Placing the notification on Rajanna's sacking before the Assembly after Question Hour and Zero Hour, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil said if any minister left the Council of Ministers, he or she may make a statement with the Speaker's permission, but beyond that, no discussion or explanation can be allowed as per the rulebook.
At this point, Deputy Leader of the Opposition Arvind Bellad and senior BJP MLA Suresh Ku-mar demanded that the Chief Minister, and not the Law Minister, address the issue.Patil, however, continued, saying that in earlier instances of ministers being removed from gov-ernments, no discussions had been held in the Assembly. 'For example when Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned as the Vice President, was there discussion on that?'
BJP members responded by pointing out that resignation is different from being sacked.'What was Rajanna's mistake, people of the state should know.....was he removed for speaking the truth?' Bellad asked.
Hitting back, Minister Priyank Kharge asked the BJP as to why MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal was expelled from the party.'Should your permission be sought for removing any minister from the government? Keeping or removing someone from the cabinet is the prerogative of the CM. What do you have to do with it?' he questioned.
Strongly reacting to it, BJP MLAs said Yatnal was removed from the party, and he was not a Minister in the cabinet. 'If it was the Chief Minister's decision, it would have been fine, but this is said to be a Congress high command's decision, so it should be discussed,' he said.Priyank Kharge also tried to counter the BJP citing Dhankhar's resignation, but the Speaker inter-vened to pacify both sides, and proceeded with the business of the House. Rajanna is the second minister to be out of Siddaramaiah's Cabinet, after the Congress came to power in 2023.Last year, Bellary MLA B Nagendra quit following allegations against him in connection with embezzlement at the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki ST Development Corporation.
Earlier, when the House met for the day, BJP demanded that the Chief Minister make a state-ment on Rajanna's removal from the Cabinet. Leader of Opposition R Ashoka said as the Assem-bly is in session, it is the duty of the Chief Minister and the government to inform the House. 'We cannot be kept in the dark.'To this, Speaker U T Khader said the CM may provide information when he comes to the house and it is an internal matter (of the government or the ruling party). State BJP President and MLA B Y Vijayendra, Sunil Kumar and others asked, 'how was it an internal matter?'They demanded that the reasons for Rajanna's sacking be disclosed, alleging that he was re-moved for speaking truth regarding Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's allegations against the Elec-tion Commission of India on 'votes theft'.
Sunil Kumar said, 'Rajanna has claimed a conspiracy against him, the truth behind it should come out.'

The PM's comments come amid a major political tussle over the identification and deportation of undocumented Bangladeshis in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled states. The Opposition has attacked Modi over the 'harassment' of Bengali-speaking Muslims in the garb of this exercise. Undocumented immigration is a major issue in Assam and West Bengal, the two border states going to the polls next year. Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has launched what he calls a drive to evict and send back Bangladeshis. In June, Sarma said 330 illegal Bangladeshis were sent back. In July, a political slugfest broke out between West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and her Assam counterpart Sarma on social media on July 19 with the two leaders accusing each other of engaging in divisive and appeasement politics Banerjee alleged that the BJP was persecuting Bengali speakers in Assam. 'This divisive agenda of the BJP in Assam has crossed all limits and people of Assam will fight back. I stand with every fearless citizen who is fighting for the dignity of their language and identity, and their democratic rights,' she posted on X on July 19. Mumbai: The civic polls in Mumbai and other key cities will see cousins Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray, earlier not on amicable terms, form an alliance, said Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Sanjay Raut. "The Thackeray brothers (Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray) will contest the municipal corporation elections in Mumbai, Thane, Nashik and Kalyan-Dombivali together and win. The strength of Raj and Uddhav Thackeray is the strength of the unity of the Marathi-speakers. No power cannot break the iron fist of `Marathi manus' now," Raut told reporters. Civic polls are due in Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan-Dombivali, Navi Mumbai, Ulhasnagar, Bhiwandi-Nizamapur, Vasai-Virar, Mira-Bhayandar and Panvel, apart from other cities like Nashik. Mr Raut said Uddhav and Raj Thackeray have the support of the Marathi-speaking population, adding that discussions are on between Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leaders on the way forward. Maharashtra minister and BJP leader Girish Mahajan said anyone can separate or unite in a democracy. The civic polls, especially in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) which the Uddhav Sena considers its citadel, are thus a matter of prestige for the Shiv Sena (UBT). The state government's flip-flop on the three-language policy and the introduction of Hindi as a third language proved a galvanising force for the parties led by the cousins. In the run-up to these municipal elections, the brothers have already shared the stage at a victory rally in Mumbai earlier this month to celebrate the rollback of the Hindi language GRs (resolutions) by the BJP-led government. "We have come together to stay together. We will together capture power in the Mumbai civic body and Maharashtra," Uddhav Thackeray said, evoking loud cheers from the crowd in the packed NSCI Dome in Worli. Raj Thackeray said that, after the language row, the government's next move in politics will be to divide people on caste. "The BJP's ploy is to divide and rule," he charged. "Mumbai was our right, we fought and got it. We have to expose the BJP's 'one nation, one election' idea. Slowly, they want to make everything one. Hindu and Hindustan, we agree but we won't allow Hindi. We made Marathi compulsory, we had to do it," Uddhav Thackeray had added.

Sources indicate the nominee will likely be a BJP leader with strong ideological roots in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, the party's parent organisation. Many names have been doing the rounds, from Rajnath Singh to JP Nadda to finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and speculation has also been rife about a present governor being offered this post, such as Maharashtra's CP Radhakrishnan, Gujarat's Acharya Devrat, or J&K L-G Manoj Sinha. Unlike the practice of the past, this time around, there has been no information about the government reaching out to the opposition parties yet on building consensus for the candidate for the Vice President of India. It is unlikely that the opposition will agree with the ruling side, given the acrimony that one has witnessed recently in Parliament, with the government refusing to discuss the issue that the opposition has been pursuing relentlessly regarding the SIR voter list review drive. Once bitter critics of VP Jagdeep Dhankhar, and also having moved an impeachment motion against him at the end of last year, several members of the opposition showed much sympathy towards him after his resignation. This has not gone down too well, even within several quarters of the opposition, on why this sudden sympathy for Dhankhar and linking it to a fallout between the government and him. In a major show of strength, chief ministers and deputy CMs of all NDA-ruled states are expected in Delhi on August 21—the last date for filing nominations. Senior NDA leaders will formally propose and second the candidate, with PM Modi himself expected to be the lead proposer. The Vice Presidential race will not be a walkover—opposition parties are also set to field their own contender, setting the stage for a spirited contest. The vacancy arose after Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar's sudden resignation, citing health reasons. With the post declared vacant, the Election Commission announced polls for September 9. Nominations opened on August 7 and close on August 21. MPs from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will vote to elect the country's second-highest constitutional office bearer after the President. In trademark style, the BJP has already lined up preparations—a special workshop for its MPs from September 6 to 9, expected to include mock voting drills to ensure maximum participation and error-free balloting. NDA MPs are likely to be part of similar training sessions, underlining the alliance's intent to go all out for victory. The position of the Vice President of India is extremely significant, as it is the second-highest constitutional post in the country.
