Revealed: Why Florian Wirtz rejected Manchester City transfer for Liverpool
A new report has indicated that concerns over Pep Guardiola's Manchester City future impacted Florian Wirtz's decision on his next club this summer.
The recently-dethroned Premier League champions Manchester City ultimately lost out in their preferred hunt for the Germany international's signature this summer, with their official line being a concern over finances around a deal.

Having come into the summer in what appeared to be a three-horse race with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, developments across the space of 72 hours saw City go from supposedly holding talks with Wirtz and his family in Manchester, to losing out to Liverpool.
Arne Slot and senior club officials made a concerted effort to bring the player to Anfield and strengthen their roster ahead of a Premier League title defence, offering record-breaking finances to both Bayer Leverkusen and the player.
Ultimately, Manchester City would move on to an equally as impressive operator within the French game, securing Olympique Lyonnais' Rayan Cherki for a fraction of the cost to come into the position vacated by Kevin De Bruyne this summer.
But according to The Times' Paul Joyce, several sources – including those in Germany – have indicated that Florian Wirtz had enquired about how long Pep Guardiola would remain in charge at City given his contract is due to expire in the summer of 2027.

The report then points towards information previously issued by German publication Bild, who claimed that the Catalan coach was 'not emphatic' and so the Bayer Leverkusen playmaker turned down Manchester City, and not the other way round.
From the side of City, they claimed that they were pulling out of the race for Wirtz's signature earlier in the summer transfer window due to the cost involved in a potential deal, estimated by them to be £250 million split between a £126 million transfer fee and a five-year contract.
Thankfully for Manchester City supporters, the club appear to have put the money saved from a deal for Florian Wirtz into wider-ranging reinforcements within Pep Guardiola's first-team squad this summer.
Completing four deals prior to the start of the FIFA Club World Cup, Manchester City have welcomed a new left-sided full-back to bolster defence in Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolves, while Tijjani Reijnders has come into the No8 role.
As mentioned, Rayan Cherki arrives as a new natural No10 while there was also an alteration between the posts as long-standing third-choice goalkeeper Scott Carson was replaced by Chelsea's Marcus Bettinelli.

Liverpool preparing offer for £75m England forward
Then there's the case of Luis Diaz. Out of contract in 2027, he could be sold to either Barcelona or a team in the Saudi Pro League in order to avoid losing him for a diminished fee. Anthony Gordon back on the radar Those sales would pave the way for a high-quality replacement. Advertisement And there is no question which winger would come out on top of the Reds' wishlist. Liverpool were tantalisingly close to agreeing a deal for Newcastle's Anthony Gordon last summer. The move ultimately fell apart at the final hurdle - with Liverpool said to be reluctant to add Jarell Quansah to the deal. The Magpies needed big sales in order to comply with PSR regulations and ended up getting rid of Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh instead. Gordon stayed put - signing a new deal in October - but Liverpool haven't gone away. © IMAGO - Anthony Gordon Liverpool Liverpool prepared to make offer for Gordon A new report by DAVEOCKOP claims that club execs have maintained contact with Gordon's representatives and are ready with an offer this summer. Advertisement It would require some of Liverpool's current wing options being shipped out first - and Gordon has been valued at around £75m. 'Liverpool have remained in active contact with Anthony Gordon's representatives since last summer,' the report reads. 'The Anfield club are prepared to make a significant move for the Newcastle United winger if one of their current forwards departs this summer – with the likes of Federico Chiesa, Darwin Nunez, and even Luis Diaz facing less than certain futures on Merseyside. 'The Reds' interest in the England international has persisted following their failed attempt to secure his services.' Advertisement Last season wasn't his best, scoring six goals and adding five assists as the Geordies regained their Champions League status. He fell out of the lineup towards the end of the campaign but the England international remains a high-class player. Gordon enjoys a friendship with Curtis Jones and was on Liverpool's books during his schoolboy days.

Poor grid planning could shift Europe's data centre geography, report says
By Forrest Crellin PARIS (Reuters) -Europe's leading data centre hubs face a major shift as developers will go wherever connection times are shortest, unless there is more proactive electricity grid planning, a report on Thursday by energy think-tank Ember showed. Data centre buildout has exploded in recent years as tech companies race to put together the strongest offering of competitive artificial intelligence (AI) models, which rely on a new generation of power-hungry data centres. This could lead to a geographical shift in investment in Europe as developers look for new places with easier power access and shorter lead times, the report said. By 2035, half of Europe's data centre capacity could be located outside the current main hubs Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, Paris and Dublin, the report said. This could leech billions of euros in investments from the congested countries, as data centres in Germany contributed 10.4 billion euros ($12 billion) in GDP in 2024 which should more than double by 2029, and it could slow job growth, it said. Only France, is expected to maintain continued data centre investment as the grid remains relatively unconstrained, the report said. Connecting a new data centre to the grid in legacy hubs can take an average of 7–10 years, with some projects facing delays of up to 13 years, the report said. However, wait times in newer markets are much shorter, with Italy taking just three years, it said. "Grids are ultimately deciding where investments go ... they are now effectively a tool to attract investment," said Elisabeth Cremona, Senior Energy Analyst at Ember. "In Europe's push for competitiveness and economic growth, it now needs to be taking into account grids and driving investment to that infrastructure if it wants to see other projects materialise," she said. She added that this is not unique to data centres but covers all industry, as any kind of industry that is either new or looking to electrify is going to go through the same process. In Sweden, Norway and Denmark, data centre electricity demand is expected to triple already by 2030. In Austria, Greece, Finland, Hungary, Italy, Portugal and Slovakia data centre consumption is projected to increase by three to five times by 2035 compared to 2024. ($1 = 0.8692 euros)

(AP Photo/Sue Ogrocki) STRONGSVILLE, Ohio (AP) — Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders is accused of driving a pickup truck 101 mph (163 kilometers per hour) on a suburban Cleveland interstate earlier this week. The Strongsville Police Department stopped Sanders at about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday in a 60 mph (97 kilometers per hour) zone on Interstate 71 near the Ohio Turnpike, according to a report provided to local media. Advertisement Sanders, 23, could pay a $250 fine to waive the fourth-degree misdemeanor case, according to police. The Browns did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Sanders, the son of Hall of Fame player Deion Sanders, was drafted in the fifth round (144th overall) of the NFL draft this spring, even though many projections had him going in the first round. He played under his father at the University of Colorado. Sanders is competing against three other quarterbacks with the Browns. They wrapped up minicamp last week and will open training camp in late July. ___ AP NFL:
