was part of a politically motivated attempt to malign the Gandhi family and the party.
The ED had Thursday filed a chargesheet against Vadra, husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, in a money laundering case linked to alleged irregularities in a land deal at Shikohpur in Haryana.
"What has been done to Vadra, is to take revenge on a person and to target a party. It is done as part of an attempt to bring a bad name to the Vadra and Gandhi family. They will never be successful in it. There are courts," Kharge told reporters in Bengaluru.
"The trouble that is being given to Vadra is not right. We all support his good work."

Asked about the BJP accusing the Congress of supporting land jihad, Kharge said: "I don't know what land jihad is. If they want to take any action against me, let them do it. Whenever they take action, I will respond to it."
Later in the day, Kharge addressed a convention in Mysuru, where development projects worth over Rs 2,500 crore were inaugurated and foundation stones laid. Using the platform to target Prime Minister Modi, Kharge said the former has visited 42 countries but failed to visit conflict-hit Manipur. "BJP and RSS are talking about amending or rewriting the Constitution. You may try how much ever you want, the people of this country will not allow you to change the Constitution.
If you (people) allow them to change the Constitution, you will not have any rights," he added.

Folk singer booked for song criticising Uttarakhand government
Garhwali folk singer Pawan Semwal was booked for allegedly 'promoting enmity' and 'insulting the modesty of women' in a song allegedly criticising Uttarakhand's Bharatiya Janata Party government over unemployment and crimes against women, The Times of India reported on Sunday. The song titled 'Tin Bhi Ni Thami', which translates to 'cannot handle it even for a bit', was shared by Semwal on his YouTube channel. He also posted a link to the video on Facebook. The song linked the rise in the number of liquor shops to an increase in prostitution in the state, The Times of India reported. Following the Facebook post, a resident of Dehradun had filed a complaint against Semwal on Saturday, alleging that the lyrics were offensive to all women in the state. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case at the Patel Nagar police station. Inspector Chandrabhan Singh Adhikhari, the station house officer at Patel Nagar, said that the case was filed under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to promoting enmity between groups, making statements conducive to public mischief and using words or gestures intended to insult the modesty of women. Semwal, who was in Delhi, was summoned for questioning on Sunday. 'After a detailed questioning, he was served a notice under Section 35(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Suraksha Sanhita under which he must appear before the police whenever summoned for probe,' The Times of India quoted Adhikari as saying. 'He was also warned not to repeat such acts.' The song had been uploaded to YouTube three days ago and was taken down soon after. Semwal re-uploaded the video on Saturday but deleted it again following the police action. In a purported video statement posted on social media, Semwal said that he had faced 'immense' pressure from the police to remove the song after its initial release. The Opposition Congress accused the BJP of silencing dissent. 'The lyrics of Semwal's song are much more than what is being projected,' the newspaper quoted Congress' Uttarakhand chief Karan Mahara as saying. 'The song highlights things, which the government does not want to hear. It is the voice of every resident who wants to see change.' The BJP said that the song was 'part of [Congress'] agenda of mudslinging', The Times of India reported. 'The government has no role in registering the case,' said BJP state Spokesperson Manveer Singh Chauhan, adding that the 'law will take its own course'.

CM, Dy CM offer ‘bagina' at Kabini reservoir
Mysuru: ChiefMinister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Sunday performed the traditional bagina ritual at the Kabini reservoir in Beechanahalli, to mark the filling of the state's first major dam this monsoon. The Kabini reservoir, known for reaching capacity early during monsoon, had already touched near-full level by the first week of June. On Sunday, the water level stood at 2,283.33 feet, just short of its maximum capacity of 2,284 feet, with an inflow of 15,000 cusecs. After offering bagina at the dam's tower premises around 11:15 am, CM Siddaramaiah laid the foundation stone for rejuvenation works worth Rs32.25 crore. Speaking to the gathering, Siddaramaiah highlighted the importance of the Kapila river — a major tributary of the Cauvery — which irrigates over 1.13 lakh hectares. 'Like every year, bagina has been offered praying for prosperity to our farmers. A Brindavan-like landscape will also be developed near the dam for tourists,' he added. Reiterating the government's commitment to the Mekedatu balancing reservoir project, the CM urged the Centre to grant clearances. 'Both the Goa and Union governments are under BJP's control — they should ensure permission for Mahadayi and Mekedatu,' he said. Deputy CM Shivakumar said the Cabinet, which met at Mahadeshwara Hills recently, had approved Rs88 crore for rejuvenating the dam and was committed to the reservoir's holistic development. District in-charge minister Dr HC Mahadevappa, MLAs Anil Chikkamadu, K. Harish Gowda, Darshan Dhruvanarayana, AR Krishnamurthy, and MLC Dr D Timmaiah were present.

Railway Min reviews Nirmal line
Nirmal: Aspart of his visit to Hyderabad regarding railway development works in Telangana, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw met with BJP leader and MLA Alleti Maheshwar Reddy on Sunday. During this meeting, the Minister reviewed the progress of the railway line from Armoor to Adilabad via Nirmal. He stated that the railway line survey has been completed and directed officials to submit the full Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Railway Board within a month. The Minister emphasised that the central government is committed to the development of railway lines in Telangana. Alleti mentioned that the Union Minister assured financial approvals for the Armoor–Adilabad via Nirmal railway line will be granted soon, considering its priority.
