
Who's No. 1? Colts take themselves out of the running for best schedule-release videos
Some make us laugh.
Some make us scratch our heads in bewilderment.
Some make us feel good about ourselves for picking up on a timely pop culture reference that only the most hip members of our society would recognize and that may be irrelevant in weeks.
All of them, however, make us ready for some football ... in about four months.
In what has become a yearly tradition in the social media age, all 32 NFL teams released videos Wednesday to help reveal their schedules for the upcoming season.
And one team took it back just hours after it was released. The Indianapolis Colts' video seemingly poked fun at Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill's run-in with the law. The video featured a dolphin swimming while wearing Hill's No. 10, drawing a siren from a Coast Guard boat helmed by an officer crossing his arms with a look of disapproval.
The Colts said in a statement that the Minecraft-inspired production 'exceeded our rights with Microsoft and included an insensitive clip involving Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill. We sincerely apologize to Microsoft and Tyreek.'
Hill responded in good humor on X: 'Should've left it up @Colts , this was funny,' with a shrug emoji.
Getting more creative and quirky by the year, these videos aim to entertain as much as inform. Clearly, they don't just exist to provide the dates and times for a particular team's 17-game schedule. Sometimes, the schedules seem to be afterthoughts.
While some are short and to the point (thanks, Texans and Dolphins), many others require a decent chunk of the viewers' time (nearly 11 minutes of former head coach Jon Gruden — really, Buccaneers?).
To help sort through it, below is an extremely subjective list of this year's top five best schedule-release videos. In the interest of preventing any kind of home-field advantage, the Rams and Chargers were excluded from consideration. Both are worth checking out:
Also, some honorable mentions worth checking out include the Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Tennessee Titans and Cincinnati Bengals.

5. Buffalo Bills
This is nothing fancy, and that's what makes it brilliant. A miscommunication between general manager Brandon Beane and quarterback Josh Allen leads Beane to enlist NBA legend Allen Iverson for the Bills' schedule-release video. A confused A.I. eventually holds up a paper copy of the schedule for just 3 seconds.
4. Las Vegas Raiders
An homage to the old-school 'This is SportsCenter' commercials on ESPN, this one comes in at nearly 7 minutes long — but it needs all that time to squeeze in the Easter eggs, current and past Raiders, celebrity cameos, subtle trash talk (Penn & Teller really nail the Chiefs), inside jokes, live animals, cultural references and more. It even has a blooper reel at the end.
3. Denver Broncos
While the Broncos may never top their spoof of 'The Office' from a few years back, this one is pretty great too. For reasons that aren't particularly clear (or important), the video is set at a rodeo that features children representing the Broncos' opponents, trying (and failing) to ride sheep. The real star is the announcer, who provides brutal commentary ('Duval? More like 'Do Fall' for the Jaguars) for each failure.
2. New York Giants
In this spoof of a reality TV commercial, the Giants present their 2025 opponents as the fake show's cast members. The Chiefs are represented by a woman who speaks about her new hairstyle ('I was due for a blowout,' a reference to the team's lopsided Super Bowl loss) and her love for zebras (a reference to the perception that NFL referees show preference to the Chiefs). The Chargers are depicted as an air-headed surfer dude ('I like to keep my feet in the clouds and my head in the sand. Wait, I think I got that backwards.')
1. Seattle Seahawks
A perfectly executed send-up of the loud, hyper, over-the-top TV ads that have driven generations of kiddos to beg their parents to purchase hunks of plastic shaped like muscular heroes and ferocious monsters. What child (or, let's be real, adult toy collector) wouldn't want a Devon Witherspoon, Marshawn Lynch or Steve Largent action figure with weapons that include 'a functioning flame thrower' and a 'football finale missile ray'? 'All figures and playsets sold separately,' the team's X account states. 'Also none of this is real.' That's a shame.

According to Jake Arthur of SI's Horseshoe Huddle, during Thursday's OTA practice that was open to the media, Shrader was 4-for-4 on field goal attempts, making kicks from 33, 40, 45, and 53 yards. Trujillo would go 4-for-4 as well on the same distance kicks, and also made one more during a two-minute drill to finish the day 5-for-5 overall. With Trujillo specifically, Arthur noted his power. "It was quite noticeable how much the ball essentially explodes off Trujillo's foot," wrote Arthur. "He made multiple kicks of 60-plus yards in college at Temple." Now, of course, the caveat here is that this is only one practice, and I would guess this wasn't the first time that these two have kicked during OTAs; it just happened to be the first time that they kicked in front of the media. The Colts signed Shrader in free agency earlier this offseason, before eventually releasing veteran Matt Gay. They then signed Trujillo following the NFL draft as an undrafted rookie. Shrader spent the 2024 offseason with the Colts and was on and off the practice squad for the first half of the season before getting opportunities with the New York Jets and the Kansas City Chiefs. Appearing in four total games with the Colts, Chiefs, and Jets, Shrader would make all five field goal attempts, and he was 9-for-9 on extra point attempts. Shrader's ability to bounce from team to team, adjust to a new snapper and a new holder, while remaining consistent, caught the attention of GM Chris Ballard. "He leaves us and performs and performs at two different teams –you know how hard that is?" GM Chris Ballard said. "That's difficult now, to go to two different teams and have to perform – that is not easy. You're working with a totally different operation at both – different snapper and different holder – and to go in and be successful." During Trujillo's most recent season at Temple, he was perfect on 21 extra point attempts and was 16-for-22 overall. This included going 5-for-5 from 40-49 yards and 5-of-8 from 50-plus, per PFF. 'We think (Trujillo is) very similar to what Spencer was last year,' special teams coordinator Brian Mason said via the Indy Star. 'Maybe, statistically, wasn't what you'd think you'd be looking for from a college standpoint, less than an 80% kicker. … But you can see a lot of guys — even Harrison Butker was less than 80% in college — if they have the talent and mental makeup, be able to take the next step.' As Ballard mentioned after the addition of Trujillo, the Colts having two kickers on their offseason roster is not abnormal. In fact, having only one would be the oddity. For the time being, this is Shrader's job, but that isn't set in stone either, as he will presumably still have to outperform Trujillo this summer. At a position where the Colts now find themselves quite inexperienced, competition is a very good thing to have.

Why a Minneapolis neighborhood sharpens a giant pencil every year
MINNEAPOLIS -- Residents will gather Saturday in a scenic Minneapolis neighborhood for an annual ritual — the sharpening of a gigantic No. 2 pencil. The 20-foot-tall (6-meter-tall) pencil was sculpted out of a mammoth oak tree at the home of John and Amy Higgins. The beloved tree was damaged in a storm a few years ago when fierce winds twisted the crown off. Neighbors mourned. A couple even wept. But the Higginses saw it not so much as a loss, but as a chance to give the tree new life. The sharpening ceremony on their front lawn has evolved into a community spectacle that draws hundreds of people to the leafy neighborhood on Lake of the Isles, complete with music and pageantry. Some people dress as pencils or erasers. Two Swiss alphorn players will provide part of this year's entertainment. The hosts will commemorate a Minneapolis icon, the late music superstar Prince, by handing out purple pencils on what would have been his 67th birthday. In the wake of the storm, the Higginses knew they wanted to create a sculpture out of their tree. They envisioned a whimsical piece of pop art that people could recognize, but not a stereotypical chainsaw-carved, north-woods bear. Given the shape and circumference of the log, they came up with the idea of an oversized pencil standing tall in their yard. 'Why a pencil? Everybody uses a pencil,' Amy Higgins said. 'Everybody knows a pencil. You see it in school, you see it in people's work, or drawings, everything. So, it's just so accessible to everybody, I think, and can easily mean something, and everyone can make what they want of it.' So they enlisted wood sculptor Curtis Ingvoldstad to transform it into a replica of a classic Trusty brand No. 2 pencil. 'People interpret this however they want to. They should. They should come to this and find whatever they want out of it,' Ingvoldstad said. That's true even if their reaction is negative, he added. 'Whatever you want to bring, you know, it's you at the end of the day. And it's a good place. It's good to have pieces that do that for people." John Higgins said they wanted the celebration to pull the community together. 'We tell a story about the dull tip, and we're gonna get sharp,' he said. 'There's a renewal. We can write a new love letter, a thank you note. We can write a math problem, a to-do list. And that chance for renewal, that promise, people really seem to buy into and understand.' To keep the point pointy, they haul a giant, custom-made pencil sharpener up the scaffolding that's erected for the event. Like a real pencil, this one is ephemeral. Every year they sharpen it, it gets a bit shorter. They've taken anywhere from 3 to 10 inches (8 to 25 centimeters) off a year. They haven't decided how much to shave off this year. They're OK knowing that they could reduce it to a stub one day. The artist said they'll let time and life dictate its form — that's part of the magic. 'Like any ritual, you've got to sacrifice something," Ingvoldstad said. "So we're sacrificing part of the monumentality of the pencil, so that we can give that to the audience that comes, and say, 'This is our offering to you, and in goodwill to all the things that you've done this year.''

Maroons guns of past help Dolphins spine shine: Katoa
Dolphins star half Isaiya Katoa is a true NSW Blue in waiting, but he has credited video sessions watching one of Queensland's greatest spine combinations for the dazzling attack of his side. The Dolphins have scored a combined 100 points in their past two matches, with a record-breaking 56-6 win over St George Illawarra on Friday night following a 44-8 demolition of competition leaders Canterbury before their bye. "We have a spine meeting where our nine, six, seven and one come together," Katoa said after his man-of-the-match display against the Dragons. "Some of the clips we look at are Cameron Smith, JT (Johnathan Thurston), Cooper Cronk and Billy Slater all connecting (for the Maroons). "The more they connected the more success their team had. We are trying to build that into our own games and still try to play to our individual strengths. It is a work in progress for us." Built on steely defence, the past two Dolphins wins have also featured the creative wares of halves Kodi Nikorima and Katoa at their best. Dazzling fullback Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow was on Origin duties for the Canterbury clash, but scored a try double against the Dragons. Hooker Jeremy Marshall-King returned from an extended break with a leg laceration against the Red V. With bench hooker Kurt Donoghoe chiming in to perfection, the Dolphins attack, when on song, is as good as any side in the NRL Centres Herbie Farnworth and Jake Averillo have been in great touch, which is due to Nikorima and Katoa connecting so well together as a duo and not just sitting on their own sides of the field. "We speak about (combining) all week. Over the pre-season we were working really hard at trying to find each other on the field, whether I come over to the left side or Kodi comes over to the right side," Katoa said "The more we can find each other the more we can find guys like Hammer (Tabuai-Fidow), Herbie and Jake on the outside. With the speed and strike they have, you need to keep giving them the footy." Once again it is the old Maroons halves pairing that Katoa has learned so much from. "The two that come to mind are Cooper Cronk and JT, just the way they were always talking to each other, playing both sides of the field and mixing it up at times," Katoa said. "It is something me and Kodi base our game off." The Dolphins are now in seventh position on the ladder and play North Queensland away next Saturday night.
