'Ramesh is in no state to talk to anyone. He is still grappling with the tragedy,' TOI quoted Deepak Devji, village sarpanch from Diu who accompanied the family to Ahmedabad, as saying. With no other immediate family members present, Ramesh is staying in a hotel near the hospital, while a close friend remains by Viswash's side during his recovery.

The two brothers sat close to each other on the ill-fated AI 171, Viswash in seat 11A, right next to the emergency exit, and Ajaykumar across the aisle in seat 11J. Moments after takeoff, the plane crashed. Viswash managed to escape the burning wreckage while his younger brother lost his life instantly.
A video captured by rescue workers shows Viswash stumbling through debris, bleeding and in shock, repeatedly crying,
'
Plane fatyo che! Plane fatyo che!' (The plane has exploded). Locals and rescue teams rushed him into an ambulance.

American Express plans 'largest investment ever' in platinum credit card

American Express Co. teased updates coming later this year to its travel-focused Platinum credit cards, announcing what it called its 'largest investment ever' in a credit-card refresh. 'We're going to take these cards to a new level, not only in what they offer in travel, dining and lifestyle benefits, but also in how they look and feel,' Howard Grosfield, Amex's group president for US consumer services, said in a statement Monday. Amex raised its Platinum card annual fee to $695 in July 2021, when it also added $200 in annual hotel credits. Since then, the New York-based company has faced intensifying competition for premium credit-card customers, including from JPMorgan Chase & Co.'s Sapphire Reserve card and Capital One Financial Corp.'s Venture X Rewards card. The Amex update will apply to both the US consumer and business Platinum cards, the company said. It didn't provide more specifics on what changes are coming. Card upgrades are critical for new-card acquisition and fees to fuel Amex's revenue growth targets, Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Ben Elliott wrote in a note to clients. 'Consumers' appetite for ever-higher annual fees and complex, incentive-driven rewards structures could be tested if demand slows, but the formula has driven growth consistently for decades,' Elliott said. Access to Amex's global lounges is one of the benefits linked to the Platinum card. A new Centurion lounge will be opening at Tokyo's Haneda Airport in the next year, Amex said in the statement, in addition to already-announced plans for new ones in Salt Lake City and Newark, New Jersey.

In poll-bound Bihar, PM to flag off export of locomotives to Guinea

PM Narendra Modi (File photo) NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to flag off export of the first locomotive from Marhowrah factory in Saran for Guinea in West Africa on Friday, signalling the NDA govts' — both at Centre and state — thrust on accelerating economic activities in poll-bound Bihar. Railway ministry officials said that 150 Make in India Evolution Series (ES43ACmi) locomotives for SimFer's Simandou iron ore project in Guinea worth more than Rs 3,000 crore are being manufactured. Simandou will be Africa's largest mining project. 'In the current financial year, 37 locomotives will be exported, another 82 locomotives will be shipped out in 2026-27 and the remaining 31 locomotives in the third year,' said an official. Though the Marhowrah diesel locomotive factory (DLF) was announced by then railway minister Lalu Prasad, it remained inactive. Spread over 70 acres, the factory was established in 2018 to indigenously manufacture 1,000 state-of-the-art locomotives. The annual production capacity of the factory is over 100 locomotives. The contract to export the locomotives was awarded to Wabtec Locomotive Private Ltd, a joint venture between Indian Railways and US-based Wabtec Corporation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo All these locomotives will have AC cabs. Each locomotive will have a single cab. Two locomotives together can carry the load of 100 wagons with maximum permissible speed. 'For manufacturing of these locomotives, three types of tracks — broad gauge, standard gauge and Cape guage have been laid in Marhowrah premises,' said another railway official. Officials said with the Indian Railway network achieving full electrification, there is a huge scope for exporting diesel locos to countries where there is demand. 'It's an opportunity to increase our export of locos that match the best standard across the globe. For Bihar, it will be a big milestone,' said an official.

Air India ends Imphal operations, AI Express to take over

Guwahati: Amid operational difficulties and technical issues causing significant delays at Guwahati airport over two days, Air India ceased full-service operations from Imphal International Airport in the northeast from Monday. Officials indicated this was a strategic decision. While AAI senior officials noted increased precautionary aircraft inspections across the country, including the northeast, aviation sector sources clarified that Air India's withdrawal from Imphal stemmed from strategic considerations rather than security or technical issues. An aviation industry source said services ended on Monday due to route optimisation. The source added that Air India's budget carrier, Air India Express, intends to operate these previously served routes from Imphal International Airport. "In non-metro cities like Imphal, Air India Express offers more suitable fares that match the budget of the flyers. Air India Express is planning to gradually take over those routes on which Air India services were discontinued from Imphal. But the introduction of flights by Air India Express will be based on market demands," a source in Air India Express told TOI. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 오스템 임플란트 받아가세요 임플란터 더 알아보기 Undo The official clarified that the withdrawal of Air India from Imphal is not linked to any security-related issues following the Ahmedabad plane crash. The northeast operations for both airlines faced challenges recently. A technical fault in a Kolkata-bound Air India Express aircraft on Saturday night led to about 18-hour delay for passengers, causing operational issues at Guwahati Airport. Subsequently, a Guwahati-Hyderabad flight was cancelled at 11 pm on Sunday due to operational constraints, prompting passenger protests at the airport. "On June 15, Guwahati-Hyderabad - scheduled departure was at 13:40, which was revised to 23:00 and later cancelled due to operational reasons. Multiple options were given to guests. Guests who chose to go by the next day's flights were provided with hotel accommodation in Guwahati. Meals were also served to all guests," Air India Express said in response to a query by TOI. It stated that on Monday, the additional flight on Guwahati-Hyderabad departed at 12:40 pm. "The regular service on Guwahati-Hyderabad departed on time today at its usual time of 13:40. The aircraft was a Boeing 737-8," it added. The Imphal International Airport authorities penned an emotional note on Sunday evening, calling it "Farewell to a Legacy: Final Moments of Air India at Imphal International Airport." "As it took its final departure, an era of Air India operations at Imphal came to a close," read the note on its social media page. "These poignant final moments capture the heartfelt farewell as the 'Big Brother' bid adieu to Imphal International Airport after years of dedicated service. With a legacy rooted in reliability, resilience, and a deep connection with the people of Manipur, Air India's departure truly marks the end of an era," it added. In the picture, an emotional Air India employee was seen waving goodbye, tears gently rolling down, while the "Big Brother" — Air India — cast one last look at the upcoming new terminal building and ATS complex, as if offering a silent blessing. "As the aircraft taxied out, the younger brother, AIX (Air India Express), stood by quietly, watching with a heavy heart and a solemn promise — to carry forward the legacy and provide the best possible service. With a final wave of blessing, the Big Brother ascended into the skies — his departure etched forever in the hearts of all who witnessed it," read the post.
