Waging direct fight against 'vote chori' from Bihar's soil: Rahul on Yatra
Gandhi said "vote chori" is not just an election issue but a "decisive battle" to protect democracy, the Constitution and the principle of 'one man, one vote'.
In a post on X, Gandhi said, "From 17th August, with 'Voter Adhikar Yatra, we are waging a direct fight against vote theft from the soil of Bihar." "This is not just an election issue - it is a decisive battle to protect democracy, the Constitution and the principle of 'one man, one vote'," the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said."We will ensure a clean voter list across the country. Youth, workers, farmers - every citizen, rise up and join this mass movement," he said.
"This time, the defeat of vote thieves - victory of the people, victory of the Constitution," Gandhi added. The former Congress president also shared a video montage on the yatra that also featured visuals from his previous Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra that had passed through Bihar as well.Gandhi along with INDIA bloc leaders in Bihar will embark on a 'Vote Adhikar Yatra' across the state starting August 17 against the revision of electoral rolls and to make the "battle against vote chori" a mass movement, the party had said on Wednesday. The yatra will culminate on September 1 with a rally at Patna's Gandhi Maidan. The Congress on Tuesday had claimed that "vote chori" was a "do-or-die" issue for it, and announced a roadmap to take its allegations to the people through various activities, including 'Loktantra bachao mashaal marches' on August 14 evening. The assertion was made after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge held a meeting with party general secretaries, in-charges and heads of its frontal organisations.Briefing reporters after the meeting, Congress leader and AICC in-charge of National Students' Union of India (NSUI) Kanhaiya Kumar had said that going forward, the Congress will take this to the people with three important programmes. On August 14, the eve of Independence Day, there will be a 'Loktantra bachao mashaal march' at all district headquarters, Kumar said, adding that between August 22 and September 7, the Congress will hold "vote chor, gaddi chhorh (vote thieves, relinquish power)" rallies in all state headquarters. "Between September 15 and October 15, a signature campaign will be run to save the right to vote and ensure people's participation," he had said, while asserting that the whole INDIA bloc is together on this.Last Thursday, Gandhi cited data from the 2024 Lok Sabha polls to claim that more than 1 lakh votes were "stolen" through five types of manipulation in the Mahadevapura Assembly segment of Bangalore Central Lok Sabha seat in Karnataka.
The opposition has been also protesting in both Houses of Parliament against the revision of electoral rolls, alleging that the EC's exercise is aimed at "disenfranchising voters" in Bihar ahead of the assembly elections due later this year. They have been demanding a discussion on the issue in both Houses.

CM on two-pronged strategy of ‘People's govt': 'We compete globally, yet prioritise welfare measures'
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has observed that the 'People's government' headed by him, while setting its sights on competing with global cities, is fully committed to delivering welfare benefits to uplift the disadvantaged sections of society. Addressing the Independence Day celebrations at Golkonda Fort on Friday, Revanth Reddy listed out his government's welfare schemes and their positive impact on society. The People's government had adopted a two-pronged approach, he explained. On the one hand, the government set for itself goals to compete with global cities; and, on the other hand, the government was delivering welfare benefits to fulfil the aspirations of the poor. "Clarity in thinking and transparency in implementation are the hallmark of our governance", the Chief Minister said. The state government had chosen an inclusive development approach by involving everyone and created miracles. So, Telangana had become a 'role model' for the country within 20 months, Revanth claimed. The present Congress government, soon after assuming power on December 7, 2023, 'restored democracy' and took policy decisions in tune with the aspirations and goals of people as well as Telangana activists and martyrs. The People's government accorded priority to the future and welfare of farmers, women, and youth. 'We took historic decisions to invent a social Telangana. We fulfilled the 100-year dream of the weaker sections by conducting the (Socio-Economic) Caste Census and implemented SC sub classification, thereby ending decades of waiting for the Scheduled castes. The two important decisions taken by the government are not only significant but also courageous in the history of India,' the CM remarked. On farmers' welfare, the Chief Minister said that farmers in the state could get rid of their debts and register the highest crop production in the country, upon implementation of the loan waiver scheme, Rythu Bharosa, along with bonus of Rs 500. Revanth Reddy said that women empowerment schemes, including free travel in RTC buses, had brought a paradigm shift in the lives of women in the state.

‘Stale, troubling': Congress slams PM's I-Day speech
NEW DELHI: Terming his Independence Day address 'stale, hypocritical, and troubling', the Congress on Friday lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for praising the RSS in the speech, alleging that the ruling BJP is ready to go to any extent of 'immorality' to remain in power, and that several 'irregularities' in elections are emerging across the country. After hoisting the national flag at the Congress headquarters, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said that opposition's votes are being openly cut in the name of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar electoral rolls, even as those alive are being declared dead. LoP in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and Kharge skipped the Independence Day speech, drawing criticism from the BJP. The Congress chief said the 'most surprising' thing was that the BJP has had no objection to the votes of 65 lakh people being cut. This clearly shows who benefited from the SIR exercise, he said. 'This is not a fight to win elections but to save India's democracy and protect the Constitution,' Kharge said, referring to the Congress's opposition to the SIR exercise. 'Those who are alive have been declared as dead. EC's impartiality can be understood from the fact that it is not ready to share whose votes are being cut and on what basis,' he said. Kharge also claimed that central investigation agencies like ED and CBI, and the Income Tax department have been used 'so openly for political purposes against the opponents that the Supreme Court of the country has to show them the mirror.' In a statement, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said the 'most troubling element' of Modi's speech was his 'name-checking' of the RSS, which was a 'blatant breach of the spirit of a constitutional, secular republic.
