Hot dog spill shuts down Pennsylvania highway
A truckload of hot dogs spilled onto the Pennsylvania interstate after the truck carrying the franks had a mechanical failure, causing it to collide with a passenger car before scraping into a concrete barrier.
The barrier ripped the trailer open and spilled the hot dogs across Interstate 83.
Four people involved in the crash required medical attention, Shrewsbury Fire Company Chief Brad Dauberman told the Associated Press. None of the injuries were life threatening.
After the injured were tended to first responders were left picking up the dumped hot dogs off the highway.
Local officials called in a front loader to help scoop the hot dogs up and load them into a dump truck for disposal.
Dauberman told the AP that, despite the tedious work, the first responders still managed to find humor in the highway filled with hot dogs. He said his young daughter texted a photo to him showing a hotdog themed t-shirt.
He also said he learned a good deal about hot dogs during the morning excitement.
'I can tell you personally, hot dogs are very slippery,' Dauberman said. 'I did not know that.'
The crash wasn't as funny for the drivers trying to get to work on Friday morning. The crash caused significant traffic disruptions in both directions on Interstate 83, a major travel corridor in the region.
Jake Sitcosky, a Shrewsbury resident who was stuck on the highway, described the scene to Fox 43.
'We all came to a dead stop and I was wondering what was going on,' he said. 'Then I saw some emergency vehicles… and hot dogs all over the road.'
Emily Randall, another driver caught up in the chaos, told the broadcaster that she and other drivers had to reverse away from the crash to take detours.
'I was sitting in traffic for a good 20 to 30 minutes before I finally made it to Shrewsbury," she said.
She noted that the delay cost her business as she is a hair stylist who had to cancel early morning appointments due to the backup.

Chase Briscoe wins sixth NASCAR Cup pole of 2025 season at Iowa Speedway
August 2 - NEWTON, Iowa -- Big track, road course or short track -- Chase Briscoe has shown blistering speed in his first season in the No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota on all sorts of venues. On Saturday at Iowa Speedway, a 0.875-mile short track, Briscoe won his sixth pole of the season with a lap at 136.933 mph (23.004 seconds) to earn the top starting spot in Sunday's Iowa Corn 350 Powered by Ethanol (3:30 p.m. ET on USA, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). That effort followed a pole run last Saturday at mammoth 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In fact, in the last 11 NASCAR Cup Series qualifying sessions, Briscoe has put his car on the front row seven times with five Busch Light Pole Awards and a pair of second-place starts. Briscoe, who has eight career poles, attributed his qualifying success to a burgeoning working relationship with crew chief James Small. "I just feel that James and the engineers on the No.19 crew have done a really, really good job, especially these last two months, of understanding what I want and what I need out of the race car," Briscoe said. "I've even kind of noticed a switch with James over the course of the last two or three weeks even, where it went from 'We've got to be doing this different' to 'We've got to get the car better for you now.' "I think that came as they started to understand me more, and our performance has been better. James does such a great job of understanding what I need, especially on Saturdays for qualifying." Briscoe edged William Byron (136.435 mph) for the top starting spot by 0.084 seconds. Kyle Larson, Byron's Hendrick Motorsport teammate, was third fastest at 136.429 mph. Byron, Larson and teammate Chase Elliott, who qualified eighth, are locked in a tight battle for the Cup Series Regular Season Championship, with Elliott leading the series by four points over Byron and 15 over third-place Larson. Austin Cindric (136.258 mph) qualified fourth in the fastest Ford, followed by Brad Keselowski and defending race winner Ryan Blaney. Carson Hocevar, Elliott, AJ Allmendinger and Justin Haley secured positions seven through 10 on the grid. Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing teammates Chris Buescher and Ryan Preece will start 27th and 33rd, respectively, as they battle for berth in the Cup Playoffs. Preece trails Buescher by 42 points in the race for what is currently the final spot. Briscoe's Camry was the only Toyota in the top 10. Denny Hamlin, who scraped the Turn 1 wall during practice, was 11th fastest in the No. 11 JGR Toyota. Kyle Busch crashed in Turn 1 on his 18th practice lap and damaged his No. 8 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet beyond repair. He'll start from the rear of the field in a backup car on Sunday. --Reid Spencer, special to Field Level Media

Though automakers don't advertise as much, lease terms are negotiable – but are ultimately dependent on the dealership. Reducing your down payment also increases your monthly payment, and dealerships can alter lease terms or choose not to accept an offer of zero down at signing. Typically, putting zero down when signing a lease increases your monthly payment 15-25 percent. Autoblog Newsletter Autoblog brings you car news; expert reviews and exciting pictures and video. Its stylish exterior belies some serious power, too. The CX-70 can tow up to 5,000 pounds from its 3.3 inline turbo six-cylinder engine, producing up to 340 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Though not a proper PHEV, it comes equipped with a small electric motor to optimize fuel efficiency, which is how it earns 25 MPG combined. 2025 Mazda CX-70 Turbo S — Source: Kyle Edward The PHEV variant offers 26 miles of electric range before the ICE powertrain kicks in, which is plenty for a jaunt to the store and back. You also have the option to switch to a gas/electric hybrid powertrain for longer trips, and Mazda claims the PHEV CX-70 offers a robust 490 miles of total range. The all-wheel drive powertrain has a rear-wheel drive bias with kinematic posture control to minimize body roll. The Mazda CX-70 is fun to drive yet keeps its refined road stature on even the tightest turns. Outdoor storage solutions like carports are becoming more popular than ever for their versatility and cost-effectiveness. Whether you're protecting a vehicle, setting up a pop-up workshop, or creating extra space for backyard events, a durable canopy-style shelter offers flexibility that a permanent structure simply can't. And with the right features, they can provide solid protection in just about any season. For a limited time, Walmart is offering a 50% discount on the Walsunny 10 by 20 Foot Heavy Duty Carport, bringing the price down to $200 from $400. This oversized portable shelter offers generous room for a car, truck, boat, or equipment, and it's designed with removable sidewalls and doors, so it doubles easily as a covered party space or vendor booth. It's the kind of multipurpose solution that works just as well for backyard storage as it does for outdoor events or working on a project car. The Walsunny carport is built around a powder-coated steel frame with 1.5-inch diameter legs and 1.2-millimenter thick poles that are made to resist rust and corrosion. The canopy is made from a durable tarp that's designed to withstand sun, rain, wind, and dust throughout the year. Eight reinforced legs, four sandbags, and four nylon ropes help anchor it down securely. It also comes with two roll-up zippered doors and two side panels with integrated ventilation windows to improve airflow and reduce moisture buildup. For added flexibility, all side panels can be removed to convert it into a fully open canopy. Assembly requires no special tools, and most users can get it set up in just a couple of hours with two or three people. According to buyers, the shelter lives up to its promises. One reviewer wrote, 'The item is very sturdy and weatherproof. Just what I needed.' Another added, 'Very well made and worth the price. Love it.' Others mentioned how quickly it came together, with one saying, 'We love it [and it's] easy to install.' Half-off deals like this don't usually last long, so head over to Walmart's site today and pick up the Walsunny 10 by 20 Foot Heavy Duty Carport for just $200 while you still can.
