"Congress wants 'tukde tukde' of Bharat": Poonawalla slams Ajoy Kumar for calling Sikkim a "neighbouring Country"
Poonawalla described Kumar's remarks as an insult to Sikkim and the entire Northeast region. He accused Congress of longstanding hostility toward the Northeast.
'Today, the statement made by Ajoy Kumar that Sikkim is not an integral part of India and is, in fact, a neighbouring nation, shows how he has insulted not just Sikkim but the entire northeast. Congress has always been against the Northeast. We have seen they have bombed one of the states in the Northeast. They have said bye-bye to Assam in the 1960s,' Poonawalla told ANI.
Taking a jibe at Congress, the BJP spokesperson said that they follow the 'footsteps of Jinnah.'
'Congress is following the footsteps of Jinnah. It is a 'Jinnahwadi' party. Just like Jinnah wanted that there should be an Islamic state and division of India, the Congress party advocates for a Sharia Islamic state in some parts, and it wants the 'tukde tukde' of Bharat,' Shehzad Poonawalla said.
The row began when addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Ajoy Kumar named Sikkim as one of the 'neighbouring nations' alongside Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka, with whom India's relations have been spoiled.
Meanwhile, Kumar shared an X post and apologised for his statement, calling it a slip of the tongue.
Ajoy Kumar wrote, 'Yesterday in my press conference on 'SAIL 400 crore scam', when I was speaking on the deteriorating relations with our neighbouring countries, I accidentally took name of a state. For which I sincerely apologise as it was just a slip of tongue.'
Further, he targeted the BJP and asked them to hold a press conference on the 'atrocities' in 'Amrit Kaal' rather than his 'human error'.
'I heard from a journalist friend that @BJP4India is planning to organise a press conference on this small human error. I want to ask BJP; 1. Why don't they do a press conference on the atrocities happening in this 'AmritKaal'? I did speak about it too yesterday at my Press Conference,' the X post read.
He questioned the BJP over the alleged SAIL scam of Rs 400 crore.

Previously, residents relied on a ferry service, which was unavailable after sunset. Raghavendra acknowledged veteran Congress leader Kagodu Thimmappa, whilst attributing the project's success to his father, former CM BS Yediyurappa, and PM Narendra Modi . The project commenced with Nitin Gadkari laying the foundation stone in 2018. Despite completing the Detailed Project Report within a year, the project encountered several obstacles. Responding to criticism from district in-charge minister Madhu Bangarappa regarding public funding and allegations about photo shoots during site visits, Raghavendra maintained his visits were for inspection purposes.

'Desperate bid' to revive political fortunes: BJP leaders attack Thackeray cousins over joint rally
BJP leaders in Maharashtra on Saturday attacked Uddhav and Raj Thackeray, saying their joint rally in Mumbai was a "desperate attempt" to revive their political fortunes and recover the lost ground ahead of the civic polls, and added that the event was more like a "family reunion". Uddhav and Raj on Saturday shared the public stage and hosted a victory gathering, titled 'Awaj Marathicha' in Mumbai's Worli to celebrate the rollback of two Government Resolutions (GRs) issued earlier by the Devendra Fadnavis-led dispensation introducing Hindi as a third language from Class 1 in state schools. During the rally, Uddhav, who heads the Shiv Sena (UBT), said he and his cousin Raj, the president of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), have come together to stay united, and hinted at contesting the upcoming civic elections together. Raj took aim at Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, saying he managed to do what Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray and others could not by bringing the two cousins together. State minister Ashish Shelar and BJP MLC Pravin Darekar targeted the Thackeray cousins over the event. Shelar described the Worli event as a desperate attempt by the Sena (UBT) to recover its lost political ground. His regret over losing power was evident," he said. He asserted that Marathi people had already shown their support to the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance in the November 2024 state assembly elections. "Did Pakistanis vote for us?...It was the Marathi voters who gave the Mahayuti a massive mandate. In Mumbai too, BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP's Sana Malik won with the support of Marathi people," he said. There was confusion on stage about party flags and special invites, which proved it was not a cultural event but a calculated political programme, he added. Asked about the remarks against CM Fadnavis, Darekar said similar statements were earlier made by NCP (SP) and they were possibly influenced by Sharad Pawar's proximity to Uddhav Thackeray. "Still, the fact that Uddhav is attacking Fadnavis shows the latter's popularity. People throw stones at those trees that bear fruit," the BJP legislator said. Responding to Raj Thackeray's remark that Devendra Fadnavis achieved what Balasaheb Thackeray could not, Darekar said it should be taken positively. He sought to know how many Marathi builders benefited when the Thackerays were in power. Darekar also highlighted the BJP's efforts to promote Marathi language. "It was Fadnavis who constantly followed up with the Centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi who granted the status of classical language to Marathi. It should not be forgotten," he said. On Uddhav's allegation that BJP discards its allies after using them, Darekar countered saying it was the Sena (UBT) chief himself who abandoned his own leaders. "We allowed the (undivided) Shiv Sena to have its mayor in BMC despite the BJP being just a few seats short. But it was Uddhav Thackeray who exercised use-and-throw policy with Sena leaders like Narayan Rane, Chhagan Bhujbal, Ramdas Kadam, Ganesh Naik and even Raj Thackeray," he said. Commenting on Uddhav's newfound partnership with Raj, the BJP MLC said it was driven purely by political needs. "He never gave Raj importance in the party. But now, in order to save his own position, he is trying to bring him back," he said. While acknowledging the right to protest, Darekar warned that such movements must not lead to division. "Under the garb of protest, if there is an attempt to create division based on language, caste or religion, it should be avoided," he said.

Chennai: AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Saturday launched his 2026 election campaign with the release of a new logo and slogan from the party headquarters, 'MGR Maligai', in Chennai. He announced that his statewide campaign titled 'Makkalai Kaappom, Thamizhagathai Meetpom' (Let's Protect People, Let's Redeem Tamil Nadu) will begin from Coimbatore on July 7, covering eight districts in the first phase. The newly launched campaign logo featured two leaves with the AIADMK flag, a raised fist symbolising revolution, and the slogans 'Puratchi Tamizharin Ezhuchi Payanam' and 'Tamilagathai Kappom, Makkalai Meetpom', reinforcing the party's mission to protect and uplift the people of Tamil Nadu. While addressing the event, Edappadi Palaniswami said, "Following the footsteps of Perarignar Anna, our leaders MGR and Amma have lived their lives for people. AIADMK is following that and working for the welfare of people." Taking a sharp jibe at Chief Minister MK Stalin, Mr Palaniswami added, "Chief Minister MK Stalin says Opposition leader now only meeting the people. But CM thinks speaking about me, but actually, he is speaking about himself. I always live with the people." Mr Palaniswami made it clear that although this was a campaign tour, it carried a much larger political goal. "Our goal is to remove this evil government," he added, setting a confrontational tone ahead of the 2026 state elections. "To defeat DMK, all like-minded parties should unite. They also should accept our request, which is our opinion," he further said. He later added that Union Minister Amit Shah has already mentioned that AIADMK will head the NDA alliance in the State, and he will be the candidate for the Chief Minister post. Earlier, AIADMK spokesperson Kovai Sathyan welcomed the reported remarks made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the BJP-AIADMK alliance and the chief ministerial candidate for the 2026 Assembly elections. He said that all was well within the BJP-AIADMK alliance and that Edappadi K Palaniswami would lead the state again.
