Neon Taking North American Rights To Natalie Portman Cannes Animation ‘Arco'

Yahoo24-05-2025
EXCLUSIVE: Neon is closing up a North America deal for rights to Natalie Portman-voiced animation Arco, which recently launched at the Cannes Film Festival.
French director Ugo Bienvenu's animated feature, which has been described as 'France's answer to Studio Ghibli', is about a boy who uses rainbows to travel through time and his adventures as he gets stuck in the wrong era. There's chatter the movie could feature in the awards race.

Oscar winner Portman is also producing with Sophie Mas under their joint Paris and New York banner MountainA with Félix de Givry at Paris-based Remembers. The movie debuted as a special screening in Cannes.
It's another win for Neon, which has been voracious once again at Cannes, also acquiring The Secret Agent, It Was Just An Accident and Sirat, in addition to Sentimental Value, which they already had.
Taking its cue from the fantasy premise that rainbows are time machines, the movie revolves around 10 year old rainbow-child Arco, who lives in the distant future, 2932. His maiden journey in his multi-colored suit does not go to plan. He loses control and veers off course to land in a near future, 2075, where Iris, a girl the same age as Arco, witnesses his fall and then makes it her mission to get him home.
Arco is the first feature for Bienvenu after short films Maman and L'entretien and comic books. His multi-awarded best seller System Preference has been translated in over 10 languages and was released by Penguin in the US, England, and Canada at the end of 2023.
Bienvenu, who studied and now teaches at France's famed Gobelins animation school in Paris, has built his production team from talent he trained and nurtured there.
Portman will be among the English-language voice cast. The French language voice cast will feature Alma Jodorowsky (Blue Is The Warmest Colour), Swann Arlaud (Anatomy of a Fall), Vincent Macaigne (C'est La Vie, Suspended Time) and Louis Garrel (Little Women, The Dreamers) and rapper Oxmo Puccino.
Exec producers are Jamil Shamasdin, alongside Bill Way and Elliott Whitton for Fit Via Vi, and Douglas Choi and Martina Bassenger for Sons of Rigor.
Arco marks the first feature animation for Portman and Mas' MountainA since its launch in 2020. The company made its festival debut at Cannes 2023 with Todd Haynes' May December.
Goodfellas and CAA Media Finance are repping rights.

"Os Encantados" by Romane Iskaria

Self portrait Her work is also rooted in a personal connection: the one she has maintained since adolescence with the region of Paraíba, her father's homeland. This emotional and familial bond nourishes an artistic and spiritual quest, giving rise to "Os Encantados", a project at the crossroads of photography, oral storytelling, and historical-anthropological analysis. This work sheds light on the histories, struggles, and spiritualities of the Jurema communities, while challenging dominant narratives about Brazilian identity. It celebrates a living heritage and tribute to those who inhabit, defend, and dream this land, a world both enchanted and deeply grounded in reality." About the artist Romane Iskaria is a French photographer and artist working in Brussels, Belgium (1997). She graduated with a Master's degree in photography from ENSAV La Cambre in 2022 and a DNA (National Diploma in Plastic Arts) from INSEAAM Beaux Arts in Marseille in 2018. She also completed an exchange at the U-LAVAL Visual Arts school in Quebec, Canada. The photographer highlights the injustices and inequalities of invisible communities with a documentary and fictional approach. Her images, specific to 'Care', tell a story and allow her subjects to become aware of their painful stories. The artist uses photography and the field of video, but also textiles, sound, and sculpture to create immersive installations. She tells stories that take the form of a long-term investigation across several territories. Romane replays specific rituals and stories that also transcend borders, addressing questions around migration and exile. The photographer creates plastic forms allowing her to subvert the codes of documentary. Romane is laureate of TIFF 2024 Emerging Belgian Photography, by FOMU Fotomuseum Antwerpen and the european platform FUTURES Photography.

‘South Park' Lets Loose With A Trump, Satan & JD Vance Ménage À Trois, ICE Raiding Heaven & Kristi Noem Shooting Dogs

SPOILER ALERT: This article contains details of tonight's episode 'Got a Nut' — like, a lot of details. With a nod — a head butt, really — to Donald Trump and masked ICE abductions of undocumented immigrants and U.S. citizens, South Park was very relevant tonight. More from Deadline 'Well, I Finally Made It': JD Vance Responds To His Blistering 'South Park' Debut 'South Park' Trolls Donald Trump's DHS Ahead Of ICE Barbie Episode: 'Wait, So We ARE Relevant?' Ramsey Naito To Remain Paramount Animation Head; Skydance Animation Stays Solo Post-Merger Under John Lasseter & Holly Edwards - The Dish Just ask Vice President JD Vance and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. 'A few years ago I had to put my puppy down by shooting it in the face, because sometimes doing what's important means doing what's hard,' the animated Noem says in the second episode of the 27th season of Trey Parker and Matt Stone's animated satire. (Throughout the episode Noem, who confessed to putting her own dog down, shoots multiple puppies on the streets, in heaven and while having a bath.) RELATED: But back to the video. The bulletproof vest-wearing Noem is addressing ICE agent recruits by video, including laid off South Park teacher Mr. Mackey. The perpetually camera-ready former Governor of South Dakota ends her video to the newbies by promising that 'together we will make sure everyone is in this country legally.' Then ICE goes after Dora the Explorer. Then, raising the stakes, and with Noem declaring 'remember, only detain the Brown ones, if it's Brown it goes down,' they raid Heaven too. Seriously. There is also Cartman as right-wing provocateur Charlie Kirk doing his podcast on the toilet while getting busy. Oh yeah, VP Vance made his South Park debut Wednesday. He's stylized as a sycophantic Tattoo from the original run of Fantasy Island to Trump's white-suited Mr. Roarke. It was both the best and worst Hervé Villechaize impersonation you'll ever get in up-to-the-minute primetime. In that, there was more on POTUS' love affair with an increasingly red-faced Satan — with the chubby cheeked Veep offering a small tribute to Sean 'Diddy' Combs via a promise of a massage of sorts to the fallen angel. 'Would you like me to apply the baby oil to Satan's assh*le, boss?' inquires Vance about a potential MAGA ménage à trois. After that, the best efforts of big screen Superman's best four-legged friend Krypto to save newly appointed DHS boss Mackey from getting pulled in bed with Trump and Satan at Mar-A-Lago ends badly. Eager to keep her job and her cred, ICE Barbie Noem shoots another dog dead — and promptly loses her allegedly surgically enhanced face. So, let's just say, two weeks after the delayed (and ratings surging) Season 27 premiere offered the most mocking and effective kick to Trump's 'tiny teeny' since the increasingly authoritarian former Celebrity Apprentice host returned to the White House, tonight's 'Got a Nut' episode on the now David Ellison-owned Comedy Central again went for the the groin as well as the jugular. After the delayed July 23 episode 'Sermon on the Mount' depicted a less than well-endowed Trump in bed with a less than satisfied Lord of Hell and a naked, live-action president in the desert in a pseudo-PSA (one of many stabs at Paramount and its recent $16 million knee bend to POTUS) Trump was reportedly 'seething' and the Executive Branch went ballistic. This show hasn't been relevant for over 20 years and is hanging on by a thread with uninspired ideas in a desperate attempt for attention,' the White House Taylor Rogers exclaimed. 'President Trump has delivered on more promises in just six months than any other president in our country's history – and no fourth-rate show can derail President Trump's hot streak.' This week, after ICE tried to be witty and lift an advance image from tonight's episode for its X feed, South Park hit back: 'Wait, so we ARE relevant?' On Tuesday they also added a certain hashtag as a kicker. Tonight's episode confirmed it more than ever: Yes, indeed you are!
