DMK condemns the Union government for misusing Central agencies against Opposition-ruled States
The party general council meeting was held in Madurai on Sunday under the leadership of its president and TN Chief Minister M K Stalin in which a large number of senior leaders, ministers, MPs, MLAs and council members from across Tamil Nadu participated.
As many as 28 resolutions were passed at the meeting. The meeting condemned the searches conducted by the ED officials in the TASMAC headquarters in Chennai. While the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) had booked cases against the TASMAC during the AIADMK regime, the BJP had used the ED to raid the offices of the TASMAC and its officials thus giving impression that the DMK government was involved in malpractices.
Lauding Mr Stalin for his able administration and leading the State towards progressive growth in every sphere, the meeting said that Tamil Nadu not only stood on top of the board but set a 'model' for the entire nation through innovation and for its implementation of novel welfare programs.
The swift move to approach the Supreme Court by Mr Stalin came in for unanimous appreciation. After the Governor failed in his duty, the apex court's directive to the Governor had set a new meaning to the Constitution. It was not a victory to the elected government in Tamil Nadu, but the order put at rest the confusion over the federal structure in a democratic fabric, a resolution said.
In another resolution, the ruling party said that fearing trouble, the AIADMK had pledged its self-respect with the BJP. The DMK would not fall prey to any such pressure tactics. It would not be 'controlled' by Amit Shah or any Shah. The DMK would protect the rights of the people boldly, the resolution affirmed. A majority of the resolutions targeted the BJP and the party's prime political opponent AIADMK.
From the time Mr Stalin took over as the president of the party, there has been no looking back for the organisation as it had emerged victorious in the Lok Sabha polls, Assembly elections, by-polls, local body elections in the State. The trend would continue in the next year Assembly elections and the party would romp home victory, the meeting resolved.
June 3 as 'Semmozhi' Day
The party would celebrate June 3, the birthday of late leader M Karunanidhi, as Semmozhi Day by organising meetings in 102 locations in Tamil Nadu. The late leader's sacrifices and achievements, who toiled for the State and served the people for over five decades and ruled for five terms as Chief Minister, would be disseminated to the younger generations, a resolution said.
The meeting resolved to retrieve Katchatheevu in the larger interest of the traditional fishermen. The members strongly opposed imposition of Hindi language in any form. They condemned the Union government for continuously neglecting the State's interest in Railways and other Central projects. The members urged through a resolution to take back Waqf amendment 2025 by the Union government and urged to take up the caste census swiftly.

Pb withdrawal of land pooling policy is victory of farmers: BJP
Chandigarh: Punjab BJP working president Ashwani Sharma on Tuesday said the withdrawal of the land pooling policy by the AAP government is a big victory for farmers and labourers, and that his party's protests put pressure on the state government. He said his party took a clear stand against this scheme from day one that it would not allow acquisition of even an inch of farmers' land. In the face of mounting pressure from farmer bodies and opposition parties, the Punjab government on Monday withdrew its land pooling policy, which it had once termed 'farmer-friendly'. The Punjab BJP on Tuesday held celebrations over the rolling back of the policy. 'Punjab and Punjabiyat have won. It is a big victory of farmers and labourers,' Sharma told reporters here. From day one, when the policy was released, the BJP took a clear stand that it would not let the AAP government acquire even an inch of land, he said. He further accused AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain of 'looting' Punjab. 'Today, everybody knows Punjab is not run by Punjabis,' he said, claiming that AAP leaders sitting in Delhi call the shots. 'They (Delhi-based AAP leaders) brought the land pooling policy to loot Punjab,' the BJP leader charged. 'The BJP held protests at tehsil, block and district levels against the policy. We were to hold a protest, 'Zameen Bachao, Kisan Bachao' in Patiala on August 17. All these things put pressure on the state government,' Sharma said. He demanded that the state government issue a notification about scrapping of the policy. He said, 'Will Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann make a statement to ensure that not even a single inch of land of farmers will be acquired through any other way?' In a brief statement issued on Monday evening, the principal secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development said, 'The government hereby withdraws the land pooling policy dated May 14 and its subsequent amendments.' 'Consequently, all actions, like LOIs (letters of intent) issued, registration done, or any other action taken thereunder shall be reversed henceforth,' the statement said.

Rajanna issue echoes in Assembly, BJP seeks reason for removal
Bengaluru: The removal of K N Rajanna from the Karnataka Cabinet triggered uproar in the Legislative As-sembly on Tuesday, with the opposition BJP demanding to know the reasons for his dismissal. The government, however, refrained from any discussion and tabled the notification on Rajanna's removal from the Council of Ministers. Rajanna, who served as Cooperation Minister, was dropped from the Cabinet on Monday following directions from the Congress high command, party sources said. Rajanna's recent comments on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's 'votes theft' allegations during 2024 Lok Sabha polls appear to have cost him his ministerial berth. Placing the notification on Rajanna's sacking before the Assembly after Question Hour and Zero Hour, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil said if any minister left the Council of Ministers, he or she may make a statement with the Speaker's permission, but beyond that, no discussion or explanation can be allowed as per the rulebook. At this point, Deputy Leader of the Opposition Arvind Bellad and senior BJP MLA Suresh Ku-mar demanded that the Chief Minister, and not the Law Minister, address the however, continued, saying that in earlier instances of ministers being removed from gov-ernments, no discussions had been held in the Assembly. 'For example when Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned as the Vice President, was there discussion on that?' BJP members responded by pointing out that resignation is different from being sacked.'What was Rajanna's mistake, people of the state should he removed for speaking the truth?' Bellad asked. Hitting back, Minister Priyank Kharge asked the BJP as to why MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal was expelled from the party.'Should your permission be sought for removing any minister from the government? Keeping or removing someone from the cabinet is the prerogative of the CM. What do you have to do with it?' he questioned. Strongly reacting to it, BJP MLAs said Yatnal was removed from the party, and he was not a Minister in the cabinet. 'If it was the Chief Minister's decision, it would have been fine, but this is said to be a Congress high command's decision, so it should be discussed,' he Kharge also tried to counter the BJP citing Dhankhar's resignation, but the Speaker inter-vened to pacify both sides, and proceeded with the business of the House. Rajanna is the second minister to be out of Siddaramaiah's Cabinet, after the Congress came to power in year, Bellary MLA B Nagendra quit following allegations against him in connection with embezzlement at the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki ST Development Corporation. Earlier, when the House met for the day, BJP demanded that the Chief Minister make a state-ment on Rajanna's removal from the Cabinet. Leader of Opposition R Ashoka said as the Assem-bly is in session, it is the duty of the Chief Minister and the government to inform the House. 'We cannot be kept in the dark.'To this, Speaker U T Khader said the CM may provide information when he comes to the house and it is an internal matter (of the government or the ruling party). State BJP President and MLA B Y Vijayendra, Sunil Kumar and others asked, 'how was it an internal matter?'They demanded that the reasons for Rajanna's sacking be disclosed, alleging that he was re-moved for speaking truth regarding Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's allegations against the Elec-tion Commission of India on 'votes theft'. Sunil Kumar said, 'Rajanna has claimed a conspiracy against him, the truth behind it should come out.'
