Clairwood residents urged to prepare for one-hour power cut
The supply interruption is required to allow eThekwini Electricity to safely energise the 33kV Bayhead, Rossburgh circuit at the Rossburgh substation. Only the Karim Lane substation will be affected by this outage.

Residents are reminded that the same group that was affected by the outage on July 6 at around 08:00, will be affected by this planned outage.
Residents in the affected areas are urged to plan for this outage and treat all electrical installations as live.

WATCH: Hang out for charity on the ZO wash line The countdown is on for the ZO's most heart-warming tradition – the 12th annual Hang out with Madiba charity drive. This Mandela Day on Friday, 18 July, the ZO team is once again stringing up washing lines and calling on the community to donate winter clothing, blankets, toiletries and non-perishable foods between 7.30am and 12 noon. The drop-off points will be the newspaper's offices at 3 Baines Road, Empangeni, and in the open space between the Civic Centre and East Central Arterial in Richards Bay where washing lines will also be erected. Clubs, schools and businesses are encouraged to erect their own charity lines on the day. By spending 67 minutes of your time collecting these items from your home and making a charitable delivery at the lines, or volunteering at the lines, you will be warming someone's cold winter. These 67 minutes honour the 67 years Nelson Mandela spent fighting for justice, equality and freedom. Let his legacy of kindness live on by hanging out for a good cause. The donations will be distributed via the ZO's charity arm Dice (Do I Care Enough?) to needy organisations and communities. Clothes collected on the day supply Dice and the city's Disaster Management unit for an entire year. The ZO has again partnered with the City of uMhlathuze, Rotary Clubs of Empangeni and Richards Bay, as well as Concord Access Solutions to ensure this winter is warmer for the needy. You CAN make a difference! Dice operations manager Karen Dalton shared the NPO's top needs: · Men's and teen boys' clothing, especially size small · Winter warmth: blankets, beanies, scarves for winter · Toiletries: soap, toothpaste, sanitary pads and toilet paper · Non-perishable items: packet soups, 2-minute noodles, porridge, maize meal, samp and beans, tea and sugar, or anything in the grocery cupboards at home, like canned goods There will be donation boxes at the drop-off points on Madiba Day. Planned power outage to affect Blackheath, Risidale, and Northcliff
A scheduled power outage will impact parts of Johannesburg next week as City Power undertakes critical maintenance at the Roosevelt Park substation. Landscaper digs in with councillor to refresh Lonehill Shopping Centre entrance
Local landscaper Liz Budd has brought a breath of fresh air to the Lonehill Shopping Centre, quite literally, by transforming the once-overgrown verges into a charming, low-maintenance green space, with a little help from Ward 94 councillor David Foley. Budd, a Lonehill resident and passionate gardener, recently joined Foley's clean-up efforts, aimed at restoring order and pride to public spaces around the shopping centre. What began as a routine verge clearing quickly bloomed into something more. 'I thought it would be lovely if we didn't just clean them up, but actually planted some new greenery, something water-wise and easy to look after,' said Budd. Over the past few weeks, Budd has introduced hardy, low-maintenance plants, such as Agapanthus and garlic plants, to the soil along the shopping centre's verges, selections she says are both visually pleasing and sustainable. 'We planted a little bit on the other verges, and we're planning to do more. It's going to look very beautiful. I hope people who drive through, into the shopping centre, see how beautiful it is.' The improvements haven't gone unnoticed. Budd says she's already received encouraging feedback from the community. 'I got a very nice message from one of the residents who said it looks really great.' Budd also credited Foley for his ongoing support and hands-on involvement in community upliftment projects. 'David is such a champ. Very nice to work with. I'm really grateful for him to participate.'
