Cramer's week ahead: Fed meeting, nonfarm payrolls, Big Tech earnings

Next week could be a game changer for Wall Street, CNBC's Jim Cramer said. He told investors to pay attention to a slew of market-moving events, including the Federal Reserve's meeting, the latest nonfarm payroll report and earnings tech titans Apple, Amazon, Meta and Microsoft. "Next week, no hyperbole, is pivotal. It's significant. I'm willing to make it a free-fire zone of superlatives," he said. "In short, next week determines the market's direction for the duration. Or at least the rest of the summer." On Monday, Cramer said he'll be paying attention to earnings from Celestica and Whirlpool. Cramer said electronics manufacturer Celestica will give insight into how a number of tech companies are doing. President Donald Trump's tariffs might bode well for home appliance maker Whirlpool, which does substantial manufacturing in the U.S., he continued. Tuesday brings reports from UnitedHealth, Boeing, Procter & Gamble, Starbucks and Visa. Cramer suggested UnitedHealth's cooperation with the government in a probe into its Medicare billing practices is a positive, even though the insurer remains "an un-investible story." Cramer said he hopes Boeing will detail its dealings with the government, and he predicted the stock will head higher. To Cramer, Procter & Gamble's business is "a question of raw costs and tariffs versus marketing muscle," but added that he thinks the dollar's weakness abroad is a tailwind for the company. Starbucks will likely reveal plans for its business in China, Cramer said, adding that he thinks the coffee chain will also report improved throughput. According to Cramer, Visa's quarter is usually met with selling because its financials are hard to understand. He said he would be a buyer on the dip. The Federal Reserve will meet on Wednesday, and Cramer said he thinks Fed Chair Jerome Powell will express the need for caution with respect to tariff-driven inflation. It's also likely Powell will say he intends to stay in his role until the end of his term next spring, Cramer added. Wednesday also brings earnings from Microsoft and Meta, and Cramer said their stock moves indicate better-than-expected results. Cramer recommended waiting to hear from Microsoft management before making a move on the stock. He said he thinks Meta will report success in advertising, specifically from social media platform Instagram. He also wondered if the company would start charging for messaging program WhatsApp, saying the new revenue stream could be a windfall. Big Tech earnings continue on Thursday, with Apple and Amazon set to report, and Cramer noted both companies stocks have been climbing steadily. While he said he still believes investors should own, not trade, Apple, he's expecting an "unexciting quarter" and a slowdown in growth from its services revenue stream. Cramer said he expects a solid quarter from Amazon, saying he thinks its business segments are performing well, namely its online retail, advertising and web services. Friday, the Labor Department will release the nonfarm payroll report, which measures employment. Cramer said it would be ideal to see continued growth in hiring and stables wages. President Donald Trump can't "hector" Powell to cut rates if wages are higher, he continued. Oil giants Chevron and Exxon Mobil will report Friday, and Cramer said he is unsure about what the latter will say. But he said he expects Chevron to raise its outlook, noting the company just completed its acquisition of Hess after winning a legal battle with Exxon over disputed oil assets. Pemberton's Slow Food Cycle to celebrate 20th anniversary on Aug.17

One of Pemberton's signature summer events is set to return for its 20th year. The Slow Food Cycle will roll through Pemberton Meadows on Sunday, Aug. 17, inviting cyclists to join in on a 40-kilometre round-trip while stopping at farms and small businesses along the way to purchase local produce, crafts and prepared food. 'There's nothing else quite like it,' said Andy Meeker, president of Tourism Pemberton in a release. 'It's a unique day where you can meet the people who grow your food, taste the flavours of the valley and enjoy the open road with your friends and family. We're thrilled to celebrate 20 years of this incredible community tradition.' The event, originally founded in 2005 by local farmers Anna Helmer and Lisa Richardson, has grown over two decades. Slow Food Cycle now regularly draws thousands of participants—an estimated 75 per cent of whom travel in from outside the region. 'It's heartening to see people still so eager to enjoy the simple joy of biking through farmland,' Helmer said in the release. 'We always knew it was a winning combination.' The event runs annually on the third Sunday in August and follows a single route north along Pemberton Meadows Road to the foot of the Hurley Forest Service Road. Cyclists are invited to stop at farms and vendors along the way—many of which offer fresh produce, handmade goods, prepared meals and live music. The road will be closed to most motor vehicle traffic. The event is not a race. Tourism Pemberton executive director Christine Raymond previously described it as 'a leisurely exploration.' She said its success has inspired similar events in B.C. and abroad. 'When it started, founding farmers [Helmer and Richardson] wanted people to know where their food was coming from and to have conversations with farmers,' Raymond said in a June interview. 'They just created this little event that sparked up and became a signature event.' While often celebrated for its community atmosphere, the event also plays a role in tourism and farmland advocacy. Organizers say it helps promote the value of preserving agricultural land in the Pemberton Valley and encourages farm-direct sales. The event was voted 'Pemberton's Favourite' in 2023, despite being cancelled due to wildfire smoke and access concerns. Tickets are now available at a 50-per-cent discount through . The early-bird rate applies to tickets purchased before Aug. 16. Updates are available via the event's Instagram page, @slowfoodcyclesunday. Error! Sorry, there was an error processing your request. Tea app that lets women post anonymous dating reviews was hit by a data breach that exposed 72K images

Tea, the anonymous dating advice app for women that has the internet buzzing, is in hot water after a data breach. Thousands of images of women, including selfies and photos of IDs that were used to verify their identity to join the app, were exposed because of the breach. "We can confirm that at 6:44 AM PST on Friday, July 25th, Tea identified unauthorized access to one of our systems and immediately launched a full investigation to assess the scope and impact," a spokesperson for Tea told Business Insider in a statement. "Preliminary findings indicate that the incident involved a legacy data storage system containing information from over two years ago," the spokesperson said. The Tea app allows women to post a "man" (including his name, estimated age, location, and photos) with the option to add commentary. Users can also react to posts with green or red flags. Some users post photos of men asking for "tea" — gossip — about them. Others share posts seeking advice. The app does not allow screenshots. The breach included about 72,000 images — about 13,000 of which were either selfies or photo identification "submitted during account verification," the company said. Another 59,000 images from within the app, as well as comments and direct messages, "were accessed without authorization." 404 Media, which found that the data had been posted to 4chan, first reported the breach on Friday morning, Tea said it is working with "third-party cybersecurity experts" after the breach and does not believe "current or additional user data was affected." Meanwhile, in the Tea app, an administrative account "TaraTeaAdmin" informed users about the breach in a post, which now has hundreds of comments on it. The Tea app has seen an influx of new users and hit No. 1 on the US Apple App Store this week. On Friday, the company posted an Instagram story stating that more than 2 million new users have requested to join the app. Privacy concerns had already been a topic of discussion amid Tea's virality — but mostly concerning the privacy of the men posted to the app. Now, those concerns are going both ways.
