British Soap Awards 'bomb threat' - stars forced to flee swanky ceremony

Daily Mirror3 days ago

The British Soap Awards came to a dramatic end last night after stars were asked to evacuate the building over an alleged bomb threat. The event was held at London's Hackney Empire with TV presenter Jane McDonald, actor Sir David Jason and Gavin and Stacey's Larry Lamb on hosting duty.
However, a source has exclusive told The Mirror that attendees were suddenly asked to leave the venue shortly before 1am after the event had reportedly received a bomb threat.
"We all got evacuated just before 1am. No reason was given at first and security came round and told us we had to leave immediately," our source said.
"As we all waited in the street outside, security told us there had been a bomb threat. We weren't allowed back in the building so people started making their way home."
In a video shared with The Mirror, some of TV's biggest soap stars can be seen waiting outside the venue as more evacuate - with the likes of EastEnders' Tameka Empson and former Hollyoaks star Emmett J Scanlan among them.
The Mirror has contacted ITV and the Metropolitan Police for comment.

EastEnders star hints at Celebrity Traitors drama after filming 'stressful' show

EastEnders actress Tameka Empson, who plays Kim Fox on the BBC soap, told The Mirror all about her 'stressful' but 'great' stint on Celebrity Traitors, teasing drama ahead Soap star Tameka Empson found Celebrity Traitors so "stressful" she can never look at a circular table ever again, after filming the dreaded Round Table scenes. "Can we get a square table, maybe an oval one," the EastEnders favourite joked with The Mirror at this year's British Soap Awards. But despite some tense moments, all to be revealed when the show launches this Autumn, the Kim Fox actress, who took a short break from the BBC soap to film Claudia Winkleman's hit competition series, said she had a "great time". ‌ Tameka, 48, can't wait to see it all unfold onscreen, hinting she wasn't there for some of the moments set to air. Perhaps this could tease an early banishment for the comedian, while she told us of her appearance on the show alongside the likes of Clare Balding, Stephen Fry and Jonathan Ross: "It's out of the bag now. I loved it. ‌ "What I would say is that when you watch it and then when you are in it, it's two completely different things. Oh my God." Letting out a nervous laugh, she went on: "It is brilliant, but equally it can be stressful. You are working out who is who. I had a great time." As we asked whether the several comedians taking part, herself included, brought a light-hearted feel to the show, she teased this was not the case, with it set to be just as dramatic as the civilian version. She told us: "Well you have got to wait and see. I am looking forward to seeing it as well actually. "When you are watching it you are seeing everything else too, but when you are in it you are not. So I am interested to see it all." It's then that she commented on the brutal Round Table scenes, suggesting things could get pretty tense this series. She quipped: "I can't look at a Round Table again, I'm like, 'Do we have a square or oval please?'. Never a round table again." With Tameka away from EastEnders for filming in Scotland, she teased when her character Kim does return there's emotional scenes ahead. She spilled: "There is going to be more joy now that Kim is back on the Square, and she is going to be a bit emotional. ‌ "I hope viewers understand her pain. Maybe I've said too much." Tameka also teased a return for presumed dead Vincent Hubbard, Kim's late husband played by Richard Blackwood, who vanished from the show in 2018. It was claimed a few years later that he'd been killed, but could he be making a return? Tameka teased: "If he turns up then he's got to turn up with something in his hands. It's been a long while now. Watch this space people." Tameka then confessed she'd like to see Kim have two men fighting over her like onscreen sister Denise Fox. During the 40th anniversary, viewers got to vote for who Denise ended up with out of Jack Branning and Ravi Gulati. The actress reckons Denise and Jack's reunion was perfect as the pair, who have worked together for years, are like "old slippers". She's now hoping she too will have a similar twist.

Hollyoaks Clare's downfall 'confirmed' as axed character returns for revenge

Hollyoaks' Tom Cunningham actor Ellis Hollins told The Mirror all about his return to the Channel 4 soap, and a possible showdown with enemy Clare Devine after years apart There could be the showdown of all showdowns on Hollyoaks very soon, with a huge return possibly leading to revenge. Actor Ellis Hollins spoke to The Mirror about his big comeback just months after his axe from the role of Tom Cunningham. Fans were gutted when Tom left the show after more than two decades. ‌ Just recently we saw the return of villain and show favourite Clare Devine, played by actress Gemma Bissix. Clare and Tom had quite the history, and now that might be revisited in dramatic upcoming episodes. ‌ Speaking exclusively to The Mirror at the British Soap Awards, Tom actor Ellis confirmed his return and confirmed there'd be scenes ahead of Tom's nemesis Clare. Clare terrorised Tom as a child, but now Tom may get his vengeance. Ellis told us: "It's very strange to come back at the same time as Clare. It's almost like they're gonna cross paths... but we'll see what happens." The actor vowed that if a showdown was to happen, Tom would be prepared this time now that he's grown up. But he also teased a twist fans might not expect. Ellis explained to us: "He was vulnerable and defenceless, and there was only so much he could do as a child. So it's gonna be very interesting now that Tom is grown up, and he can fend for himself if needs be. "She was the muscle back then so it's gonna be very interesting to see what storylines will come up with that and what the writers can invent for the two characters." On the past coming back to haunt them both, he went on: "I think there's a lot there they can work with. There's a lot of history." ‌ But Ellis wondered whether in a major twist, Tom and Clare could be on the same side. He shared: "I had wondered if we'd form a partnership, but I'm not too optimistic about something like that happening. We'll see what goes on down the line and whether our characters diverge, or if they'll hate each other even more." Asked if a final showdown could be on the way, he revealed: "To really have that second chance for Tom to have redemption against Clare is important for a lot of people, as well as for Tom himself. It's gonna be so interesting to see whether Tom can get his revenge on Clare and whether he bides his time, and how orchestrated it will be." It doesn't seem as though we will find out what Tom has been up to since he left the village months ago as part of the show changes. He told us: "It's interesting, I'd love to answer that but as far as I'm aware I don't know. It's not something that has been communicated about a flashback, as much as it would be very interesting to see what Tom has been up to." On what fans can expect from the soap's 30th anniversary later this year, he spilled: "When I got the call I was assuming it was something to do with the 30th, but it's still quite premature. So I'm hoping there's gonna be something related to it but maybe on the sidelines, like reacting to certain people and not being in a crash!" Hollyoaks is available to stream on Channel 4's streaming service now, while it also airs Mondays to Wednesdays on E4 at 7PM. * Follow Mirror Celebs and TV on TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Threads.

Speaking on the red carpet at the British Soap Awards, which is being screened on ITV1 tomorrow night at 8pm, she said: 'Obviously it's upsetting but also I'd been there for eight years, which is a long time to play a character, and I have absolutely loved being in the show. 'They gave me the opportunity to learn on the job and also now I am able take that onto other things that I do. 'Of course it's sad but at the same time it felt like a natural end, with the Taylors being gone, it kind of felt right. I'm now very excited about the future." Clair revealed how she took her character's iconic coat as a memento as well as the Walford Pride t-shirt she wore during the soap's first ever gay pride event. She said: "I have taken Bernie's coat. It was so iconic! And also the t-shirt that Bernie wore for Pride with 'Walford Pride' on it, little bits here and there. Also her badge when it was her birthday." The actress was keeping tight-lipped about the exact details of her exit, which she filmed last month, but teased that 'bad Bernie' will be back. She said: "My exit is very Bernie, and it's back to bad Bernie. It's very dramatic, and must-watch, I've already filmed my exit and it will play out later this summer." So could we see the return of your mum Karen? "I couldn't possibly say! Maybe, maybe not, you'll all have to watch." Clair celebrated with the rest of the Albert Square cast, who picked up a whooping eight gongs on the night, and is now planning her next move. Clair Norris looks worlds away from her character in stunning holiday snaps She said: "My plan is to work out what I want to do. EastEnders is the only thing I've ever done, so all I know is soap. 'I came from college and went straight into it. I think having a varied career, going into theatre would be great, and also, doing a drama would be great. I'm open to anything. 'I've just been on holiday which was great and the perfect timing. And now I'm back it's about getting cracking with show reels and self tapes." 3 Despite the sadness, Clair is now excited for what the future holds Credit: Getty
