2026 Set To Be Huge Year For Genesis On And Off The Track
With the GMR-001 Hypercar in view, Team Principal Cyril Abiteboul announced new appointments to the team's senior leadership roles. Anouck Abadie moves into the role of Team Manager, Justin Taylor is the team's Chief Engineer and Gabriele Tarquini, the touring car champion, is the new Sporting Director.
Taylor said: 'Joining Genesis Magma Racing is very exciting for me. Coming onboard in the Chief Engineer role allows me a chance to develop our team and the GMR-001 Hypercar from the ground up, to be ready for the 2026 WEC season and beyond.
'I bring with me a little bit of endurance racing experience, this is my 18th year at Le Mans. My goal is to bring that experience and everything that I've learnt over those 18 attempts here to this project to help us climb the mountain. If I'm honest, my goal is to push myself and my colleagues to see how far we can push this thing if we put our minds to it.'
Abiteboul added: 'Anouck, Justin and Gabriele are fantastic additions to the Genesis Magma Racing team. Their experience in motorsport will be essential to the successful operation of the team and car through our testing this year as we prepare to race in the FIA World Endurance Championship next year.'
The GMR-001 Hypercar that has been revealed is said to be close to the final race-ready version that's expected to join the track next year. At this stage, Abiteboul explained the car is undergoing endurance dyno testing to fine tune the characteristics of the engine and gearbox. The hypercar features a V8 engine which is a combination of two of the group's 1.6-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engines.
To support Genesis Magma Racing's development the team will be located at Le Castellet, France, not far from supplier Oreca's factory. Abiteboul said: 'The expansion of Hyundai Motorsport is essential to create a strong foundation of Genesis Magma Racing. The team is being created from strong parts wherever we find them. A strong chassis from Oreca, an ideal race base location in Le Castellet, experienced people from around motorsport and of course the best of the influences from Korean culture to drive us all forward at hyperspeed.'
This year's Le Mans 24 hour race was an opportunity for the team to learn valuable insights to take into next year. The driving team comprises Jamie Chadwick, Mathys Jaubert and André Lotterer. The team has already seen great success in the European Le Mans Series with a LMP2 class win at the season opener in Barcelona and an overall win in Le Castellet.
Following the brand's launch in Europe in 2021, five years later, it's ready to expand to new markets. In addition to the UK, Germany, and Switzerland, Genesis plans to launch in France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands with customer deliveries starting in 2026. Customers in these four new markets will be able to purchase three electric models, the GV60, Electrified GV70 and Electrified G80, all of which have recently been updated.
'Our entry into these important markets is a pivotal moment for Genesis. We are moving now to deepen our long-term presence and commitment across Europe. This is the most significant market expansion since we launched in Europe in 2021 and is the start of our next phase of measured, strategic growth, and sporting brand direction' said Xavier Martinet, Managing Director at Genesis Motor Europe.
'Genesis' distinctive electric models have strong European appeal and the demand is growing. With these new markets, and our audacious approach to motorsport, we look forward to introducing new customers to our design-driven performance brand.'

Xiaomi Plans Europe Foray in 2027 After EV Sales Gains Pace
(Bloomberg) -- Xiaomi Corp. intends to sell its first electric vehicle in Europe by 2027, declaring plans to take on Tesla Inc. and BYD Co. globally after gaining traction with its year-old Chinese EV business. President Lu Weibing shed more light on the company's expansion plans after reporting a 31% rise in quarterly revenue, riding the successful launch of its second EV over the summer. That helped counter slowing demand for smartphones. Why New York City Has a Fleet of New EVs From a Dead Carmaker Chicago Schools Seeks $1 Billion of Short-Term Debt as Cash Gone A Photographer's Pipe Dream: Capturing New York's Vast Water System Trump Takes Second Swing at Cutting Housing Assistance for Immigrants A London Apartment Tower With Echoes of Victorian Rail and Ancient Rome Xiaomi has previously described ambitions to go global, though it's never specified a target market. While Europe is a common destination for Chinese EV makers seeking to tap a more lucrative arena, considering they can often sell their cars with higher margins there, they do face punitive tariffs. Were Xiaomi to export its EVs to Europe, it would likely be subject to tariffs of up to 48%, including a base 10% import duty and additional countervailing levies of around 35% to 38%. Those measures were imposed by the European Union in response to what it deems unfair state subsidies provided to Chinese EV makers, which the bloc argues distorts market competition and threatens local manufacturers. Chinese EV makers also face tariffs of 100% if they want to sell their cars in the US. That's effectively shut them entirely out of the market. Read: Europe Warms to China's Investments in Face of US Tariffs Regardless, strong demand for the YU7 sport utility vehicle, which co-founder Lei Jun released at the end of June, is propelling Xiaomi's $10 billion gamble on the increasingly crowded EV arena. The company aims to become one of the world's top five carmakers within 15 to 20 years, despite a production crunch that's testing its ability to scale up. Wait times for the SUV have stretched to more than a year. 'The business model we have developed in China can also apply in overseas market when we get into Europe,' Lu told analysts on a call. 'We're doing the research and preparation. So far we have not got the specific product plan yet.' Revenue climbed to 116 billion yuan ($16.2 billion) in the June quarter, just edging past average analyst estimates. The tech giant delivered 81,302 cars, taking the total to more than 157,000 in the first half — on track to surpass 2024's haul. But smartphones — its original and largest business — slid 2.1% and missed the average projection by about 5%. While Xiaomi doesn't expect smartphones to see much growth this year, the company's goal is to increase its market share in China by 1% every year, Lu told reporters on a post-earnings call Tuesday. It expects growth of about 5 to 6 percentage points in shipments this year to 175 million devices, executives said. Losses from the EV division narrowed to about 300 million yuan during the period. Lei said at an investor meeting in June that the automaking venture is expected to turn profitable in the second half of this year. Xiaomi has gained some $120 billion of market value over the past year, galvanized by its drive into EVs that's gained momentum against much larger and more experienced rivals. The company seems to have shaken off a fatal accident involving one of its SU7 sedans in March, which had its Autopilot turned on. The crash prompted regulators to rein in the deployment of advanced driver assistance technology nationwide. The Chinese government also intervened in June to try to stop a long-running price war that has squeezed margins all along the auto supply chain. Xiaomi has avoided getting embroiled in the discounting thanks in large part to demand for its vehicles remaining very high. Xiaomi's overall net income roughly doubled to 11.9 billion yuan, helped by fair value gains on financial instruments. Still, the stock is now trading at more expensive valuations than BYD as well as global smartphone rival Samsung Electronics Co. What Bloomberg Intelligence Says Xiaomi's robust 3.2 percentage point EV gross margin sequential growth in 2Q reflects improving economies of scale and a favorable product-mix shift, helping together with solid internet-of-things growth to offset smartphone headwinds. The ramp-up of Xiaomi's second EV factory and a rising sales mix of the YU7 SUV could boost margin, supporting breakeven in the EV segment by end-2025 and potentially driving a 2025-26 profit beat. - Steven Tseng and Sean Chen Click here for the research. Xiaomi is grappling with a slowdown in its core business and sluggish consumer spending. Along with rivals Apple Inc. and Huawei Technologies Co., it's been offering steep discounts over the big June shopping festival in an attempt to lure shoppers, pressuring margins. AI and chip design is another arena where Xiaomi is ramping up resources. The Beijing-based firm unveiled a 3-nanometer chip called the Xring O1 chip, designed to power devices including the Tablet 7 Ultra. Lei said the company would invest $7 billion this decade into semiconductors. (Updates throughout with context, comments from press call.) Watch: Luka Doncic highlights from Slovenia's friendly match on Monday
After suffering an injury scare in Slovenia's friendly match on Saturday in advance of EuroBasket 2025, Luka Doncic was back on the court for the country's penultimate friendly on Tuesday versus Great Britain. He didn't seem to show any sign that he had narrowly avoided a serious knee injury just three days prior. While he hit just two of his 11 3-point attempts, he ended up with 28 points, 10 assists, six rebounds, three steals and one block in an easy 93-81 win for Slovenia. Once again, as he did in his previous two appearances, he looked svelte and fit, not to mention very mobile. Slovenia's final tune-up game will be this Thursday against Serbia. Its first official contest of EuroBasket 2025 will take place on Thursday, Aug. 28, when it takes on Poland. Knebworth 2024 hint as Oasis star Noel Gallagher heaps praise on brother Liam
Noel Gallagher has given his inaugural interview since the commencement of the Oasis reunion tour, lauding his brother Liam for "smashing it" while confessing that his own legs "turned to jelly" on the opening night. He remained tight-lipped when questioned about the likelihood of the band performing at Knebworth next year, a milestone concert that many fans are eagerly anticipating and now hope might be possible. The 58 year old guitarist and Oasis songwriter chatted with his mates Andy Goldstein and Darren Bent on TalkSport about his favourite football team, Manchester City, before the conversation shifted to the monumental tour. This follows after Peggy Gallagher was spotted with a big star at an Oasis gig as she finally gets to see her sons' reunion tour. READ MORE: Nottingham Forest v Brentford player ratings as sensational duo on a different level in super win READ MORE: Nottingham Forest transfer need is clear but one move won't be beaten amid 'telepathic' beauty Regarding the reunion with Liam, Noel expressed: "I've been completely blown away. It's difficult to put into words. It's kind of every night is the crowd's first night, so every night has kinda got the same energy to it. But it's been truly amazing. I'm not usually short for words, but I can't really answer." Reflecting on the first night in Cardiff, the band's initial gig in nearly two decades, he added: "We're not really a band who kind of have huddles before we go on or anything like that.", reports the Mirror. "I can't speak for anywhere else, but for me personally, I grossly underestimated what I was getting into. After about five minutes I was like can I just go back to the dressing room and start this again. "I don't mind telling you my legs went to jelly about halfway through the second song and I could have done with going back. It has been an amazing thing." Noel then shared some warm words about his brother Liam. The duo have made a habit of walking out hand-in-hand for every show in Dublin, Edinburgh, London, their hometown of Wembley, and the opening weekend in Cardiff. Speaking about their on-stage embraces, he said: "We are not those kinda guys. It is great just to be back with Bonehead and Liam and just be doing it again. I guess when it is all said and done we will reflect on it. It's good being back in the band with Liam, I forgot how funny he was!". Commenting on Liam's universally praised vocals, he said: "Liam is smashing it, I am proud of him. Having fronted a band for 16 years I know how hard that is. I couldn't do the stadium thing like he does, I have gotta say man I look at him and think 'good for you mate'." When asked about Knebworth or the end of the tour, Noel responded with a chuckle: "Lets talk about football." He discussed Manchester City's recent victory and expressed his excitement for Oasis' upcoming performance at the River Plate stadium in Argentina this November. He added: "It's the penultimate show, and we've played there a few times before. Without a doubt, Argentina is one of our top five favourite places to perform worldwide. "We are going to Toronto on Friday and then we're in the States for the best part of a month and then Mexico and then back for two more Wembleys. "When it all started there were a few people who I thought would come looking for tickets but after the first gig my phone exploded. Once they had seen it online there was a mad scramble for it." He confessed it was extraordinary to witness countless supporters outside the venues singing along to the performances and remarked: "Something else is happening that we haven't put our fingers on yet." Oasis are touring for the first time in 16 years and have now finished their UK and Ireland dates apart from two additional Wembley performances when they return from America. Tickets became available last year and triggered extraordinary demand. The concerts, which kicked off in Cardiff on July 4, have garnered glowing reviews across the board and generated emotional moments both amongst audiences and on stage.
