Education Ministry leaving probe into liquor acution at school to authorities, says Fadhlina
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the ministry will not compromise on any form of misconduct or violation of regulations involving educational institutions.
"We have handed the matter over to the relevant authorities for investigation. We will not tolerate any misconduct or breaches of the rules. Action will be taken," she told reporters after officiating at the closing ceremony of the Madani Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 in Terengganu Saturday (July 12).
She said investigations are ongoing, including into reports of a scuffle during the auction, and the ministry will continue to monitor the case to ensure regulations are upheld and appropriate action is taken.
The incident sparked public outrage after a primary school facility in Pontian, Johor, was used to host a liquor auction, during which a fight was also reported to have occurred. - Bernama

Campers mourn tapir mascot killed near MARDI Cherating Agrotech Park
KUANTAN: A male tapir, known as a natural mascot for campers at MARDI Cherating Agrotechnology Park, died after being hit by a vehicle along Jalan Kuantan-Kemaman. National Consumer Policy 2.0 to be finalised by year-end: Armizan

PENAMPANG: The drafting of the National Consumer Policy (DPN) 2.0 is in its final phase and is expected to be finalised by year-end, said Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali. He said DPN 2.0 would serve as the main reference for all stakeholders in implementing consumer-related initiatives and programmes nationwide from 2026 to 2030. Armizan said the policy would also outline the roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders, including those indirectly involved with consumer affairs. 'The relationship between these various stakeholders is crucial to ensuring effective implementation of consumer protection laws and the dissemination of accurate, comprehensive information to help create empowered Malaysian consumers,' he said in his speech at the 2025 Consumerism Festival here today. Themed 'Semarak Konsumerisme', the three-day festival, which concluded today, marked the highlight of the 2025 National Consumer Day celebration and drew participation from school and university students nationwide. The programme was organised as a key platform to gather recommendations and views on DPN 2.0, which will serve as part of the input in finalising the formulation of the consumer policy. Armizan said DPN 2.0 was also designed to enhance preparedness in addressing current challenges within the consumer ecosystem, including weaknesses in regulatory and enforcement aspects, as well as low consumer literacy levels that were prone to exploitation. He said other challenges included the use of products that did not comply with safety standards or were not environmentally friendly, fraudulent transactions, and the misuse of digital technology, particularly artificial intelligence. According to him, DPN 2.0 would also place emphasis on cost of living issues through an inclusive and responsive approach, including the implementation of the Payung Rahmah Madani Programme, broader use of the Ihsan Madani Portal as a reference for price and essential goods information, and the application of cost of living indicators to guide consumer spending. Meanwhile, Armizan said the Kita Pengguna Squad (Skip) would be mobilised as a bridge between the government and the people in addressing consumerism issues in a more responsive and inclusive manner, forming the foundation for the effective implementation of DPN 2.0. Dead tapir a 'regular visitor' to Cherating Mardi agro park
KUANTAN: The male tapir that was killed in a collision with a vehicle on Jalan Kuantan-Kemaman here was a "mascot" for campers as it was frequently spotted at the Mardi Cherating Agrotechnology Park near here. "The driver, a 41-year-old man, was unhurt," he said in a statement on Sunday. Police were dispatched to the scene to ensure traffic safety on the poorly lit stretch of road. Adli added that the tapir's carcass was handed over to the Pahang Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) for further action. Badrol Hisham Mohamad, 44, who was among the first at the scene, said he immediately alerted the police and Perhilitan. "Several motorists also stopped to help direct traffic as the carcass was lying in the middle of the road and posed a danger to others," said the Kampung Sungai Ular resident. The Mardi Cherating Agrotechnology Park, in a Facebook post, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the tapir's death as a major blow to wildlife lovers.
