Rashmika Mandanna steps into the role of Tadaka, described as 'Roshni ki ek hi pehli kiran" (the very first ray of light). Her character promises to be the spark of hope in a universe that is set to embrace both love and chaos.
On the other end of the spectrum, Nawazuddin Siddiqui transforms into Yakshasan, hailed as the 'Andhere ka Badshah" (King of Darkness). True to his reputation, Nawazuddin is expected to bring intensity and depth to a menacing character who defines the darker shades of the story.
Adding a touch of satire and wit, veteran actor Paresh Rawal takes on the role of Mr Ram Bajaj Goyal, a man 'jo humesha comedy mein tragedy dhoondhte hain" (who always finds tragedy in comedy). His presence is set to balance the film with layers of humour amidst the bloody saga.
The makers have announced that the World of Thama will officially be unveiled tomorrow, August 19, at 11:11 am. The film follows the journey of a relentless historian who delves into ancient manuscripts, only to unearth sinister truths behind age-old vampire legends — secrets that awaken terrifying supernatural forces.
Ayushmann and Rashmika on Thama
Thama has been a challenge for Rashmika Mandanna. While talking about the film, the Pushpa star told The Nog Magazine, 'Oh my God! Thama. For Thama, we really, really put in the work. Till then, I thought, okay, I've been through it. I've seen it all. I'm 24–25 films down. What else can there be? And then Thama comes and you're like, 'Oops, I wasn't ready for that.' I feel that is going to change people's perspective of me in a way."
Meanwhile, Ayushmann, who returns to the big screen two years after Dream Girl 2 in 2023, said, 'For me, Diwali is about togetherness, it is about family, and it is about having the best community experience by spending time with your friends. I'm a big movie buff, and every year, I have a ritual to go to the theatres with my family and watch a film on Diwali! We have so much fun together, and it makes me so happy to see scores of people thronging to the theatres to watch these big releases."
He added, 'So, it feels amazing to have a big Diwali release with Thama. It is the biggest release of my career, and I'm really eager to spread joy, happiness, and laughter with the entire country with Thama. The fact that my film could be one of the reasons for people to have a great festive period feels really surreal."
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar of Munjya fame and backed by Maddock Films' Dinesh Vijan, the film promises audiences a 'bloody love story" that will light up cinemas worldwide this Diwali. The film boasts an ensemble cast and contributions from talents like Amar Kaushik, Niren Bhatt, and music by Sachin-Jigar.

Thama teaser: Ayushmann Khurrana-Rashmika Mandanna's ‘bloody' love story gets Nawazuddin Siddiqui as desi vampire
Ayushmann Khurrana will finally return to theatres after a gap of two years with Thama, another horror-comedy from Stree and Munjya maker Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films. The film also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Paresh Rawal, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. After much anticipation, the makers unveiled the film's teaser on Tuesday and described it as their 'first love story.' The teaser of Thama begins with Ayushmann's voice as he romantically talks to Rashmika. The visuals then cut to a close-up shot of Rashmika and Ayushmann, who looks wounded with bruises visible on his face. Rashmika, appearing like a supernatural character, is dressed in traditional attire and holds Ayushmann tenderly as they hang from a building. The visuals then take us into the spooky world of Thama, where strange creatures leap across trees and a goddess-like figure is shown killing a rakshas. Another eerie shot features a man drinking blood. Much like Stree, Munjya, and Bhediya, this film also seems to be laced with folklore deeply rooted in India. Following this, the teaser showcases a dance number featuring Rashmika and Ayushmann, along with a surprise appearance by Malaika Arora in a special song. Paresh Rawal also makes an appearance in the teaser, while a glimpse of Panchayat star Faisal Malik is spotted as well. The teaser ends on an interesting note with Nawazuddin Siddiqui dressed as a vampire-like character, humorously requesting the teaser to continue as he hasn't seen a love story in years. The makers shared the teaser on Instagram and wrote, 'Na darr kabhi itna shaktishaali tha, aur na pyaar kabhi itna BLOODY!🦇 Brace yourself this Diwali to witness the first love story in the Maddock Horror-Comedy Universe. Step into the World of Thama, a cinematic experience unlike anything you've seen before, storming into cinemas worldwide. #Thama Teaser Out Now!' Thama is helmed by Aditya Sarpotdar, with music composed by Sachin-Jigar. The film is slated to release this Diwali.
