Delhi: Uttarakhand CM inaugurates outlet of 'House of Himalayas', aims to give global recognition to local products
This outlet will become a powerful medium to present the traditional heritage and organic products of Uttarakhand in an organised form in the national capital. Through this, not only will the rich folk culture of the state be brought to the country, but local products will also get new markets.
The Chief Minister said that this initiative is the result of the vision of the state government, which aims to give global recognition to the natural and handmade goods produced in the mountainous regions. 'This step will strengthen the rural economy and also provide new opportunities to local artisans and craftsmen,' the CM said.
Keeping in mind the Chardham Yatra, the state government has set up attractive floor-standing units and retail carts at more than 13 prominent places to promote the sale of local products at pilgrimage and tourist places like Naini Saini Airport, Pantnagar Airport, Dehradun Helipad, GMVN Shri Kedarnath, Badrinath, Harshil, Guptkashi, Kaudiyala, Mussoorie, Parmarth Niketan (Rishikesh), Snow Crest (Badrinath), ATI (Nainital) and Centria Mall.
These retail carts are becoming the centre of attraction for devotees and tourists. Apart from this, the process of setting up retail carts is also in progress at prestigious institutions like Marriott Mussoorie, Taj Dehradun, FRI and LBSNAA and Delhi Haat in the national capital. This initiative is not only giving national and international recognition to local products, but is also strongly presenting the rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship of Uttarakhand.
Secretary Rural Development Radhika Jha said that the 'House of Himalayas' brand has created a special identity based on its quality in a short time.
To promote the cultural and traditional identity of Uttarakhand and connect high-end tourists with local products, strategic partnerships have been made with reputed hotels like Taj (Rishikesh, Ramnagar), Hyatt Centric, Hyatt Regency (Dehradun), Marriott (Ramnagar), Westin (Narendranagar) and JP Group (Mussoorie). Under this initiative, retail carts of 'House of Himalayas' have been set up in various major hotels of the state, which are providing direct availability of special handmade and organic products of Uttarakhand to the tourists.
This step is not only encouraging local producers and artisans towards economic empowerment, but is also an important initiative towards sustainable tourism and self-reliant Uttarakhand.
The concept of the 'House of Himalayas' brand was first presented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Global Investors Summit 2023. Under this brand, special products of Uttarakhand like Buransh Sharbat, wild honey, mountain pulses, traditional spices, handmade clothes and other organic materials will now be able to reach the major cities of the country in a systematic form. Uttarakhand to set crowd management system at Kainchi Dham
Nainital: In a significant move to improve the management of surging crowds at the revered Kainchi Dham of Baba Neem Karoli, the Uttarakhand administration is working on a comprehensive crowd control system, complete with a fixed visitor capacity and online registration facilities. Every year, lakhs of devotees flock to the Dham, leading to overcrowding not only within the temple complex but also in the surrounding areas. Responding to this growing challenge, the government has initiated a carrying capacity survey to assess the actual visitor limit of the site and its adjoining zones. The six-month-long survey will involve a meticulous analysis of the temple premises, available tourist facilities, traffic movement, accommodation options, and infrastructural readiness. Tourism Secretary Dhiraj Garbyal stated that the survey would also determine how many pilgrims visit solely for Kainchi Dham and how many extend their journey to other prominent destinations like Almora, Pithoragarh, and Bageshwar. As part of the initiative, real-time monitoring systems have been deployed, with CCTV installed along key routes and within the temple area. These will help officials track the movement of both pilgrims and vehicles, aiding swift response and better control during peak periods. In addition, data is being compiled from local guest houses, homestays, and parking facilities to measure the pressure on available infrastructure. The ultimate goal is to build a sustainable system that ensures safety, comfort, and spiritual serenity for visitors. The Tourism Secretary revealed that an online registration system, similar to that used for the Chardham Yatra, is under consideration. This would allow devotees to book darshan slots in advance, helping the administration to regulate the influx and provide a more streamlined experience. 'This will not only enhance devotees' experience but also allow quicker action in emergencies,' Garbyal added. Post-monsoon, the administration will also kick off an expansion of tourist amenities, including road upgrades, expanded parking, increased lodging capacity, and improved sanitation. Authorities believe that with proper assessment and structured planning, Kainchi Dham can offer a more peaceful and organised pilgrimage experience. 'Our team has already started this. It will take around six months. For counting, we have also installed CCTVs,' Garbyal said.

Taking a tough stand on illegal conversion, the Uttarakhand State Cabinet has approved the Uttarakhand Freedom of Religion (Amendment) Bill on Wednesday, under which strong provisions have been added for stringent penalties on illegal conversion, a ban on propaganda through digital media and protection of victims. On this occasion, he launched the AI chatbot 'Nigam Sarathi' and also unveiled the document of Green Policy. The Chief Minister planted a Rudraksha sapling under the name of Ek Ped Maa Naam, which was the one lakhth sapling planted this year under the Municipal Corporation area of Dehradun under the massive plantation campaign run by the government. Working on the ‘Hill to Hi-Tech' mantra to make Uttarakhand a technologically advanced state: CM Dhami
Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday launched several information and communications technology (ICT)-enabled services. These included the Digital Uttarakhand app, 66 websites built on the Secure, Scalable, and Sugamya (S3Waas) platform, a GIS-based web application for real-time tracking of garbage collection vehicles in urban areas, AI innovation in the 1905 CM Helpline for enhanced citizen service, and a web-based application for encroachment monitoring. CM's announcements A next-generation Data Centre will be established in Uttarakhand to meet future challenges, with a dedicated disaster recovery mechanism. An 'AI Mission' will soon be launched in the state to address future challenges, which will be developed as a 'Centre of Excellence.' Taking forward the concept of Good Governance, a next-generation Remote Sensing and Drone Application Centre will be developed in the state. The government will work towards establishing a dedicated IT cadre in the state. CM Dhami said that Uttarakhand, along with being a beautiful hill state, should also move forward as a technologically advanced state. The GIS-based web app will provide real-time monitoring of garbage collection vehicles in urban areas. For preventing encroachment, citizens will be able to upload photos or videos of encroachments through a web-based app, on which the concerned department will promptly investigate and take necessary action. The entire process will be trackable online. He further said that the 1905 CM Helpline is an important medium of communication between citizens and the government. AI-based features in this service will allow for auto-categorisation of complaints, faster resolution, and improved follow-up monitoring. The chief minister highlighted that special priority is being given to initiatives like online education, e-health services, and digitisation of land records. Through the e-District portal and CM Dashboard, efforts are being made to provide multiple government services to citizens from the comfort of their homes. Smart classrooms and e-learning platforms are being expanded for students, while telemedicine and e-Sanjeevani services are bringing specialist doctors' advice to citizens in remote areas. The Apni Sarkar portal is providing 886 services online, and nearly 95% of villages in the state now have telecommunication connectivity.
