Inside Jonathan Ross' hugely famous family, split from wife and rarely-seen son

Daily Mirror24-05-2025
Jonathan Ross has been a major TV personality since the 1980s but he isn't the only famous face in his household
Jonathan Ross has been a prominent figure in the television industry since the 1980s, but he's not the only star in his family.
The beloved TV personality first graced our screens back in 1987 with The Last Resort with Jonathan Ross on Channel 4. Since then, he's hosted a plethora of shows, including his long-standing chat show and is readying to dazzle Traitors fans in the first ever celebrity special.

His work in television, radio presenting, and advertising has amassed him a considerable fortune, with an estimated net worth of £30 million.

Off-screen, he enjoys a blissful family life with his wife of nearly 27 years, screenwriter Jane Goldman, with the pair exchanging vows in an intimate ceremony back in 1988 when she was just 18 years old.
The pair who now share three children together - Betty Kitten, 33, Harvey Kirby, 31, and Honey Kinney, 28, - met when Jonathan was 26 and Jane 16, when she was working as a showbiz journalist.
Despite the many highs the celebrity couple has faced, there has been an equal measure of lows when their marriage hit the rocks.
The split
In 1999, the marital bliss hit rocky ground as Jane's battle with depression and a subsequent breakdown which required treatment at the Priory Clinic. This lead to the couple taking some time apart from one another.
At the time, their joint statement read: "Jane, who suffers from depression, recently had a breakdown for which she checked into the Priory Clinic for treatment.

"As a result of this very stressful period a great deal of strain has been put on the marriage. Jane and Jonathan's main concern at the moment is the happiness and security of their children."
Rarely seen son
Middle child Harvey is the least known family member and tends to avoid the public eye as much as possible. But more recently, he did bask in the spotlight next to his father and sister Honey, on the set of Celebrity Gogglebox.

Despite Harvey intending to keep a low profile and private matters under wraps, his dad and sister accidentally spilled details that he was due to be married soon.
During an episode of the Table Manners podcast with Jessie and Lennie Ware, with Honey also making a guest appearance with her famous dad, they began to discuss homelife and talk soon turned to Harvey.
Jonathan couldn't resist a playful dig at his son's hair maintenance habits, he joked: "Harvey has got the longest hair in the family, and largely unwashed. He doesn't wash it often because he's part of that gang who think you shouldn't use soaps."

Honey, slipping in a celebratory note, revealed: "He did just get engaged!" with Jonathan hinting at future family plans saying: "They're thinking of starting a family next year."
Betty's serious health issues
Meanwhile eldest daughter Betty, has been tackling serious health problems and has been brave enough to open up about her struggles, this following a fibromyalgia diagnosis in 2021.

Jane and Jonathan's eldest daughter was later diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome and postural tachycardia syndrome, a condition that causes a rapid increase in heart rate upon standing, often resulting in dizziness. Due to all of her individual conditions, Betty now needs to reply on an electric wheelchair for mobility.
Jonathan has never shied away from sharing his support and admiration, commenting to the Express: "It's been a tough couple of years for her [Betty] in particular, but she is getting slowly better."
TV star daughter

Their youngest daughter, Honey, is a model and an advocate for body positivity. She also co-hosts a podcast with her famous father called Reel Talk, where they chat about their favourite TV shows and films. Recently, she shared her distress over her family's "overexposure" on the show.
She has previously opened up about her struggles with self-esteem and during a stint on Loose Women, she urged other parents not to put their children on diets, stating: "They saw me, a teenage girl, coming home saying, 'I hate my body', They tried to give me solutions to a problem I brought to them, which was to lose weight.
"They presented me with diets and diets, as we know, don't work and are absolutely toxic. My advice to parents is keep that as far away from your children as possible, if you want them to have a good relationship with food and their bodies growing up do not shame them."

Other famous members
In addition to his numerous pets and children, Jonathan's brother Paul also gained recognition as a TV presenter on Channel 4's popular breakfast show The Big Breakfast, among other telly stints.
Another notable member of the family includes his late mother Martha, who became a well-known face on EastEnders.
The Jonathan Ross show is currently available to stream over on ITVX.

Rock the Crossbar brings musicians and footballers to West Lothian for a great cause

Jonathan and Michael Ward wanted to raise money for the Maggie's Centre in Edinburgh Two brothers brought celebrities from the music and footballing worlds together for an entertaining day of fundraising at two West Lothian venues. ‌ Brothers Jonathan and Michael Ward wanted to raise money for the Maggie's Centre in Edinburgh and came up with the idea of Rock the Crossbar – two linked events – a celebrity football tournament and a concert. ‌ They chose Maggie's in memory of 20-year-old son Jay Schumacher from Livingston who passed away almost a decade ago. Jay's parents, Morris and Claire, run Neo Recruitment, the recruitment partner of Jonathan's own business. ‌ Rock the Crossbar, a play on The Clash's song Rock the Casbah, kicked off with a football tournament at The Volley Park in Armadale featuring former Scotland players Jonathan said: 'We had a 12-team seven-a-side tournament during the day. It was brilliant, what a day. It was a mix of local businesses and celebrities, and four ex-Scotland international players. 'We had Charlie Mulgrew, Kris Boyd, Colin Hendry and Simon Donnelly all playing. Charlie Mulgrew is still an absolute player and took his team to the final. 'The others were good in spells. They were all tremendous and came along and got really involved. 'The Darkness also had a full team with three of the five band members playing. ‌ 'The football was brilliant, the stadium was packed out and it was played in great spirit.' The events are part of a year of fundraising which so far has raised £38,000, including £17,500 from Jonathan's company, Spring Solutions in Bathgate, which provides supply chain solutions for the aerospace industry. ‌ He continued: 'We are doing a whole series of events which started with my wife and I skydiving, and has involved the majority of our team doing a Tough Mudder as well as some individual events. 'A full year of fundraising will finish when my Michael and I take on the London Marathon next year.' Michael is involved in music management and was well placed to handle the logistics of the evening entertainment event, a concert at the Regal Theatre in Bathgate. ‌ 'Michael manages Ben Walker and organised the music side of it,' said Jonathan. 'We had the idea for a football tournament to follow on from the golf day we done, and my Michael just ran with it. He used a lot of his contacts in the music industry and together, though mostly him, and with the help of some very kind volunteers and businesses we pieced together this incredible event. ‌ 'The evening event was on a completely different level to anything I've seen before, the live jam would have been at home on any stage in the world. I couldn't believe this was in our hometown. 'On days like this there are no losers, hundreds of people coming together to have an excellent time, watching amazing entertainment and raising money for a beautiful cause. It was such an honour to play a part in bringing it together. 'We took the guys out from The Darkness for breakfast the next day and about 20 people asked Justin for photos. They had actually played in front of 10,000 people the day before.'
