As the 2026 Kerala Assembly Elections approaches, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has launched a massive public outreach programme to reconnect with people and address their expectations, aiming to retain power in the state. The ruling CPI(M)-led LDF is all set to contest the battle against the Congress-led UDF, banking on Vijayan's image as the leader who will continue as Chief Minister.
The LDF has placed Vijayan, Kerala's first chief minister to win consecutive terms, as the face of its campaign once again with a that Vijayan's leadership and development agenda will go forward if re-elected in the state.
To mark the fourth anniversary of his second term, the 79-year-old CM is touring all 14 districts of Kerala. During these visits, he will meet citizens from different communities and professions, listening to their concerns of the people and highlighting his government's achievements.
With less than a year left for an election, from professionals in Thiruvananthapuram to SC/ST community members in Palakkad and cultural figures in Thrissur, Vijayan is trying to reach every section of society.
The LDF is strongly pushing the narrative that Kerala has changed significantly since 2016, the year Vijayan first took over the office, calling it the era of 'Nava Kerala' (New Kerala).
Major projects including the widening of national highways, the GAIL pipeline and the Edamon-Kochi power transmission line are being showcased as key achievements.
The recent inauguration of the Rs 8,800-crore Vizhinjam Seaport by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also highlighted by Vijayan as proof of turning Kerala's long-pending dreams into reality.
Despite facing criticism in his first term over allegations like the gold smuggling case, Vijayan's second term has remained relatively controversy-free. Within the CPI(M), he continues to hold strong influence, with the party already confirming that he will lead the 2026 election campaign.
As the countdown to the polls begins, the LDF is countuously working towards the development record in Vijayan's second term to meet public expectations and aim for a historic third term in office.

Over 8 lakh farmers have benefited from agri campaign so far
Lucknow: State agriculture minister Surya Pratap Shahi on Friday said that he has requested all MPs, MLAs and district panchayat presidents to ensure their participation in 'Vikasit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan which started from May 29 and will continue till June 12. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Addressing a press conference in Lok Bhawan, Shahi said that the aim of the campaign is to realize the vision of 'One Country, One Agriculture, One Team'. Under this campaign, farmers are being informed about the latest agricultural techniques, improved seeds, modern farming methods and govt schemes for Kharif crops. This campaign has been started on the initiative of the govt of India and is being operated with the cooperation of the institutes of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Krishi Vigyan Kendras, Agricultural Universities, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, and Cooperatives. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched this campaign in UP on May 29. The minister said that so far, programmes have been organized at a total of 4,959 places, in which 8,39,617 farmers have participated – including 6,48,449 men and 1,91,168 women. It is proposed to organize programs at a total of 10,125 sites. Shahi has participated in many events of the campaign, including the one in Lucknow, Bahraich, Deoria, Meerut, Hapur and Kanpur Nagar. At all the places, he directly communicated with scientists, departmental officials and hundreds of farmers and also planted trees. Under the campaign, 550 agricultural scientists and subject experts are training farmers according to their region, soil, weather and crop. This is an effort to implement the lab-to-land model at the ground level. To ensure timely sowing of Kharif 2025 and availability of improved seeds, the state govt has planned to distribute a total of 4,58,000 free minikits. The state govt has provided financial approval of a total of over Rs 410 crore for the successful implementation of this campaign.

Cabinet nod to Rs 1,113cr biotechnology devpt scheme
1 2 3 Bhubaneswar: The state cabinet, under the chairmanship of chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi, on Friday approved a comprehensive five-year biotechnology development scheme with an outlay of Rs 1,113.50 crore. The programme will be implemented from 2025-26 to 2029-30. The 'Development of Biotechnology' initiative, comprising 17 sub-schemes, aims to transform Odisha into a knowledge-driven bio-economy by leveraging the state's rich biodiversity and existing research infrastructure. "This scheme will create a robust ecosystem for innovation, incubation and investment in the biotechnology sector," a govt statement said. The programme aligns with the state's Industrial Policy Resolution (IPR) 2022, which identifies biotechnology as a thrust sector. The initiative complements the recently announced Odisha Biotechnology Policy, 2024, offering incentives for advanced infrastructure development and positioning the state as a biotechnology hub. The cabinet also gave its nod to modalities of the Mukhyamantri Sahari Bikash Yojana (MSBY), with a massive outlay of Rs 6,000 crore over five years. The scheme, aligned with the state's "Viksit Odisha@2036 vision", aims to revolutionise urban infrastructure and boost revenue generation across cities. For the initial year (2025-26), the state has allocated Rs 1,100 crore in the last budget. The scheme, scheduled to run from 2025-26 to 2029-30, will focus on four key areas — urban infrastructure development, wage employment, water body development and animal welfare. Under the infrastructure component, the scheme will develop various facilities, including kalyan mandaps and multi-purpose halls, market complexes and vending zones, roads, drains, and parking facilities and EV charging stations, among others. The cabinet also gave its nod to exempt land premium of Rs 2.60 crore for lease of a piece of land to Narcotics Control Bureau for construction of its building.
