Ellen DeGeneres suffers heartbreaking loss after leaving Hollywood
Ellen DeGeneres recently suffered a heartbreaking loss after fleeing Hollywood for a quieter life in the English countryside following her toxic workplace scandal.
Last week, the former talk show host, 67, revealed on Instagram that her and her wife Portia de Rossi's beloved rescue dog Augie recently died.
DeGeneres rescued the pooch more than a decade ago and he was one of three dogs owned by the celebrity couple, who have been married since 2008.
'We had to say goodbye to Augie yesterday,' DeGeneres — who recently debuted a new look — announced on Friday, May 16.
'We rescued him 12 years ago and he was so grateful. He gave us so much love. He will be missed. There will never be another like him.'
Along with her heartfelt words, DeGeneres shared a slideshow of photos of Augie, a Beagle-Chihuahua mix, taken through the years.

Several of the snaps showed the tiny dog cuddling with Portia or sunning outside at the sprawling $32 million Montecito mansion that DeGeneres offloaded in 2024.
Days later, DeGeneres returned to Instagram to thank her 136million followers for their 'kind messages.'
She also uploaded a never before seen video of herself and Portia with Augie that was recorded just weeks before his death.
The video showed the senior dog sleeping peacefully in Portia's lap as DeGeneres spoke about her skincare line, Kind Science By Ellen.
'Thank you for all of your kind messages about Augie,' the star wrote. 'We filmed this last month and planned to post it today.
'I don't care what Portia says, please don't call me the Deal Queen. We love you, Augie.'
Portia has yet to publicly comment on Augie's death but the Arrested Development star, 52, is not active on social media like DeGeneres.
The couple, who do not have children together, have been proud dog parents for many years.

Along with Augie, they own a Poodle-Maltese mix named Kid and a purebred Poodle named Mrs. Wallis Browning.
Back in 2023, DeGeneres shared photos of Augie, Kid and Mrs. Wallis Browning in honor of National Pet Day.
She captioned the post: 'Happy #NationalPetDay to this crew,' and added a heart emoji.
Along with their dogs, DeGeneres and her actress wife also have two tuxedo cats named George and Chairman.
Back in 2020, their pet brood became smaller following the loss of both Charlie the cat and Wolf the dog.
DeGeneres is a well-known animal lover and even has a line of pet toys, beds, dresses, tees, tank tops, and sweatshirts called ED by Ellen DeGeneres.
However it appears the line, which was sold at PetSmart, is no longer in production.
DeGeneres' recent family tragedy comes two weeks after she shocked fans by debuting a brand new hairstyle — after decades of rocking a blonde pixie cut.
She did so by sharing footage of herself mowing the grass at her and Portia's new home in the English country side.
In the clip, DeGeneres sat on top of a yellow mower and revealed that she has ditched her signature blonde locks for a brunette shade.
The star could be seen steering the mower through a large field as a layer of gray clouds filled the sky.
Text was added towards the bottom of the reel which read, 'How it started.' The video then cut to Ellen being assisted by an individual after the machine seemingly broke down on a steep hill.
The clip concluded as more text popped up onto the screen which said, 'How it ended.'
The comedian also penned in the caption: 'Portia thought it would be fun to film my first time on the mower. She was right.'
The couple moved to the U.K. following Donald Trump's presidential win late last year in November.
They were recently forced to relocate to a different property near Oxfordshire after their Cotswolds home suffered severe flooding shortly after moving in.
DeGeneres previously gave fans a rare look at her new life in England to her 136 million followers.
Last month in April, she snapped a photo while standing behind Portia as they looked out at the scenic view of the countryside and a double rainbow following a rainfall.
'3 things that make me happy: My Wife A Rainbow And my wife taking a photograph of a Rainbow,' she wrote.
Back in 2020, DeGeneres was embroiled in controversy after being accused of creating a toxic work environment - and later issued an apology.
After nearly two decades of being on the air, The Ellen Degeneres Show also came to an end just two years later in 2022.
She previously told The Hollywood Reporter, 'I have to just trust that whatever happened during that time, which was obviously very, very difficult, happened for a reason.
'I think that I learned a lot, and there were some things that came up that I was shocked and surprised by. It was eye-opening, but I just trust that that had to happen.'
She stepped in front of the camera once again for her 2024 Netflix special titled Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval.
However upon its release, the project garnered mainly mixed to negative reviews and garnered a score of 33% on Rotten Tomatoes.
A few months earlier in March of this year, Ellen took the big step of listing her Montecito property for $4,995,000.
Less than two weeks later, the star's home sold for over the asking price at $5.2 million.
People reported at the time that the two-bedroom, two-bathroom abode quickly went into escrow after receiving 'multiple offers within two days of hitting the market.'
And back in January, Ellen and Portia had put an additional Montecito property on the market for $29.9 million.
The couple opted to move into an $18 million house in the Cotswolds area in the U.K. late last year.
The reason the pair chose to relocate to the British countryside rather than Portia's home country of Australia was soon revealed.
A source explained to New Idea, 'Ellen wants to continue with her comedy work, and there is a huge scene in Britain.
'Sitting back and chilling on a beach in Australia is for when she's ready to retire and Ellen's not there yet.'
But after the move, their six-bedroom Cotswolds home was met with severe flooding due to Storm Bert.
An insider informed MailOnline, 'Ellen and Portia have had several issues with the place they initially moved into.
'First there was the flooding, of course, then there was an issue with some locals complaining about some building work carried out at the property.'
DeGeneres and Portia have since moved to a different property which is only a 30 minute drive from the original home that they had bought.
A source recently told DailyMail.com: 'The house is a real Grand Designs number - and it's plain that Ellen and Portia are loving it.'
They added, 'Everything has been done very discreetly so it's not clear what the terms of the deal was but it seems that it has recently changed hands for not much less than they paid for their previous place.
'To buy two properties for eight figure sums in the space of a few months really is unusual, even given the many multi-millionaires around here.'
The source continued, 'And at even a conservative estimate it must have cost Ellen hundreds of thousands of pounds in fees and costs to change her mind so dramatically - perhaps millions.'

Aggie Beever-Jones can become the poster girl for England's next generation, writes TARA ANSON-WALSH
There's a new kit, a 'new England' and now a new star on the scene. At 21, Aggie Beever-Jones has been waiting in the wings, overshadowed as fellow young Lionesses Grace Clinton and Michelle Agyemang made the headlines. At 19, Agyemang even marked her debut last month with a goal just 41 seconds after coming on. But on Friday night everything changed. An injury to Alessia Russo opened the door and Beever-Jones seized the opportunity, delivering a dazzling first-half hat-trick on her first England appearance at Wembley. A performance that was not only emphatic but the culmination of everything she's worked for. 'As cliche as it sounds, Sarina (Wiegman) said, 'It's a new kit, new England today. Go out there and put a graft in',' Beever-Jones said after the match. Beever-Jones made a statement in England's 6-0 thrashing of Portugal - she's good enough to become the poster girl for the next generation She did more than graft — she announced herself on just her third start in an England shirt, making it impossible for Wiegman to leave her out of her plans. Her performance on Friday will come as no surprise to Chelsea fans who have been clamouring to see more of the Cobham graduate, knowing she had grown up near the training ground in Surrey. After two seasons on loan at Bristol City then at Everton, Beever-Jones returned to Emma Hayes' Chelsea side last season where she impressed despite her minutes being carefully managed. This season under Sonia Bompastor, Beever-Jones has gone from strength to strength. Capable of playing across the forward line, she has been the French coach's Swiss army knife as injuries to Sam Kerr, Lauren James and Mayra Ramirez threatened to blunt Chelsea's attack. There have been two stand-out moments in the last few weeks, which both came against Liverpool. The first was a meeting in the FA Cup semi-final, where Chelsea were being held to a frustrating draw when Beever-Jones popped up in added time to head home the winning goal and book their spot at Wembley. Then, in the last game of the league season, with nerves radiating around the team as, again, Chelsea were being held to a draw and their invincible season lay at risk, in the 91st minute Beever-Jones picked up the ball from deep. She dribbled at speed into the Liverpool penalty area before slotting in at the near post to confirm a WSL points record for the Blues. A player for the key moments, on Friday Beever-Jones came to Wiegman's rescue with a hat-trick when the Dutch coach needed to silence the critics more than ever. Characteristically prescient, Hayes said of the forward last year: 'Aggie Beever-Jones — don't forget that name. She's going to be a legend not just for Chelsea but for England.' There certainly won't be anyone forgetting her name now.

Conclave author reveals Ralph Fiennes was third choice for lead role in Oscar nominated film - behind two other A-list Hollywood actors
His acclaimed performance as a liberal cardinal in Conclave secured him an Oscar nomination – but Ralph Fiennes was not the first choice for the part. Both Hollywood legend Robert de Niro and Spanish star Javier Bardem were in line to take the lead role, author Robert Harris has revealed. But negotiations with both actors' representative broke down, opening the way for 62-year-old Fiennes. His casting also meant a change to his character. In Harris's original 2016 novel, the dean of the council of cardinals was an Italian called Jacopo Baldassare Lomeli. But once Fiennes was cast, he became the English Cardinal Thomas Lawrence. The author told the Hay-on-Wye literary festival: 'For a long time, Robert De Niro was supposed to play the Fiennes role, but that fell through, and then Javier Bardem was supposed to do it.' But again a deal could not be struck, so producers turned to Fiennes, best known for playing evil Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter blockbusters and M in the Bond films. It was Fiennes and director Edward Berger who decided to change the character's nationality, Harris revealed. 'They came to lunch and told me they wanted to change the nationality of Cardinal Lomeli, because Ralph wanted to play an Englishman. I looked across the table and thought, ''Do I really want to lose Ralph Fiennes?'' And of course, it doesn't make any difference at all.' Harris – whose other bestselling novels include Fatherland and Enigma – also told the Hay audience that film producers had been circling around his novel before he had finished writing it. But after the initial clamour, the executives decided to hold back the film's release – which turned out to be fortuitous as it ended up in cinemas just before the real Vatican conclave to select Pope Francis's successor. Harris, 68, said: 'They sat on it for a year to prevent it being swamped by other films, which was a stroke of genius as it got a lot of attention. There was this rolling interest in conclaves, and I found myself peculiarly having written a primer on conclaves.' Among those who watched the film this year was American Cardinal Robert Prevost, who saw it just before the conclave voted him to become Pope, subsequently taking the name Leo XIV. Conclave, which also starred Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow and Isabella Rossellini, was nominated for eight Academy Awards, but secured only the Oscar for best adapted screenplay for Peter Straughan's script. Two Oscar voters later told trade magazine Variety that they hadn't backed Fiennes as they wrongly believed he had won the award before.
