Celebi says arbitration application dismissed in India, to appeal in higher court

Mint03-06-2025
Celebi Ground Handling India's arbitration application for interim measures against Adani Ahmedabad International Airport over the cancellation of security permits was dismissed, according to exchange filing by its Turkish parent company. The company said it will appeal to the Supreme Court.
Bureau of Civil Aviation Safety (BCAS) on May 15 revoked the security clearance, days after Turkey backed Pakistan and condemned India's strikes on terror camps in the neighbouring country.
"The arbitration application filed by our company, Celebi Ground Handling India Pvt Ltd, in which our company owns 61% of the capital, against Adani Ahmedabad International Airport Limited in the Ahmedabad Commercial Court on 27.05.2025, seeking interim measures due to the cancellation of security clearances by the Civil Aviation Security Bureau in relation to its operations at Ahmedabad International Airport, was rejected on 02.06.2025," said the company.
The Bombay High Court on May 26, temporarily restrained Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) from finalising tenders for ground and bridge handling services. The court ruled that the temporary halt will continue until Turkish firm Celebi's plea challenging the termination of its contract is heard when the court reopens in June.
This interim order was issued by a vacation bench of Justice Somasekhar Sundaresan. The court order bars MIAL from taking any final decision on tenders floated on May 17 for a new ground handling agency.
The revocation of security clearance of Celebi came amid backlash in India over Turkey's support to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor.
The company had moved the High Court last week against revocation of its security clearance and subsequent termination of its contract with MIAL.
Celebi's plea was mentioned before Justice Sundaresan seeking urgent relief against any decision on the tenders issued by MIAL on May 17.
The court said no final decision shall be taken on the tenders till the pleas filed by Celebi are heard post reopening of the court in June. Turkiye-based airport ground handling services major Celebi's subsidiary had moved HC earlier this month against revocation of its security clearance and subsequent termination of its contract with MIAL.

NGT asks for pond-wise data after admin report in Gautam Budh Nagar

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the district administration to submit a more detailed, tehsil-wise report on the original area and extent of encroachment on water bodies in Gautam Budh Nagar. The report must include ownership details, geographic coordinates, and original area based on 1359 fasli land records. NGT asks for pond-wise data after admin report in Gautam Budh Nagar This directive followed the administration's submission on July 15 of a tehsil-wise summary, which the tribunal found inadequate. NGT granted an additional three weeks to compile complete data for each pond. The hearing took place on July 17 before an NGT bench comprising chairperson justice Prakash Shrivastava and expert member A Senthil Vel. The case concerns a petition filed by Noida-based applicant Abhisht Kusum Gupta against the Uttar Pradesh government and others. Representing district magistrate Manish Kumar Verma, additional advocate general Garima Prasadh submitted a compliance report dated July 15. This report was filed in continuation of NGT's order from March 19, which had directed the DM to verify the original area of each pond using 1359 Fasli land records and identify encroachments. According to the district administration, Gautam Budh Nagar has 1,018 ponds across three tehsils—Dadri, Sadar, and Jewar. Their total original area, based on Fasli records, is 461.8107 hectares, with 49.9941 hectares currently encroached. A tehsil-wise breakdown from the report shows that Dadri has 480 ponds across 227.5292 hectares of which 16.922 hectares are encroached upon. Sadar has 245 ponds across 111.2835 hectares of which 30.2558 hectares are encroached, and Jewar has 293 ponds across 122.9980 hectares of which 2.8163 hectares are encroached However, the tribunal noted that the compliance report lacked specific details for each pond, such as its exact area and the portion under encroachment. The bench gave the administration three more weeks to submit a comprehensive, tehsil-wise report with full particulars. 'Though the report discloses the total area of all ponds according to 1359 Fasli and the total encroached area, it does not include details for each individual pond,' the NGT bench observed. Other respondents, including the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida), submitted action-taken reports. Officials from the Greater Noida authority also submitted a report, but NGT said it was filed late and has not yet been placed on record. The Noida authority has yet to submit its response and was given three more weeks to do so. The next hearing is scheduled for October 17.

On UP minister Dara Singh Chauhan's b'day, deputy CMs Maurya and Pathak root for 2017 replay in 2027

As Uttar Pradesh moves closer to assembly elections, deputy chief ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak on Friday appealed for ensuring a repeat of the Bharatiya Janata Party's 2017 performance in the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. They made the appeal at the birthday celebrations of prison minister Dara Singh Chauhan. The BJP alone had won 312 seats in the 403-member assembly during the 2017 polls. (Deepak Gupta/HT Photo) Members of the Chauhan community were present at the venue, Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, in large numbers for the 'Sankalp Diwas' event. State BJP president Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary, deputy CMs Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak arrived at the venue together. Members of the Nonia caste, an OBC category to which Dara Singh Chauhan belongs, came in large numbers from across the state. Pathak was first to address the gathering after Chauhan's welcome address and Chaudhary's non-political speech that was confined to extending birthday wishes to Dara Singh Chauhan. Pathak not only attacked Samajwadi Party but also exhorted the gathering to take a 'sankalp' (oath) to vote for the BJP in the forthcoming assembly polls in 2027. 'In the Samajwadi Party government, traders were most vulnerable. There was no power supply and goons ruled the roost,' Pathak said. He praised the Chauhan community and contributions made by them in the freedom struggle from 1857 to 1947. 'In 2027, you will vote against the Samajwadi Party. Take sankalp (oath). Ensure a repeat of 2017 in 2027,' Pathak exhorted the gathering. Pathak's appeal was greeted by a big round of applause from the gathering. Maurya, whose speech was centered around various schemes launched by PM Narendra Modi for the poor, also attacked the Samajwadi Party. 'You have to ensure a repeat of 2017 (assembly poll result) in 2027,' he said. 'PM Narendra Modi's decision of caste census has left the opposition speechless,' Maurya said. He also mentioned the Indian armed forces' success during Operation Sindoor.
