There's More to The Story of The Plane Passenger Who Swallowed Rosary Beads Amidst Chaotic Fit
There are some more details emerging about the mystery man who had a violent outburst on an inflight America Airlines trip last month. We're not sure this justifies his chaotic behavior but it certainly adds some more context.
Delange Augustin, 31, was arrested following the scene that unfolded on March 10. He and his sister were onboard a flight from Savannah, Ga. to Miami when suddenly he appeared to have a 'fit of epilepsy,' according to The Independent. Following that, crew members and fellow flight passengers recalled Augustin stomping, shaking and yelling before getting physical with the folks surrounding him.
He punched, kicked and grabbed a woman's hair so tight, it had to be cut in order for her to be loose from his grip, witnesses told CBS. Once he was on the ground, witnesses said he swallowed a set of rosary beads. His sister, Medjina, originally told officers the two were traveling back home from Haiti to flee 'religious attacks' when her brother got paranoid that one of 'Satan's disciples' followed them onto the plane, the report says.
However, in an article posted to Haitian news outlet Le Nouvelliste, she said there was more to the story. Medjina said the two still struggle with the murder of their parents which occurred in the Haiti's capital, Port-au-Prince. She said their father killed before Augustin was born and their mother was killed on her way home from work just back in 2023.
She also added that Augustin went to Haiti to renew his J-1 visa before heading back to the U.S. to complete his radiology training. According to Medjina, the stress of her brother's studies and worry about his visa combined with these 'spiritual attacks' drove Augustin to what she called his very first mental health crisis.
'What was clearly a medical emergency was tragically mishandled,' Medjina wrote.
Medjina added that after he was bailed out of jail following the incident, the siblings tried once again to return to Haiti. However, after prosecutors succeeded in convincing the court to place him back in custody, FBI agent Savannah Solomon alerted Medjina his bond was denied, per WTOC. He was then arrested again at this flight leaving Atlanta. He's being held in custody at Coffee County Jail.
That's not all. The report says his visa also expired, putting him at risk of an ICE hold. He currently faces federal charges of interference with flight crew as well as state charges of battery, obstruction and criminal damage to property.

One user shared a video that claimed 'Joe Biden's eyes changed from blue to black.' This is not the first conspiracy theory Trump has dabbled in, although it may be one of the weirdest. Trump has relentlessly — and falsely — claimed the 2020 election was 'rigged.' He alleged that former president Barack Obama was not born in the U.S. (and then falsely blamed Hillary Clinton for starting the birther controversy). And he has said the physical attack against Paul Pelosi, husband of former House speaker Nancy Pelosi, was staged. During the 2024 campaign, Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance repeated fabricated claims that Haitian immigrants were eating pets. These theories have all been proven untrue or have zero credible evidence to back their assertions. Members of Trump's administration have also pushed conspiracy theory lies into the mainstream. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., has shared debunked claims, including that vaccines cause autism and that condensation emitted by airplanes is actually made up of harmful chemicals (a.k.a. chemtrails). These high-profile endorsements have arguably led to more people believing in them, including state legislators in Louisiana who recently voted to ban chemtrails. Over 70 cats, 3 dogs rescued from ‘biohazard' hoarding conditions in Ohio
72 cats and three dogs were seized from a person accused of hoarding them in two 'biohazard' houses in Ohio, according to our CBS affiliate WOIO-19 TV. On May 15, an ACAPL officer and an Astabula dog warden responded to the house and found biohazardous conditions, according to a social media post from the league. 'With urine soaked floors, and a flea infestation and the majority of the cats requiring urgent veterinary care it was decided to remove the animals,' the post said. Over 40 cats were rescued from the house. The ACAPL told WOIO-19 that many of the cats were suffering from an upper respiratory infection from the fecal matter and ammonia odor. Some of the cats were blind or only had one healthy eye, ACAPL said. Two of the cats had to get surgery to remove their entire eyeballs and optic nerve, WOIO-19 reported. While investigating the animal hoarding, authorities found a second location this week where the same person kept pets in unsanitary conditions. 28 cats and three dogs were rescued from this location. The league reported the property to the health department because conditions were 'uninhabitable for both animals and humans.' The ACAPL told WOIO-19 that these cats were in better health than those rescued from the first property. Some have already been treated and cleared for adoption, the league added. The conditions of the rescued dogs were not immediately available. 'This case has led to an overwhelming number of cats now in our care,' the league said on social media. WOIO-19 reported that the league must take all strays and animals seized by the warden due to a contract with the county. On May 20, the league posted to social media asking other rescues and shelters to help out and accept transfers. Trump Blames ‘Mental Anguish and Confusion' for Rejecting $15M CBS Offer
President Donald Trump's lawyers gave a very Trump-like excuse for refusing to accept $15 million to settle his $20 billion lawsuit against CBS. The MAGA president's lawyers claimed that the 'mental anguish and confusion' he suffered from a 'deceptively edited' 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris was just too much to bear in a Wednesday filing, The Wrap reported. The interview was conducted in Oct. 2024, leading up to the 2024 presidential election in November. 'Defendants' conduct, including news distortion, constituted commercial speech which cannot by any reasonable interpretation be found to have constituted editorial judgment, and that speech damaged Plaintiffs,' Trump's lawyers argued. Instead, Trump's lawyers want CBS' parent company Paramount Global to cough up more than $25 million, the Wall Street Journal reported. 'The fact that such commercial speech was issued by a news organization does not insulate Defendants from liability under the First Amendment,' the lawyers wrote. Trump is a co-plaintiff in the lawsuit with Texas Rep. Ronny Jackson, his one-time White House physician, who claims he was also 'injured' by CBS' conduct because he 'is a consumer of broadcast and digital news media content.' Paramount ripped the lawsuit as an 'an affront to the First Amendment' that is 'without basis in law or fact' in a March motion to dismiss. But the company now appears to be looking to put the conflict behind it as it attempts to push through an $8 billion merger with Skydance Media that must go through federal review under the FCC. CBS News CEO Wendy McMahon announced that she was leaving her post earlier this month after reportedly refusing to offer an apology to Trump as part of a settlement, WSJ reported. Paramount execs are also fretting over how such a potential settlement can expose them to future shareholder litigation and criminal charges for bribing a public official, a sources told the WSJ. Meanwhile other media companies and law firms have capitulated to Trump's demands in a bid to avoid being targeted by Trump's DOJ led by MAGA loyalist Pam Bondi. Meta agreed to pay $25 million to settle a 2021 lawsuit from Trump in January after the social media platform suspended his accounts following the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riots. X paid $10 million to settle a similar suit the following month. Disney has also shilled out $15 million to Trump's presidential foundation and paid $1 million in legal fees to protect anchor George Stephanopoulos from further legal action from the president.
