'Supergirl' & ‘Teen Titans' Writer Ana Nogueira Tapped For 'Wonder Woman'

Geek Culture22-07-2025
The screenwriter behind Supergirl (2026), Ana Nogueira, has been selected to pen the script for Wonder Woman for DC Studios.
Confirmed by James Gunn via Threads, Nogueira appears to be favoured heavily by DC Studios, having already written the upcoming Supergirl movie, which is currently in post-production, as well as working on the live-action Teen Titans movie that is still being developed. Though Gunn has denied that the Wonder Woman film will be fast-tracked, he has affirmed that it is indeed a priority amongst the DC Universe's upcoming slate of projects. Ana Nogueira
Nogueira first began her career as an actor, notably starring in The Vampire Diaries (2016) and Hightown (2020-2024), later becoming a playwright, with Empathitrax in 2016, followed by Which Way to the Stage in 2022. She also expanded to screenwriting, with We Win (2018) as her first writing credit. Supergirl, directed by Craig Gillespie (Cruella), will be her first produced screenplay, and it will be based on the graphic novel series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King.
Wonder Woman is a major character in DC Comics, forming the Trinity alongside Superman and Batman. The Wonder Woman film will certainly help lay the groundwork for the formation of the Trinity in Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Universe, given that Gunn's Superman (2025) has already taken flight to resounding critical and audience reception.
Fans are already excited to see the future of the DC Universe, coming off the success of Superman , carried on the strong shoulders of the Man of Steel. The film also introduced, in a brief cameo, Milly Alcock's Supergirl, who will be making a proper debut when her titular film releases on 26 June 2026. With Supergirl's impactful appearance in Superman , fans are already looking forward to a radiant tomorrow for the DC Universe, reinforced by the Woman of Tomorrow. Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Fans are now even looking further ahead to other projects in the DC Universe, with some beginning to clamour for Wonder Woman's film appearance. Gal Gadot ( Death on the Nile ) previously portrayed the character in the previous iteration of the DC Universe, the now-defunct DCEU. Appearing first in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), before receiving commercial success with 2017's Wonder Woman , Gadot received support for her role as Wonder Woman, though fans and critics alike have panned her acting at times for its stiffness. The role will be recast for the new DC Universe, likely beginning with the Wonder Woman film.
This may go hand in hand with the Wonder Woman-centric television series, Paradise Island , that DC Studios has been working on for some time. The show has been described to be a prequel series, based around Wonder Woman's home of Themyscira, that will stylistically echo Game of Thrones . Though the production status of the show is currently unclear, it does appear that the future for Wonder Woman is bright at DC Studios.

First Infinity Stone Debuts In Magic: The Gathering Marvel's Spider-Man Crossover Set

It was inevitable. Since the first Marvel-themed Magic: The Gathering card landed in the franchise, it was certain that the Infinity Stones would eventually make their appearance. After all, cards like Fist of Suns and a variant art of Arcane Signet, each alluding to the Infinity Gauntlet, have been teased in Magic: The Gathering. For years, fans speculated and yearned for a collision of two of the world's most expansive pop culture universes: Marvel and Magic. The power of the cosmos will present itself at the humble street level as the upcoming Marvel's Spiderman Universes Beyond Magic: The Gathering set in the form of the Soul Stone. The key aspect of the extended art Soul Stone card is the foiling treatment, which we presume is the maximum rarity the card can achieve. We last saw a similar treatment in the One Ring from the Lord of the Rings Universes Beyond set. Devoid of any text, players will have to remember the card's ability to bring back creatures from the graveyard directly onto the battlefield after paying (or cheating) the hefty card cost. One can safely assume that the Soul Stone will not be the first as players will be looking to assemble the rest of the Infinity Gems. The Soul Stone is likely the starting points for a broader phased release in which the six Infinity Stones will be distributed across various future Marvel Magic: The Gathering sets. If we're to make an educated guess, once players have collected all six stones, and placing it within the Gauntlet, unlocking a special win condition would be the most natural outcome. The only thing left then would be to do this – Gerald currently straddles between his love of video games and board gaming. 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' Revival Reveals New Lead Character Details

Hulu's Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot has officially unveiled the name of its new slayer: Nova. Earlier this year, Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum Sarah Michelle Gellar confirmed that Ryan Kiera Armstrong ( Star Wars: Skeleton Crew ) would step into the lead role for the reboot, with Gellar herself returning in a recurring capacity. At the time, Armstrong's character name was being kept under wraps, but Deadline now reports that she will portray Nova, a fitting choice given the name means 'new' in Latin. Ryan Kiera Armstrong In additional casting news, young actor Kingston Vernes ( So Cold the River ) has been tapped to play Carson, a charismatic Junior Olympian and popular student who will become the object of Nova's affection. Unlike previous one-off casting announcements, Vernes is reportedly set to appear in a recurring role. More details also emerged this week about the reboot's core ensemble, seemingly forming the new 'Scooby Gang', a callback to the original series. The confirmed cast currently includes Sarah Bock ( Severance ) as Gracie, Nova's best friend, Ava Jean ( Law & Order: SVU ) as Larkin, Faly Rakotohavana ( Secret Society of Second-Born Royals ) as Hugo, another close friend who harbours a crush on Nova, Daniel di Tomasso ( Major Crimes ) as Abe, and Jack Cutmore-Scott ( Frasier ) as the enigmatic Mr. Burke, a new school librarian reminiscent of Rupert Giles from the original series. The original Scooby Gang in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997) According to reports, a writer's room has been assembled, and if Hulu gives the green light following the pilot, full production on season one is expected to begin in March 2026. As of now, no other legacy characters beyond Buffy herself have been confirmed to return. However, Gellar, who is also serving as an executive producer on the project, has expressed interest in bringing back more fan-favourite faces. One such possibility is Charisma Carpenter ( The Expendables ), who played Cordelia Chase in the original series and its spin-off Angel . Carpenter recently told IGN she would be open to reprising her role, especially after what she described as an 'unjust' send-off for her character. ‘Superman' Soars Past 'Man of Steel' US Box Office, Is First DC Film To Hit US$300 Million Domestically In Years

In another major victory for DC Studios, James Gunn's Superman has reached new heights of success after surpassing US$500 million at the global box office. The latest comic book adventure is now the first DC film to cross the domestic tally of US$300 million in three years, with The Batman grossing US$369.2 million at the end of its run. Notably, the milestone puts it ahead of Zack Snyder's Man of Steel , which accumulated US$291 million in 2013, not adjusted for inflation. It should be noted that the overtaking only applies to the domestic market, as the latter stands at US$670.1 million worldwide. The Henry Cavill-starring pic was also the last solo outing for the Last Son of Krypton, who returned to the big screen in the 2016 sequel Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice . If all goes well, Superman will soon overtake its domestic haul of US$330.4 million as well. Now in its fourth weekend, Junn's film joins Warner Bros.' A Minecraft Movie , Disney's live-action Lilo & Stitch , and Universal's Jurassic World Rebirth in the US$300 million club, becoming only the fourth title of 2025 to do so. The road ahead may not be as smooth-sailing, however, as it continues to face competition from F1: The Movie , which has veered past US$500 million globally, and of course, Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps . By all accounts, both superhero tentpoles are a hit among audiences and critics alike, each scoring an A on CinemaScore. On Rotten Tomatoes, Marvel's latest is currently in the lead with 86 per cent and 91 per cent from critics and audiences, respectively, versus 83 per cent and 91 per cent for Superman . Comic book enthusiasts are the real winners, either way. Superman has certainly borne fruit for DC Studios, living up to sky-high expectations as the launchpad to Chapter One of the rebooted cinematic universe. In it, David Corenswet ( Pearl ) takes on the role of the titular character, with Rachel Brosnahan ( The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel ) portraying The Daily Planet journalist and Superman's love interest, Lois Lane. Meanwhile, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is directed by WandaVision 's Matt Shakman and serves as the 37th title in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It stars Pedro Pascal ( The Last of Us ) as Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby ( The Crown ) as Sue Storm / Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach ( The Bear ) as Ben Grimm / The Thing, and Joseph Quinn ( Stranger Things 4 ) as Johnny Storm / Human Torch, eschewing their origin stories for a new adventure in the retro-futuristic setting of an alternate universe known as Earth-828.
