VK imposes guv rule in Chakma council for six months
The decision has been taken by Singh in response to the frequent changes in leadership resulting in political instability and persistent maladministration that have hampered effective governance in the CADC.
A BJP leader said an inquiry commission is also likely to be constituted under Para 14 of the Sixth Schedule to investigate the functioning and administrative irregularities of the CADC.
CADC BJP president Durjya Dhan Chakma told TOI over phone that BJP welcomes this bold and timely decision.
"It is a much-needed step to restore transparency, accountability, and stable governance in the Chakma Autonomous District Council — paving the way for renewed development and the welfare of the people," he said.
Political instability raised its head during mid-June when the BJP ruled CADC led by chief executive member Molin Kumar Chakma was voted out of power in a no trust vote on June 16 after 12 BJP members of district council (MDCs) in the 20-member CADC switched loyalty to the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) ruling the state.

BJP welcomes CAT stay on Urdu mandate for Naib Tehsildar posts in J-K
The BJP on Monday welcomed the decision of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) for staying the government order making Urdu mandatory for applying to the post of Naib Tehsildar in Jammu and Kashmir. The CAT directed the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Recruitment Board (SSRB) to accept applications from candidates who possess a graduation with knowledge of any of the five official languages — Hindi, Kashmiri, English, Dogri, and Urdu. The Bharatiya Janata Party legislative party on Monday held a dharna in front of the Civil Secretariat and Assembly to lodge their protest and press for the revocation of the government order making Urdu mandatory for Naib Tehsildar examinations in Jammu and Kashmir. 'We welcome the decision of the CAT to stay this illegal and discriminatory order of the National Conference government. It is our victory', Senior High Court lawyer and MLA R S Pathania told reporters here. The bench comprising Member (A) Ram Mohan Johri and Member (J) Rajinder Singh Dogra had given the verdict on the matter. The applicants, represented by Senior Advocate Abhinav Sharma and Advocate Abhirash Sharma, challenged the Urdu language condition as being 'ultra vires the Constitution of India,' citing violations of the principles of equality and non-discrimination. CAT issued notices to the respondents, directing them to file their reply within four weeks from the date of this order. The next date of hearing is fixed for August 13. BJP MLA said that it is good news that CAT has stayed the government order on Urdu. 'All candidates can now file their applications for the post of Naib Tehsildars. There is no discrimination on the basis of language ', he said.

PFI's plea against ban not maintainable: Centre
The Centre on Monday (July 14, 2025) objected to the maintainability of Popular Front of India's (PFI) plea against an order upholding the five-year ban imposed on it by the government. The Centre informed a bench of the Delhi High Court which included Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela that the petition was not maintainable as the tribunal was headed by a sitting high court judge and therefore the order couldn't be challenged under Article 226 of Constitution of India. 'I have a preliminary objection on the maintainability of the writ petition. The remedy under Article 226 or 227 of the Constitution is not available. The only remedy available is under Article 136 of the Constitution,' said Additional Solicitor General S.V. Raju. Mr. Raju added, 'The tribunal was manned by a sitting judge of this high court and a high court judge is not subordinate to this court. Article 227 applies to subordinate courts'. The PFI counsel claimed the issue was with a division bench of the Delhi High Court in a previous case and the petition was therefore maintainable. The court posted the hearing for August 7. The PFI challenged the March 21, 2024 order of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act tribunal confirming the decision by the Centre on September 27, 2022. The court is yet to issue formal notice in the matter. The Centre banned the PFI for five years for its alleged links with global terrorist organisations, such as ISIS, and trying to spread communal hatred in the country.

Minister Ashish Sood to join special tree plantation drive in Janakpuri tomorrow
New Delhi: Delhi Home and Power Minister Ashish Sood will on Tuesday boost the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign - inspired by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi - by planting a sapling in the Janakpuri area, said an official. As part of the ongoing Van Mahotsav of the Delhi government, the Minister will plant a sapling at Municipal Corporation of Delhi park in A-2 Block Ram Vatika in Janakpuri, said the official on Monday. Sood's green initiative follows Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena's participation in the New Delhi Municipal Council's (NDMC) special tree plantation drive on Sardar Patel Marg in the national capital under the nationwide initiative 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' on Sunday. NDMC Vice-Chairman and BJP leader Kuljeet Singh Chahal said the L-G planted an Amaltas (Cassia fistula) sapling, symbolising hope and resilience. NDMC Chairman Keshav Chandra and BJP Lok Sabha MP from New Delhi, Bansuri Swaraj, jointly planted a Pride of India (Lagerstroemia speciosa) sapling. Chahal planted a Gulmohar (Delonix regia) tree, reinforcing NDMC's commitment to greening the Capital. On the occasion, Chahal elaborated on NDMC's special 'Gap Filling Campaign' -- a strategic effort launched from July 1 to ensure continuous green cover along 80 major roads, intersections, and roundabouts. Unlike previous years, where only a few stretches were covered, this year's drive scales up significantly, aiming to eliminate barren or patchy areas with lush vegetation. BJP leader Chahal said that this focused initiative, meticulously monitored by NDMC's Horticulture Department, will not only enhance aesthetics but also contribute to reducing urban air pollutants such as PM10, PM2.5, and PM1, thereby improving air quality and public health. He shared that under the direction of the L-G, the Delhi government has undertaken a parallel large-scale greening project along Sardar Patel Marg, with the plantation of more than 12,000 flowering trees and shrubs. This includes iconic species like Amaltas, Queen's Crepe Myrtle, Rosy Trumpet Tree, and Bougainvillaea.
