Mechanic father-of-two, 27, was crushed to death while working on car at home, inquest heard
Daniel Burton, 27, was discovered unresponsive and trapped under the Audi A3, at his partner's home in Skewen, Neath Port Talbot, on January 22, an inquest has heard.
Despite the efforts of emergency services, Mr Burton was pronounced dead at the scene, WalesOnline reported.
The inquest heard how the keen mechanic had that day attended college where he was working towards an MOT qualification, before enjoying time with his partner and children at Penlan Leisure Centre.
When they returned home, Mr Burton was said to be keen to fit a part that had been delivered for his car despite it being dark outside.
Passersby told Guildhall court in Swansea that they had seen the vehicle - which was parked on a sloped street - propped up on the driver's side, while the rear wheels had been removed. They had seen Mr Burton lying on his back underneath the car.
One commented she had thought the car looked 'unsafe' but did not want to intervene.
At around 6.30pm, a local resident stopped to ask the mechanic if he had spotted her recently-stolen car in the nearby streets - but she received no response from him.
She ran off to find help and a neighbour arrived with a jack in an attempt to lift the car off Mr Burton. They also informed his partner as to what had happened.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene, but were unable to save the father-of-two and he was pronounced dead at 6.53pm.
A police investigation found that one of the axle stands under the car was lying on its side, while a postmortem determined he had died from 'crush asphyxiation'.
The coroner recorded a verdict of accidental death.
Tributes posted at the time of the tragedy described Mr Burton as a 'beloved son', 'cherished partner' and 'devoted father', adding he would be 'greatly missed by all his family and many friends'.
He was 'passionate' about football and had played for Neath Town, Aberavon Greenstars and more recently, Cilfrew Rovers.
A fundraising appeal, organised by local sports clubs that Mr Burton was involved with, raised more than £3,000 for his grieving family.
Organisers said: 'Dan was an amazing person, he would light up every room he entered and he will be sorely missed by so many.
'He was a down to earth person, a great friend, a great father and will be a tremendous loss to everyone that knew him.'

Watch: Shocking video reveals moment Aberdeen car set ablaze on residential street
Shocking video footage has revealed the moment a car was deliberately set on fire in Aberdeen. New CCTV footage, which has been circulating online, shows the moment the car bursts into flames on Rousay Drive in Woodend. The footage appears to show a substance being thrown over the vehicle before it is set alight. The incident happened yesterday at 8pm, which triggered a large emergency services response. The fire service sent one appliance from North Anderson Drive, which had crews battling the blaze for more than 45 minutes. Now, a new video has shown the exact moment the vehicle was deliberately set ablaze. The masked culprit dressed in all black and riding a bike, is shown to move towards a blue car and douse it in flammable liquid before setting it alight. Officers say enquiries into the incident are ongoing. A police spokesperson said: 'Around 8.25pm on Wednesday August 20, officers received a report of a vehicle on fire on Rousay Drive, Aberdeen. 'The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.' The incident on Rousay Drive is one of several incidents recorded in Aberdeen in the past few months. A 'suspicious' fire was recorded on Manor Avenue last month on Monday July 7. The incident left a silver Audi 'completely destroyed'. A Garthdee woman was also left fearing for her safety a week later. Her vehicle was deliberately set ablaze on Morrison Road. In February, a grey Range Rover, believed to have been stolen from Cults, was set ablaze on the A92.

Partner of Tony Ferns tells Glasgow High Court murder trial
Angela McCann became emotional as she recalled Tony Ferns shouting he had been "stabbed" moments after he had dropped her off at home. The 36-year-old was today giving evidence at the High Court in Glasgow. Raymond Platt, 56, Craig Colquhoun, 39, Robert Park, 69, Joseph McCulloch, 50, are on trial accused of killing the tiler in Crebar Street, Thornliebank, East Renfrewshire on April 18 2019. They deny the murder charge. Angela told how they had been a couple of three years before he passed away. Tony lived with his mum Phyllis, 67, in Thornliebank, but would sometimes stay with his partner at her home nearby. Angela had been working at a local One-O-One shop on the night of the alleged attack, but at a different branch from usual. The couple's "routine" would be for Tony to pick her up in his Audi at the end of a shift. CCTV played in court showed Angela being collected that evening. The witness told how Tony then dropped her at home after parking in his usual spot outside. The mum then left the car to get her sister, who had been babysitting her children at Angela's house. Tony was due to drive the sibling home. Angela then spotted a male at her partner's motor. She was not concerned as "Tony knew everybody" and believed it was likely a friend. But, then she heard the car suddenly "screech" and the vehicle head towards Phyllis's home nearby where it stopped. Angela said she got "a fright". She could not "comprehend" what had happened. She remembered shouting and Tony replying: "Angie, I have been stabbed." Angela immediately ran up to a stricken Tony, who, by this time, was at his mum's door. A sobbing Angela told jurors: "He collapsed in my arms. I just held him in my arms." An urgent 999 call was made. Angela said she later phoned again as mercy crews "were taking so long". Prosecutor Alex Prentice KC asked her: "Did Tony remain responsive?" She replied: "You could see that the life was draining from him." Tony never recovered. Angela was asked by police at the time if she could identify the male at Tony's car that night. An e-fit photo was generated and this was shown to jurors. But, Angela said her "focus" had more been on Tony than this other individual. Park's KC Tony Graham later questioned the witness. He said: "I am about to put something to you - I am not suggesting there is any truth - but if someone had believed that you had set Tony up that night, would that be ridiculous?" Angela said: "Yes." The court heard previously how Tony apparently held a "grudge" towards Park. He was said to have believed Park - known as Rab - was in some way responsible for a car accident which left his disabled brother Mark badly hurt. READ MORE ON THIS TRIAL: Mum gives evidence in Tony Fearns murder trial in Glasgow High Court Angela was asked about "incidents" she was aware of involving the pair. This included one where Tony had told her that he had punched Park although she did not know the date. She also said her partner had been "paranoid" about a car that he had been seen in his street driving "very slow". McCulloch was allegedly in it with the vehicle described by Tony as being "full". The murder charge states Tony was repeatedly stabbed on the body with a knife or similar item. The trial, before judge Lord Fairley, continues. Meanwhile, jurors later heard how Tony, 33, died from a "stab wound of the heart". He would have been able to carry out "some purposeful activity" - such as drive his car briefly - after being struck. However, the court was told Tony would have "rapidly succumb" to internal blood as result. Pathologist Gemma Kemp had carried out a post-mortem on the body. Prosecutor Mr Prentice asked her about the realistic chance of Tony having been able to survive after what happened adding: "Despite the best efforts of others, this was really a lost cause?" The witness agreed. The pathologist also told how Tony had suffered another stab wound on his abdomen. Dr Kemp said the weapon used to inflict the fatal blow was "most likely a knife" and required a "severe" level of force.
