George North makes feelings clear on Shaun Edwards as brutal 'Wall of Shame' remark revealed
The former Wales wing is now out in Provence playing Pro D2 rugby, but has taken a look back on his international career

Wales legend George North has revealed his love for former coach Shaun Edwards — describing him as the best he's ever worked under — and revealed the unique and ruthless motivational tactics the ex-defence guru used to get the best out of his players.
Now playing in France with second-tier side Provence, North was interviewed by former international team-mate Dan Biggar as part of a candid catch-up on life after Welsh rugby. And while North touched on his love for life in France and the challenges of adapting to a new rugby culture, it was his memories of working under Edwards with Wales that stand front and centre in his mind.
North, who earned 121 caps for Wales and four for the British and Irish Lions, recalled Edwards' notorious 'Wall of Shame' – a blunt post-match review pinned up for all to see. Sign up to Inside Welsh rugby on Substack for the exclusive five-week tour diary from Japan and Australia.
'The nicest one I ever had was just empty, 'No comment',' North smiled, during the interview on The Rugby Pod. 'That only happened a couple of times!'
Recalling one stinging piece of feedback from Edwards, he laughed: 'I had one I remember. It said, 'Do you know what you're doing? Do you listen?' I'd not done what he wanted, or I'd not listened!'
Biggar chipped in with his own memory after one particular match, adding: 'We had come down and next to your name was 'Not international standard – sort it!''

But behind the brutal honesty was a coach who, North said, cared deeply and commanded total respect.
'The best coach I've been under is Shaun Edwards. Hands down,' North said. 'If I said it was love and holding my hand, I'd be lying. He got the best out of me.'
North described Edwards as 'obsessed' with preparation and detail — especially in defence — but praised his humility in owning mistakes when things went wrong.
'Each week he'd have extras based on who we were playing – like at Murrayfield, he was big on dead balls, so we'd spend all week chasing hundreds of them.
"Little things like that. The thing I think is incredible about Shaun - everyone at this level is accountable - but he would be the first to put his hand up and say 'I didn't prepare you right'.
"He would give you all the tools, ride you like a banshee to be the best you could be, but if they brought something to the table you weren't prepared for he would be the first to put his hand up. That's something I really admired about Shaun."

North also recalled the relentless energy and volume Edwards brought to training, especially for back-three players, whom he held to the highest standards.
'He was unreal. His defensive plan was black and white – you had your role and by God, he held you to it.
'If I was on the other side of the pitch and it wasn't even my fault, he'd still be shouting at me! I can still hear him now shouting, 'Get up, you're never injured!''
Despite the hard edge, North said Edwards always stayed in touch and was 'one of the nicest blokes', adding: 'He still sends me a message.'
North also spoke about his move to Provence, where he has settled into life in the south of France with his wife Becky and their two young sons.
'The lifestyle is brilliant,' he said. 'The boys want to be outside all the time — on their bikes, in the skate parks, the swimming pool. It's amazing for that.'
He admitted adapting to French rugby has taken time, going from a highly structured environment in Wales to a more free-flowing, unpredictable style.
'Some of it was next level, other bits were nuts,' he said. 'But I found a bit of a groove by the end of the season.'
Reflecting on his career's toughest moments, North pointed to injuries that robbed him of potential Lions appearances in 2017 and 2021.
'2017 Lions was tough," he said about the hamstring injury which saw him flown home prematurely after two Tests. "That's the only place you want to be and I just didn't get a chance. My hamstring ripped and it took a fair while to absorb that.
"Between 2013 and 2015 I just wasn't hissing, just getting marked. That was when social media kicked in and everyone was telling everyone everything. I found that really tough. It wasn't through not trying - it was maybe over-trying.
"But injuries are the worst. In 2021 I felt I was playing really good rugby at that time and the Lions tour to South Africa (was coming up) and I ruptured my ACL.
"I thought I had a fair crack of the whip to be on that tour so that sits with me.
"The injuries, the ACL, the injury with the Lions in 2021, not that I would have been picked, I should ask Gats (Warren Gatland). But they are the ones I found hard because there's nothing you can do about it.

"With form or social media, you can do something about it - but injuries is the pits for me."

The young British heavyweight is destined for greatness in the world of boxing, but has recently detailed how he had to fall back in love with the sport after a rough patch Moses Itauma has revealed coach Ben Davison helped him fully restore his love for the sport of boxing. The British heavyweight star is set for his toughest fight yet on Saturday night against veteran Dillian Whyte. The 20-year-old has been on a tear as of late and remains unbeaten inside the squared-circle. After announcing himself on the world stage with a destructive win over Mariusz Wach, Itauma followed it up with back-to-back knockout wins over Demsey McKean and Mike Balogun. That said, it was not all plain sailing for Itauma - who is widely regarded as one of the hottest prospects in boxing's heaviest division. Two years ago, when he made his highly-anticipated debut against Marcel Bode, the young star got off to a flying start and began knocking out people for fun. But the Chatham brawler - who is set to have his fifth fight under the legendary Davison - admitted how he started to 'hate' the sport barely a year after his debut. 'Being in the ring (sparring) with all these heavyweights Daniel Dubois, Joe Joyce, Tyson Fury, Lawrence Okolie, I know that there are levels to boxing and I just felt like I was unable to learn any more,' Itauma said. The Brit admits that, under the guidance of Davison, he found a new side to the sport. 'I don't want to disrespect any of the coaches I tried or did work with. I love and respect them, but with Ben, he taught me a different side to boxing," he continued. 'He taught me there is more to boxing than punch, punch, get punched, punch back, punch, punch, punch. There is actually a whole chess game to this.' The 20-year-old has steamrolled through every opponent that has been put in front of him and has not gone past the second round since his fourth outing. With 10 of his 12 wins coming by way of knockout, he was once tipped to surpass Mike Tyson's record of becoming the youngest heavyweight champion. Whilst that did not come to fruition, Itauma is a champion in the making. But in order to become the best version of himself, he needs to have the right support and the right team. In March 2024, Itauma split from old trainer Alan Smith, despite scoring a brutal victory over Dan Garber not long before. Over the years, he has tried several different trainers and coaches, but never really seemed to click with anyone - until Davison. Davison, Fury's former coach, helps train several high-level boxers, including Anthony Joshua, Fabio Wardley, Leigh Wood, Shabaz Masoud and Pat McCormack. Opening up on the famous boxing coach, Itauma explained: 'What I mean with falling out of love with boxing is, it was kind of like I felt like I reached a barrier and I was unable to break it. 'That is why I went around searching for a new trainer to get something new. I tried out a lot of coaches and Ben Davison was actually the last one I tried. If I'll be honest, when I went to Ben, I was like he has too many stars in the gym, he won't really have time for me, he won't give me time I need but my brother was like there is no harm in trying Ben Davison. 'And I went there and as I walked through the doors, there is a glass window on the door where you can see inside the gym and Ben has got all my fights up. He is writing in his notepad and he was like, 'you do this, I don't know if you're aware of it, now we need to make you aware of this and do this, this and this,' and I was like, 'rah, none of the other coaches did that.' 'And it was only when I started sparring, he would say, 'if I do this, he will do this and you can capitalise,' and I would go and do it, it would pay off and I'd be like what! Obviously we just clicked from there but the most impressive thing is how you have so many stars in the gym but each individual fighter gets the necessary time.' Conor Coady confident Wrexham can cope with Championship spotlight
Wrexham marked their return to the level after a 43-year absence at Southampton on Saturday when a late Saints double condemned them to a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat. Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were not present on the south coast to see Wrexham suffer, perhaps waiting until West Brom's visit to the SToK Racecourse on Saturday for their first taste of Championship action. There has been inordinate external noise around Wrexham due to their celebrity owners and three successive promotions taking them from the National League to the Championship in record time, but summer addition Coady insists Phil Parkinson's squad can handle the fierce spotlight. 'We're going to cope with it,' said Coady, the 32-year-old England international who was used to Premier League football at Wolves, Everton and Leicester. 'We know what we are. We know how we're going to play and we're here to upset and disrupt a few teams in this division. 'We'll keep on trying to do that. We've shown we can play. We'll keep building, we'll keep improving. 'We have to improve, we have to get better. That's the biggest thing.' Coady, one of seven players who made their Wrexham debuts at Southampton after heavy summer investment from Reynolds and McElhenney, admits to being shocked by huge interest in the Welsh club. The 32-year-old watched the friendly against Groningen in the Netherlands last week when 'the people there for Wrexham was unbelievable' and Ollie Palmer – a star of the 'Welcome to Wrexham' documentary series – 'got mobbed'. Coady said: 'It's amazing to see where this club has gone. I have so much respect for what this club has done since the National League to get to this point. 'But we're at a point now where we don't just enjoy being here. We want to improve and mix ourselves with teams like this (Southampton). 'Maybe go higher, but to do that we have to make sure we're dominant at this level and get to that level as quick as we can. 'What we've got to do is take it one game at a time, but let's enjoy the ride. 'Let's not take anything away from it. Southampton were in the Premier League last season, Wrexham were in League One. 'So we're in a position now where we're fighting with these teams, showing we can play, and showing we've got an idea.' Wrexham play Championship rivals Hull at home in the first round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.
