Longhorns tight end named to Biletnikoff Award watch list

USA Today3 hours ago
Over the last few months, the Texas Longhorns roster has undergone significant changes. They have been busy in the transfer portal, adding some of the best talent in the nation, including Jack Endries. On Wednesday, the Longhorns' new tight end made national headlines. He was named to the preseason watch list for the Biletnikoff Award, which is given annually to the best receiver in college football regardless of position.
The Monte Vista High School product is coming off a very productive 2024 campaign. Last year, with Cal, he led the Bears in receiving yards with 623 and receptions with 56. He was one of the best at his position in the ACC, finishing third among all tight ends in receiving yards.
As Endries proved to be a reliable option in the passing game, he had a few unforgettable performances. That included a pair of 100-yard receiving games, with one coming against Pitt and the other against NC State. He was also a human highlight reel in the Art of LA Bowl against UNLV, hauling in seven receptions for 61 yards.
Although the last few months have been full of change for Endries, he is joining a program that specializes in developing tight ends. Gunnar Helm was the latest success story and was drafted by the Tennessee Titans just a few months ago. Endries will be looking to follow in his footsteps while catching passes from Arch Manning.
In two seasons at Cal, Endries showed just how good he can be. He finished his Bears career with 91 receptions for 1,030 receiving yards and four touchdowns. The Longhorns' newest weapon was also a nominee for the Burlsworth Trophy in 2023. That is an award that his new teammate, Michael Taaffe, is familiar with.
While Endries ' focus will be on making a good first impression, he will also be watching how voting for the Biletnikoff Award plays out. The semifinalists will be revealed on Nov. 25. A few weeks later, on Dec. 11, the winner will be announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN. Endries, like many in Austin, hopes he will hear his name called.

Texas transfer class ratings revealed by EA College Football 26

One of the cool aspects of EA Sports' return to college football is the player ratings. While some will quibble with a few, generally it seems EA College Football 26 has some real scouting and science behind them. Longhorns fans have a good sense of where most returning players land in the ratings. But what about the transfers? When a transfer is announced, it is hard to know just how good the new player is and how he fits within the team. Thanks to the release of the 2026 version of the game, we now know what the EA CFB computers think of the Texas Longhorns transfer class. 90 - TE Jack Endries (Cal) A high rating to be sure, but Endries is the jewel of this year's transfer class. He's already been named a 2026 NFL Draft Sleeper by ESPN and a preseason All-American by Athlon. The former Golden Bear was third in the ACC last year with 623 receiving yards at tight end. 84 - WR Emmett Mosley V (Stanford) During his freshman year, the former Cardinal made the most of his opportunities, hauling in 48 catches for 525 yards and six touchdowns in eight starts. Mosley, who was a ACC Rookie of the Week last year, has good size at 6-foot-2 and has three years of eligibility left. 84 - P Jack Bouwmeester (Utah) The 6-foot-3, 197 pound Aussie had 60 punts in 2024 for 2,682 yards on an average of 44.7 yards per punt. 13 of the 60 punts went for 50+ yards and 9 landed inside the 20-yard line. 83 - DT Cole Brevard (Purdue) During the 2024 season, Brevard appeared in 11 games and recorded a career-high 19 tackles. He also added 1.5 sacks and 5.5 tackles for a loss to his resume. While his statistics may not jump off the page, he was a solid player for Purdue and produced when called upon. Texas is looking for instant impact from the former Boilermaker. 82 - K Mason Shipley (Texas State) Shipley, who will be a senior for the coming season, has kicked 31 of 35 field goals in his career. The Liberty Hill, TX native was was first-team Sun Belt kicker for 2023 and a semifinalist for the 2023 Lou Groza Award. He also made a 60-yard FG last season setting both the school and conference record. 81 - DT Hero Kanu (Ohio State) Kanu played in 26 games with the Buckeyes and had 14 tackles and one sack. He came to the United States from Geltendorf, Germany in high school when it was clear he was going to be a college prospect and attended Santa Margarita Catholic High School in California. 81 - DT Travis Shaw (North Carolina) Shaw entered the portal after UNC fired former Texas coach Mack Brown in November. The 6'5.5, 330-pounder has one season of eligibility remaining. Shaw was one of Brown's biggest signings in Chapel Hill. In his three seasons at North Carolina, Shaw had a hard time being consistent. But his junior campaign showed a lot of improvement, recording 26 tackles, up from his freshman high of 18. 79 - LB Brad Spence (Arkansas) In his last season as a Razorback, Spence recorded 55 total tackles and 4.5 sacks. He also added one pass deflection to his resume while proving to be an essential part of the Arkansas defense. He will look to take his game to another level while wearing the burnt orange. 78 - DT Maraad Watson (Syracuse) In his only season as an Orangemen, the New Jersey native recorded 30 total tackles and one pass deflection. He also recorded the first sack of his college career. As he made headlines with his play, Watson also added to his trophy case. 76 - DT Lavon Johnson (Maryland) As a true freshman in 2023, Johnson appeared in six games, recording five tackles and one sack before notching 19 tackles, one sack, and 1.5 tackles for a loss in eight games in 2024. Johnson missed several games with injury during the 2024 season and only played 164 snaps This article originally appeared on Longhorns Wire: EA College Football 26 reveals quality of Longhorns transfer class

Countdown to Kickoff: Jack Endries

This is the addition that gets the Texas fans as excited as any this offseason. Gunnar Helm was a really important piece to the Texas offense a year ago and replacing him with Jack Endries keeps that incredible ability at the TE position. Endries is coming off a year where he was the leading receiver on the Cal Golden Bears. He came over the spring portal window and filled a rather big hole at the TE position. 2024 Stats: 56 catches, 623 yards(11.1 yards/catch), 2 TDs Endries is a player that really resembles Gunnar Helm in his play style and ability. He does most of his damage over the middle of the field, something that Sarkisian loves to use with his TEs. He also is a plus blocker in pass pro and in the run game. He can be a true chess piece in this Texas offense, but the upside is incredible. His athletic ability jumps off the page immediately, and it seems that is showing itself throughout the early parts of camp. He comes into a room where he will be the TE1 without question and will be given opportunity after opportunity in this offense, going into a year where he could make plenty of NFL money. Given Sarkisian's track record with TEs, it's likely Endries will have his best year yet this year. The versatility that Endries can bring to the offense might be even greater than what Helm gave Texas a year ago. He has great hands, can line up just about anywhere and can make plays after the catch. That was a true strength of Gunnar Helm's game, and I think Longhorn fans will see plenty more of that this year. The question is his deep route ability, but it seems much of that is more Cal's offense than anything else. He will get his changes for those seam shots Helm got last year. He opens the year with the second best odds to win the John Mackey Award, in a year where the TE position is incredibly talented. Eli Stowers, RJ Maryland, Max Klare and more will have a footprint on this season, but Endries could very well be the most productive of the bunch. The biggest part of his role this season is the leadership he will provide to a talented, but young room. Jordan Washington, Spencer Shannon, Nick Townsend and more will factor in, but getting guidance from a more experienced player will be huge for their development. It also gives Texas some flexibility at the position, knowing they have a reliable option in their back pocket at all times. Endries and Mosley were the two pass catchers Texas went out and got in the portal and I think they are both perfect fits. They both should be guys that can make big time plays consistently for the Longhorns, including in Week 1 vs. Ohio State. Continuing with the countdown tomorrow, I will jump into the freshman pass catching options for the Horns. Daylan McCutcheon, Michael Terry III and more will be factors for Texas this year, so let's break them down tomorrow. Follow us on X/Twitter at @LonghornsWire.
