Expansion of Shirdi Airport be completed before upcoming Kumbh Mela: Maha CM
He chaired the meeting to review the ongoing works of Shirdi airport and the Greenfield airport at Purandar in Pune district.
Taking a detailed review of the expansion and renovation work of Shirdi Airport, Chief Minister Fadnavis said: "The work of a new air traffic control building, integrated cargo building and terminal building at the airport in Shirdi is proposed. These works must be completed before the start of the upcoming Kumbh Mela. However, these works must be expedited and completed on time. If necessary, additional manpower should be used for this. Also, the procurement and structural design work required for the airport should be completed in the coming weeks."
"Shirdi Airport is the nearest airport to Mumbai and Navi Mumbai Airport. Shirdi Airport can be used for parking small aircraft here. In this regard, if necessary, more land should be acquired to create facilities at Shirdi Airport from now onwards," he added.
"As far as Purandar Airport is concerned, survey has been done. Therefore, the Pune District Collector should immediately start the necessary process to acquire the land required for this airport so that the work of the airport can start soon. After the opening of this airport, the air service network in Maharashtra will further expand," the Chief Minister said.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said: "The immediate action should be taken to ensure that the work on Purandar Airport starts soon. Also, there should be facilities for landing large aircraft there, for which necessary care should be taken from now on. There should also be an arrangement for an aircraft hangar at this airport."
Swati Pandey, Vice-Chairman of Maharashtra Airport Development Authority, gave a presentation on the work of Shirdi and Purandar Airports.
The representatives of the consulting company and contractor company appointed for Shirdi Airport also gave information.

The Revenue Minister issued immediate orders to approve the recruitment, which will accelerate the scheme's implementation. The issue regarding administrative challenges in Jiwati tehsil due to vacant Kotwal posts were raised, prompting the Revenue Minister to order the immediate approval of a proposal for their appointment. This will streamline administrative operations in the region. Meanwhile, Minister Bawankule said that the state government has imposed a staggering fine of Rs 28,49,71,714 following the unauthorised excavation of 49,994 brass of minor minerals, specifically sand, in Gaur of Parbhani district, as part of a crackdown on illegal mining activities in the region. The Minister added, "Following the question raised by the Leader of the Opposition, an inquiry was conducted. We visited the site, and it was found that excavation was carried out without permission. A fine has been imposed, and a one-month deadline until July 17 has been given to pay the amount. Failure to comply will result in seizure action." He also elaborated that strict directives have been issued to curb illegal mining, with measures such as drone surveillance and electronic transport permits already in place. Evidence of illegal mining uncovered during the investigation in Gaur accelerated the enforcement action. The state government is also intensifying efforts to prevent such incidents in the future through stringent policies and increased use of technology. Minister Bawankule emphasised that this action would serve as a strong deterrent to those involved in illegal mining activities.

SC certificates of anyone other than Hindus, Buddhists and Sikhs will be cancelled: Devendra Fadnavis
IANS The Supreme Court has given a clear verdict on November 26, 2024, that only Hindus, Buddhists and Sikhs can get the benefit of reservation for Scheduled Castes (SC), and other religions are not eligible. In line with this, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis informed the Legislative Council on Thursday that the certificates of Scheduled Castes obtained after conversion will be cancelled. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said if a person belonging a religion other than Hinduism, Buddhism and Sikhism has obtained a Scheduled Caste certificate fraudulently, it will be will be taken against such a person if he or she has secured reservation benefits such as government jobs. If such a person has won an election using a fraudulently obtained SC certificate, their election will be declared null and void, Fadnavis said in the legislative council. Replying to a 'calling attention' motion, he also said the state government intends to bring in strong provisions to deal with cases of religious conversion through coercion and cheating. Amit Gorkhe (BJP) had claimed that freedom of religion was being misused by "crypto Christians", and some people benefit from reservations under the SC category while professing other religions. 'Crypto Christians' was an apparent reference to people who discreetly follow Christianity while belonging to a different religion on paper. On the face of it, they belong to an SC community and get reservation benefits like government jobs, he had said. Fadnavis said on November 26, 2024, the Supreme Court gave a verdict in which it made it clear that the Scheduled Castes category reservation can be availed only by Hindus, Buddhists and Sikhs, and not by those belonging to other religions."If anyone from religions other than Hinduism, Buddhism and Sikhism has availed an SC certificate or reservation, their validity certificates and caste certificates will be cancelled with due procedure. If anyone has availed benefits like government jobs, action will be taken against them," he said."Recovery (of monetary benefits) will be recommended from those who have availed benefits using fraudulently obtained caste certificates," he leader Chitra Wagh said there have been cases where women were duped into marriage by hiding the husband's cited a case in Sangli where a woman married into a family which secretly professed Christianity. The woman suffered torture and was forced to change her religion, leading to her death while she was seven months pregnant, Wagh said.A person can follow any religion and convert another person with consent, but law does not permit the use of force, cheating or enticement for conversion, the chief minister said."Complaints of coercion or inducement for conversion will lead to investigation and action against the concerned organisation," Fadnavis state government had formed a panel headed by the Director General of Police (DGP) for giving recommendations to deal with such cases, and it has submitted its report, he government will study it and bring in new (legal) provisions so that conversions do not happen by force or cheating, he said."Action can be taken under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in such cases. But a panel was formed to suggest strict provisions. The state government has the intentions of bringing in strong provisions to deal with such cases, and we will take a decision on this soon," he said. On Monday, Pankaj Bhoyar, Minister of State for Home, had said the state will bring an anti-conversion law in the winter session of the legislature, and it will be more stringent than similar legislations in other states. Pravin Darekar (BJP) claimed a secret campaign to lure people into converting was being carried out in poor localities and slums. Fadnavis acknowledged that such things take place in slums. He, however, said the government has no intention to ban religious conversions that take place consensually.

Fadnavis says firm on full implementation of trilingual policy
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday firmly reiterated his government's commitment to implementing the three-language formula across the state in school. He said the policy would be enforced '100 per cent'—though with flexibility on the choice of third language. Speaking at the Mumbai Tak Baithak, a YouTube interview series of India Today group's regional Marathi YouTube channel, Fadnavis clarified the government's stance on the much-debated language issue, saying the earlier resolution (GR) mandating Hindi as the third language was reviewed following widespread consultations. 'The initial concern raised was—why make Hindi compulsory? We accepted that concern and amended the GR. Now, if a student wishes to choose Hindi, they may, or else any other Indian language can be selected. We are even open to teaching the language online if there are not enough students for a dedicated class,' he said. The CM's comments come in the wake of a joint rally by Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray on July 5, where the Thackeray brothers voiced concern over the imposition of Hindi but maintained they were not opposed to the language itself. 'We won't tolerate forced imposition,' Uddhav had warned during the event. Fadnavis, however, countered the criticism by stating that the issue was being politicised unnecessarily. 'This is not a matter of prestige for us, but one of inclusive education. Whether the Trilingual Formula starts from Class 1 or later, that will be decided by the expert committee chaired by Narendra Jadhav. But the Three language formula will be implemented in Maharashtra 100 percent. We are not here to undermine any Indian language in favour of English,' he said. Addressing concerns around feasibility, especially with low enrolment in certain languages, Fadnavis pointed out logistical challenges: 'What if only two students opt for Telugu—where do we find teachers? That's why we are open to hybrid or digital solutions.' Fadnavis also took a swipe at Uddhav Thackeray, calling his current opposition a 'policy U-turn.' 'It was the previous MVA government that first proposed mandatory Hindi and English from Class 1 to 12. Uddhav Thackeray not only backed that decision but even formed a committee to implement it. His party's deputy leader was part of that very panel. Now they're opposing it. I am surprised by the flip-flop,' he remarked. The three-language formula GR, which mandates the study of three languages in school—typically Marathi and English as compulsory and Hindi as a third language—had become controversial in the state with Sena UBT and MNS terming it as an imposition of Hindi over Marathi. After the public backlash, just ahead of monsoon session on June 28, Fadnavis had announced that they are withdrawing the GR on the three-language formula and formulating a committee to take a decision on it.
