuring fan-favorite characters Mike and Sulley, a 'Monsters playground,' multiple eateries - including a Japanese restaurant based on Harryhausen's from the film - as well as two stores.
Tons of other changes are currently in the works at Disney; a Cars-themed land is coming to Magic Kingdom, as well as an area inspired by the Disney villains.
In addition, an Encanto river ride, an Indiana Jones attraction, and a Zootopia show are all set to open at Animal Kingdom in the upcoming years.

Breakingviews - Nintendo can flex its pricing power with Switch 2

HONG KONG, Aug 4 (Reuters Breakingviews) - It's hard to imagine a better start for Nintendo's (7974.T), opens new tab new console: the Switch 2, a direct follow-up to its famously successful Switch, sold 5.8 million units during the first fiscal quarter, a record launch for the industry, per Jefferies. The company also moved 5.6 million units of launch title Mario Kart World, according to its earnings update on Friday, nearly one game sold for every console moved despite concerns that the game's unusually high price of $80 would prove too much. That sales ratio is flattered by Nintendo making the game a pack-in with the console—its most expensive ever, at $450—but underscores the willingness of fans to shell out more cash for both. The hardware for the American market is shipped from Vietnam, yet analysts at JPMorgan estimate that the Donald Trump administration's decision to double tariffs on the country to 20% will have little effect on earnings until next year. Little wonder shares jumped almost 6% on Monday. The $110 billion company nonetheless struck a typically conservative tone in its latest guidance, maintaining its sales forecast of just 15 million Switch 2 units for the current financial year even as it noted tariffs had 'no significant impact'. The more meaningful move came in a separate announcement of price rises for models of the original Switch averaging 14%, which did not mention tariffs but warned price adjustments for the sequel console 'may be necessary in the future'. An equivalent 14% hike to the Switch 2's sticker price would cost consumers more than $510 a pop — well over rival Sony's more powerful PlayStation 5, whose disc-free model also retails for $450. What Sony does not have are entries in longstanding series such as Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda and Pokemon, which have driven steady sales of the Kyoto-based games maker's consoles for decades. High review scores for the Switch 2-exclusive Donkey Kong Bananza also bode well for sales in the second half. Moreover, Sony will lack a blockbuster contender for the holiday season thanks to the delay of Grand Theft Auto VI, which had been expected to boost PS5 sales this year. That gives Nintendo an opening to make gains at the margins, yet there is a risk it could overplay its hand if it raises prices too high too quickly. A recession in the U.S., which accounts for 40% of net sales, could also dent earnings. Even so, the bumper sales so far make a solid case for the company to charge gamers more for its wares, and sooner than later. Follow Hudson Lockett on Bluesky, opens new tab and X, opens new tab.

Man caught having three marriages at the same time faces the music as scorned wives slam his triple life

A Florida man avoided jail time after being caught scamming three women by marrying them at the same time in an elaborate scheme. Henry Betsey Jr, 50, was found guilty of bigamy last week after three heartbroken women came forward when they discovered they were all married to the lothario without their knowledge. Henry married his first wife, Tonya, in Duval County in November 2020. They wed at a courthouse in Jacksonville after meeting on Tinder. Two years later, Henry married Brandi at the Manatee County Courthouse after meeting on another dating app for single parents called Stir. That same year, Henry tied the knot for the third time with Michele after meeting on the dating website, Michele confessed to local ABC affiliate, WFTS, that she fell head over heels for the 50-year-old and unwittingly found herself at the Hernando County courthouse just three short weeks after meeting him. But Henry's triple life unraveled when Tonya said she began to search for her husband's name in county court records and found his marriage licenses to two other women. 'I just started county by county, putting in his name. And that's when I came up with the marriage to Michele and the marriage to Brandi,' she recalled to WFTS. As Henry stood in court to receive his sentence of two-years' probation and 100 hours' community service, his new girlfriend, who has not been identified, stood by him from the courthouse audience. Micha Everett shared a video on Instagram claiming that she dated Henry in 2019 and sent love to the three women he scammed into marrying him Henry's wives admitted that they fell into his trap after he sought out 'single, recently divorced women.' Michele admitted that she had 'no idea' Henry had two other wives when she received Tonya's message. The women recalled Henry portrayed himself as a charming man and never led on that he was in other marriages. Tonya said that Henry seemed like 'the perfect person, when in reality he was none of those things.' When his scheme came to light last year, Henry was arrested for bigamy. This week, Judge Daniel Merritt sentenced him to two years' probation and 100 hours of community service. Michele slammed Henry at his hearing, telling the court, 'I am unfortunately still the wife of the defendant. 'I am not here today just as a woman betrayed by someone I once trusted, but I am also speaking on behalf of the other women involved.' Michele told reporters after the sentencing that although she was hoping for jail time, she found solace that Henry was now a convicted felon. She added that she didn't believe he felt remorse for the pain he inflicted on his three wives. The three women he married were single, divorced moms living in different Florida counties. The women decided to remain anonymous as they came forward The women accused Henry of using them for money, with each wife recalling his desperate attempts to get their cash. Michele said Henry was seeking 'the extra perks of marrying a newly single, divorced woman.' Tonya added that all three women were either newly divorced or about to be divorced when they met Henry. Brandi recalled that Henry pushed her to add him onto her bank account the day they got married. The women accused Florida regulations for letting it slip that Henry was married to all three of them at the same time. 'There are no safeguards, and I feel like that's part of where the system failed,' Michele said. Henry pleaded guilty to the felony charge in May, and a judge revoked his bond after he was arrested in Virginia for assault and battery of a family or household member. He attended his sentencing hearing with his new girlfriend, who wasn't identified by his side. Henry declined to comment when approached by reporters outside the courthouse, but issued an apology during the hearing. 'First and foremost, I want to apologize to the ladies and I want to apologize to the court administration and to my family and friends that had to be involved in this. Because ultimately this is something that I didn't wish to be part of,' he said. Michele and Tonya told WFTS that they filed petitions for protection against domestic violence against Henry. Henry and Tonya's marriage ended in divorce after his arrest, while his marriages with Brandi and Michele were filed for annulment. Since his story went viral, another woman has spoken out on social media attesting to Henry's disturbing patterns. Micha Everett shared a video on Instagram claiming that she dated Henry in 2019. She said the first few months of their relationship was 'absolute bliss.' She said Henry was living on his own at the time in Tallahassee, but he went by the name 'Dell Betts.' Micha shared that after two months she could tell that 'someone else came into the picture.' She said he started acting inconsistently and in one instance 'terrified' her by speeding on the highway. Betsey began his probation last Thursday. He was also ordered to stay off social media and is not allowed to contact the three women.
