Months after ruling out an Apex Legends 2, EA CEO says "an even bigger, more meaningful" Apex 2.0 is on the table after Battlefield 6
Months after ruling out Apex Legends 2 as a possibility, publisher EA now says that Apex 2.0 is planned to exist in the long-term future.
EA CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed as much via the company's most recent Q&A fiscal call when asked about the battle royale game's supposed underperformance. "We've had over 200 million people play the game," Wilson says, "however, the trajectory of the business of that franchise has not been headed in the direction that we have wanted for some time."
Wilson then states developer Respawn Entertainment is focusing on "three vectors" to get Apex Legends back on track. The first comes from supporting the "tens of millions of people" who play daily with smaller updates that cover "quality-of-life, anti-cheat, and all of the things that make the core experience great, as well as the creation of new content for that community."
The second supposed "phase" will apparently come in the form of "a more meaningful update of Apex as a broad game experience" - though, Wilson also says that this won't come out "on top of a Battlefield launch, and so, from a timing standpoint, our thinking right now is that would exist post-Battlefield." Battlefield 6 is set to release by April 2026, even though the publisher isn't opposed to delaying it in the midst of a very competitive year.
But EA wants to milk this cow in perpetuity and make sure it's a money-printer for the next "10, 20, 30 years and growing." Wilson then refers to these plans for "an even bigger, more meaningful update" as "an Apex 2.0, if you will," that'll come "on a longer-term horizon." The CEO adds: "This will not be the final incarnation of Apex."
It's an interesting revelation since EA said it wasn't interested in making an Overwatch 2-style follow-up to the shooter just a few months ago because "the version two thing has almost never been as successful as version one," and the company didn't want players to lose all the progress they've invested in. From my perspective, Wilson's missing the most crucial piece of this puzzle that'd surely turn Apex Legends' fortunes overnight: Titanfall 3.

Perhaps her biggest fashion hit came during her 2020 wedding to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, when Beatrice borrowed one of grandmother Queen Elizabeth's vintage evening dresses and modified it into a stunning wedding gown. Download iOS 26 now and upgrade your iPhone to the Liquid Glass look for free

The iPhone 17 won't be announced for at least another seven weeks but from today you can use the latest iOS 26 on your current iPhone and experience the new Liquid Glass design that was announced at WWDC. That's because Apple has just released the Public Beta versions of its '26 OS systems, allowing anyone to update to them. It's not just iPhones either. The Public Betas include iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS Tahoe, watchOS 26, and tvOS 26, so you can update your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac and Apple TV. This is the first major redesign of Apple's iOS system since 2013, which saw the flat look take shape in iOS 7. The new design features floating translucent buttons and boxes that work much like glass and feature a more rounded approach. iOS 26 offers more than just the Liquid Glass, though. There's a new lock screen with dynamic wallpaper, a new camera app, a call screening assistant, live translation, new maps features, a dedicated games app and much more. iPad and Mac users gain similar new features with more synchronicity between the two platforms, which makes the iPad feel more Mac-like. While the Apple Watch and Apple TV also get significant makeovers. These versions are very much still Beta versions, though, so they won't be perfect. You might find that some third-party apps don't work properly until they get an update, and the odd crash is entirely possible. For that reason, Apple suggests making a full backup of your device before downloading the update and not installing it on any device you rely heavily on. How to download the Public Beta of iOS 26 To try the Public Beta of iOS 26 you need to have the Beta Updates option selected in your update settings. Go to Settings > General > Software Update and from there, click on the Beta Updates option. Here you should now see an option for iOS 18 Public Beta and iOS 26 Public Beta. Select the iOS 26 option. Now you should see the option to download the Beta from the main Software Update screen. This is a large file (17.06GB), so you are best doing it from a Wi-fi connection if you don't want to rinse your data. You will also need to plug your phone into a charger to avoid the battery dying in the middle of an update. There will likely be regular updates to this Beta over the coming weeks, so if you're not confident or are updating your main device, it might be worth waiting a couple of weeks before downloading it. If you do download it, it's worth checking back for those updates too, as they should solve any niggles that the last version had. Note that older iPhone models, such as the iPhone XS and XR may not be compatible with this upgrade. You will also need either an iPhone 16 series phone or an iPhone 15 Pro / Pro Max model to access the Apple Intelligence features. How to update your iPad, Mac, Apple Watch or Apple TV to the Public Beta The way to update across all Apple devices is now very similar. On the iPad the process is identical to the iPhone process above. For Mac users, go to the Apple Menu > System Settings > Software Update and select the Beta Updates. For the Apple TV go to Settings > System > Software Updates, and for the Apple Watch, on your Watch app on your iPhone, go to General > Software Update and choose Beta Updates.

Apple CarPlay getting a useful new feature update in just a matter of weeks

With the public beta expected in the next couple of weeks, you'll be able to try these features for yourself. There's going to be a number of changes coming to Apple CarPlay with the arrival of iOS 26, as long as your iPhone is compatible. The headlines were stolen by CarPlay Ultra – the experience that takes over all the screens in your car – but there's another interesting feature coming to those who won't get CarPlay Ultra. You could get this feature in just a few weeks too, because Apple previously confirmed that the iOS 26 public beta would land in July – with reputable leaker Mark Gurman suggesting it could be available "around" 23 July. That's when you'll be able to update your phone (accepting the normal precaution with beta software) and experience the new features of Apple CarPlay. One of the useful new additions will be widgets. Widgets are now everywhere on Apple devices, having appeared on the iPhone with iOS 14 in 2020. Now they're coming to your car, as detailed by 9to5Mac. While widgets in CarPlay were first shown off as part of CarPlay Ultra (or CarPlay 2 as it was being called), it looks like everyone will benefit from them. You'll be able to enable the option within the Settings on your iPhone and it allows you to have widgets from your phone, not just from CarPlay apps. You'll then be able to have one or two stacks of widgets, so you'll have access to glanceable information about all manner of things. That might be weather, reminders or smart home information, for example. You'll be able to control the layout of the widgets and customise them, so they should be a useful addition to CarPlay. CarPlay features in iOS 26 Beyond widgets – and CarPlay Ultra (which will need car manufacturer support) – you'll also be able to change the background. In addition, the new Liquid Glass visuals from iOS 26 will also flow into CarPlay. There's more customisation for app icons too. There's a new compact view for incoming calls, as well as Live Activities, so you can keep track of things like sport scores or flights without being too distracted from the road. Live Activities will appear in the split view of CarPlay and sit in one corner of the screen. Mapping now has more intelligence, so should be able to warn you about delays, even if you haven't set a route. It will reportedly alert you simply based on the direction you're heading in. And when you're stopped, you'll also be able to play video, which could make those charging breaks more enjoyable. As I said, this could all be available with the iOS 26 beta in the coming weeks.
