Blue Jays capitalize on error-laden Yankees
The Yankees committed four errors and other uncredited misplays in the rubber match of a three-game series as the Blue Jays rebuilt their lead over the Yankees in the American League East to four games.
Bassitt (11-4) allowed four runs (three earned), three hits and no walks in 7 1/3 innings.
Aaron Judge hit a two-run home run and Jasson Dominguez and Anthony Volpe hit solo shots for the Yankees.
Dominguez's liner to right opened the scoring in the second.
Yankees starter Max Fried (11-4) retired his first seven batters before running into trouble. George Springer looped a one-out single to center and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. scorched an RBI double into the left-field corner. Alejandro Kirk walked and Addison Barger loaded the bases on an infield hit to third. Ernie Clement lined a single to center to give Toronto a 2-1 lead.
Volpe homered to left center with one out in the fifth.
Toronto scored twice in the home fifth without a hit. Davis Schneider and Springer walked and advanced on a wild pitch. Both scored when Fried fielded Guerrero's squibber up the third-base line and made an errant throw to catcher J.C. Escarra.
The Yankees tied the game in the sixth. Trent Grisham reached second on Guerrero's error on a grounder to first. Judge launched a sinker over the wall in right center to move into sixth on the all-time Yankees list with 352 homers.
Toronto regained the lead in the bottom of the inning. Clement tripled when right fielder Cody Bellinger lost his fly ball in the twilight. Myles Straw doubled into the left-field corner to chase Fried, who appeared to be having trouble with a blister that forced him out of his previous start on July 12. With Jonathan Loaisiga pitching, Ben Rice's error on pinch hitter Will Wagner's grounder to first allowed Straw to score.
Fried gave up six runs (four earned), six hits and three walks with three strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone and pitching coach Matt Blake were ejected in the seventh after Volpe was called out on strikes.
Toronto added two insurance runs in the seventh when Guerrero singled and Bichette homered against Scott Effross.

Shohei hits 40th homer, Blake Snell fans 10 as Dodgers rout Blue Jays
August 10 - Blake Snell struck out 10 over five shutout innings and Shohei Ohtani blasted his 40th home run of the season to boost the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 9-1 win over the visiting Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday evening. Max Muncy also homered and singled, and Andy Pages contributed two hits and two RBIs for Los Angeles, which will try for a three-game sweep of the American League East leaders on Sunday. Snell (2-1) allowed three hits and walked three in his second game back following a four-month absence with an injury to his throwing shoulder. After the two-time Cy Young Award winner was lifted after 90 pitches, Brock Stewart, Jack Dreyer and Alexis Diaz combined to allow one run over the final four innings. Ernie Clement spoiled the shutout with a solo homer in the eighth for the Blue Jays, who had won three in a row heading into the series. Toronto right-hander Chris Bassitt (11-6) allowed three runs on six hits over 4 2/3 innings, with two strikeouts and two walks. Freddie Freeman walked to lead off the fourth and Muncy went the other way with a sinker, clearing the fence in the left-field corner for a two-run homer and a 2-0 lead. Ohtani blasted his home run to straightaway center with one out in the fifth to stretch it to 3-0. The Dodgers scored six runs in the sixth, loading the bases with no outs in the sixth before Dalton Rushing lined a two-run single up the middle for a 5-0 lead. After an intentional walk to Ohtani, Mookie Betts lined a single off the glove of Toronto third baseman Buddy Kennedy, scoring two more runs for a 7-0 lead. Pages then came up with the bases full and two outs in the inning and doubled down the third-base line to make it 9-0. Snell struck out the first two batters of the game on six pitches and needed just nine pitches to retire the side in order. Kennedy hit a ground-rule double into the stands in the left-field corner to lead off the third and Davis Schneider walked with one out, but Snell struck out two batters in the inning to help him escape the jam. Snell walked two batters in the fourth, but struck out two more to strand both. --Field Level Media

Ramon Laureano's RBI single in 10th lifts Padres past Red Sox
August 10 - Ramon Laureano's RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning Saturday night lifted the San Diego Padres to a 5-4 win over the visiting Boston Red Sox. Xander Bogaerts was placed on second to start the inning and reliever Garrett Whitlock (5-2) issued an intentional walk to Ryan O'Hearn. Laureano chopped the first pitch over the head of third baseman Alex Bregman and Bogaerts easily beat Roman Anthony's throw home. Jason Adam (7-3) stranded a pair of runners in the top of the 10th, inducing an inning-ending fielder's choice grounder from Ceddanne Rafaela to earn the win. Boston forced extra innings when Anthony slashed a ground-rule double to left-center off MLB saves leader Robert Suarez in the ninth that scored Rafaela. He legged out an infield hit to start the inning and swiped second. San Diego went ahead in the fifth with two runs when Boston starter Lucas Giolito lost the strike zone, issuing four straight two-out walks after a leadoff single by Fernando Tatis Jr. Free passes to O'Hearn and Laureano drove in the tying and go-ahead runs. Giolito allowed five hits and four runs in 4 2/3 innings, walking six and striking out one. San Diego starter Michael King lasted two-plus innings and 57 pitches, permitting two runs on four hits and two walks with a strikeout. Making his first start since May 18 after a thoracic nerve issue sidelined him for nearly three months, King trailed 1-0 by the game's third batter. Bregman lined the first of his two doubles and scored on Jarren Duran's single to center. Bogaerts evened the score in the second with his 10th homer, a liner into the seats in left that traveled an estimated 358 feet. The Red Sox regained the lead in the third with two runs as reliever Wandy Peralta balked home Bregman, who led off with his second double, and Masataka Yoshida's fielder's choice grounder scored Trevor Story. The Padres got a run back in their half of the third as Bogaerts looped a two-out RBI single to center, scoring Luis Arraez. --Field Level Media

Geraldo Perdomo doubled with one out in the ninth off Jimmy Herget (0-2) and scored on Gurriel's double, which one-hopped the wall in left field and gave rookie right-hander Andrew Hoffman (1-0) his first major league win in his sixth appearance. Arizona starter Eduardo Rodriguez gave up five runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings, with five walks and two strikeouts. Three of his walks scored. Colorado starter Bradley Blalock gave up five runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings, with four strikeouts and three walks. Two of his three walks scored. The D-Backs took a 1-0 lead on Gurriel's single in the first before the Rockies scored the next four for a 4-1 lead. Doyle hit a two-run homer and Kyle Farmer singled in a run in the second. Tovar walked, stole second and scored on rookie Warming Bernabel's single in the third. Marte doubled in a run and Gurriel hit a sacrifice fly as the D-Backs cut the deficit to 4-3 in the third. Carroll's homer triggered a two-run fifth capped by Adrian Del Castillo's two-out, run-scoring double for a 5-4 lead. Rodriguez, in line for the victory, walked Farmer with one out in the sixth before being replaced by Juan Burgos, who gave up Tovar's single to tie the game at 5-5. --Field Level Media
