38 media practitioners take part in Immigration Department shooting event

PUTRAJAYA: Journalists traded notepads for pistols today as 38 local media practitioners took aim at targets during a special shooting event hosted by the Immigration Department.
They were specially invited to take part in the 2025 Immigration Department Director-General's Shooting Programme with Media Partners, held at the Shapadu Target Shooting Club here.
Immigration Department director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said the programme aimed to strengthen ties and promote better understanding between the department and the media.
"This simple, casual programme serves as a platform for fostering strategic cooperation between the Immigration Department and the media.
"Through this programme, our relationship will grow closer, and in terms of our respective duties and responsibilities, it will help make things easier and allow us to support each other," he said at the event.
Participants were given the opportunity to use a CZ P-07 pistol in two shooting events: 'centre fire' and steel plate shooting.
Also present were Media Prima Bhd group chairman Datuk Seri Dr Syed Hussian Aljunid, Media Prima group managing director Rafiq Razali, Media Prima Omnia chief operating officer Datuk Mohd Efendi Omar, and Media Prima Television Networks group editor for News and Current Affairs (NCA) Azhari Muhidin.
Rafiq, who took part in the programme, said it was his first experience handling a firearm and expressed appreciation for the department's warm reception.
"This is my first time shooting. And Alhamdulillah, it went well.
"I'd like to thank the Immigration Department director and all our friends for welcoming us today," he said.
Rafiq added that Media Prima values its relationship with the Immigration Department and looks forward to deeper collaboration moving forward.
"I believe the relationship between us and the department will continue for a long time.
"As strategic partners, we've always wanted to work with the Immigration Department, given their important role in the country."

Umno Tangga Batu division seeks mandate to contest parliamentary seat

MELAKA: The Umno Tangga Batu Division today approved a motion for the party to be given the mandate to contest the Tangga Batu parliamentary seat in the next general election. Its leader Datuk Rais Yasin said taking into account the history and composition of the voters, Umno is seen as having a bright chance to reclaim the seat currently held by a Perikatan Nasional representative. 'We appeal for the Tangga Batu parliamentary seat to be returned to Umno. This request is relevant based on the demographics of Tangga Batu parliamentary voters, which consist of 85,000 Malay voters out of a total of 120,000 registered voters. 'More uniquely, we have almost 10,000 military voters because this area is home to several main camps, namely Terendak Camp, Para Camp and Sungai Udang Camp. So we hope that Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership can see the matter and approve our request,' he said here today. He told reporters after the opening of the Umno Tangga Batu Division Delegates Meeting 2025 by vice president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani at the Sungai Udang Prison Complex Hall, which was also attended by Melaka Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh. In the 15th general election (GE15) in 2022, BN through its candidate Datuk Lim Ban Hong from MCA lost in a five-cornered contest. - Bernama

WRUR programme shows Melaka govt's dedication to people-centric governance

JASIN: The implementation of the Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat (WRUR) programme reflects the Melaka government's strong commitment to a people-centric administration through ground engagement that delivers tangible results. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the programme has helped resolve various long-standing issues, with public concerns receiving due attention from the relevant agencies and departments. 'This aligns with the state government's core agenda of bridging the gap between the government and the people. We aim to build an administration that truly listens to the people's grievances and resolves issues effectively. 'When we go to the ground, the impact is real and felt by the people. We are fully committed to making that happen,' he said during the closing ceremony of the WRUR programme for the Bemban state constituency here today. Also present were Melaka State Secretary Datuk Azhar Arshad and Bemban state constituency coordinator Mohd Raziff Yakop. Ab Rauf said 148 programmes were successfully carried out during the two-week WRUR initiative in the Bemban state constituency, covering numerous areas that directly addressed the needs of the people. He added that during the same period, the government received and responded to 106 public complaints, of which 92 issues were resolved, while the rest are still being addressed. 'This success is the result of strong synergy among all parties, including community leaders, government departments and agencies at both the state and federal levels, government-linked companies and non-governmental organisations. 'The WRUR programme will continue in other constituencies, with every issue and complaint to be examined in detail and addressed at the grassroots level to ensure meaningful solutions for the people,' he said. Meanwhile, he announced that the government has allocated RM19.03 million to upgrade infrastructure and facilities at three schools in the Bemban constituency, through the Public Works Department. This includes the construction of a new canteen block and a covered open hall at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kesang Tua, and a new pure science laboratory building at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Tun Perak. 'Also planned is the rebuilding of dilapidated blocks at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina On Lock,' he added. - Bernama
