Rosman to stay focused on LA28 despite Pearly-Thinaah's uncertain future
National women's badminton doubles head coach Rosman Razak remains focused on preparing top pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics (LA28), despite uncertainty surrounding their status with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).
With the duo's contract with BAM still unresolved following the expiry of their previous deal at the end of last year, speculation has grown that they may turn professional.
Rosman, however, said he will continue to give his full commitment as long as the Indonesia Open 2025 runners-up remain under his guidance.
'Whatever the decision or outcome, I will continue serving because I don't know the future. As long as they are still under my training, I will do my best to guide them towards our goal.
'This is why BAM hired me, I will only concentrate on the objective (LA28) only,' he said when met at the training session, here, today.
During the Indonesia Open 2025 final last Sunday, the world number four pair pushed world number one and top-seeded Chinese pair Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning to the limit in a thrilling one-hour and 29-minute final before going down 25-23, 12-21, 19-21 at the iconic Istora Senayan venue.
Even though they narrowly missed out on the title in the Super 1000 tournament in Jakarta, Rosman, who was delighted with his charges' performance, hoped Pearly-Thinaah would remain consistent in future tournaments.
He also noted the pair's progress since he assumed his current role last November, praising their openness to adapting and improving.
'They are willing to listen and adapt because being top pairs is not as easy as people think. There are many other factors which can cause them to rise and fall but they acted professionally,' he said.
When asked whether Pearly-Thinaah are improving in higher-tier tournaments, Rosman said the level of quality and pressure remains the same, whether it's a Super 500 or Super 750 event, as the top pairs competing are largely the same across all levels.
'Seriously, I take it Super 500, 750 and 1000 as the same tournament. Pressure is still the same. I cannot say Super 500 and Super 750 are easier and Super 1000 has more pressure, as there's no such thing,' he said. – Bernama

The 4-0 victory means that Malaysia has taken the lead in Group F with six points, while Vietnam is now second with three points. Rosman stays put to produce women's doubles champs

Rosman is fully aware of his task and he aims to remain firm in his objective of guiding all the shuttlers under his care until 2028 regardless of any decision made by his players to turn professional. Currently, his top pair and world No. 3 Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah have yet to sign a contract with the BA of Malaysia and there is a possibility that they could turn independent. Rosman is not letting his charges' ongoing unresolved contract distract him from his task at hand. 'Whatever the outcome of Pearly-Thinaah's contracts, I can't afford to think about this as it will affect me too,' said Rosman after overseeing a training session at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara yesterday. 'I don't know the future but as long as they are training under me, I will do my best to guide them and keep working hard towards the biggest goal which is the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. 'BAM hired me for this and my responsibility is not just towards Pearly-Thinaah but also the other women's doubles pairs in the team.' Despite the contract issue, Rosman did well to guide Pearly-Thinaah to a runners-up finish in the recent Indonesian Open. The pair made it into their first ever World Tour Super 1000 final before going down fighting 25-23, 12-21, 19-21 to China's world No. 1 Liu Shengshu-Tan Ning. 'Pearly-Thinaah did not win the title but I'm happy with their performance in this tournament,' said Rosman. 'It's a good breakthrough for them and also a boost for the entire women's doubles department. I hope they can maintain their form. 'For me, it's normal for players to go through ups and downs. Chong Wei advises injured Ng to seek treatment overseas
Sorry state: Ng Tze Yong suffered an ACL injury during his match against Hong Kong's Angus Ng Ka Long in the first round of the Malaysian Masters last month. PUTRAJAYA: Badminton legend Datuk Lee Chong Wei has advised national men's singles shuttler Ng Tze Yong to consider seeking treatment abroad in order to recover fully from his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. It is understood that Chong Wei met Tze Yong last Saturday to offer encouragement and explore the best possible options to help the 24-year-old revive his career. Tze Yong is currently undergoing prehabilitation to strengthen his knee and surrounding muscles ahead of surgery. However, Chong Wei believes post-surgery treatment abroad could lead to a more effective recovery. 'This is a crucial period for him. For any athlete, injuries are the biggest fear. I've tried to motivate him, but the most important thing is his own will to bounce back from this setback,' said Chong Wei, a member of the Road to Gold committee. 'I've spoken to the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) about the possibility of sending him overseas for treatment, perhaps in Germany to give him another shot at recovery. 'BAM will hold further discussions with the National Sports Institute (NSI) and the National Sports Council (NSC) to explore the best medical and rehabilitation support for him.' Chong Wei also advised Tze Yong not to rush his return to competition, warning that a premature comeback could worsen his condition if recovery is not handled properly. 'He needs more time to heal. There's no need to hurry back onto court. He already had a recurring back injury earlier this year, and now he's dealing with a serious knee issue. 'I know his back is still not fully strong, and he relies heavily on his legs that may have contributed to the ACL injury. 'I told Tze Yong that he needs to undergo surgery and focus fully on a proper recovery process,' said Chong Wei. Chong Wei also consulted former NSI director general Datuk Dr Ramlan Aziz to discuss a potential recovery plan for Tze Yong, with hopes that he can return to the national team, possibly in time for the Thomas Cup next year. However, this would ultimately depend on BAM's planning. Tze Yong's latest injury could not have come at a worse time. He suffered the ACL tear during the first round of the Malaysian Masters two weeks ago while facing Hong Kong's Angus Ng Ka Long at the Axiata Arena. It was only his fourth tournament of the year, having just returned from a lengthy layoff due to a recurring back injury. More worrying still, his world ranking has plummeted to No. 199, and he is no longer eligible to apply for a protected ranking anytime soon, having already done so recently for his back injury.
