Chiwetel Ejiofor & Cristin Milioti Eyed To Star In ‘The Backrooms' At A24

Yahoo21-05-2025
Chiwetel Ejiofor and Cristin Milioti are in talks to star in The Backrooms, A24's sci-fi horror flick based on the viral series of found-footage videos from Kane Parsons, Deadline can confirm.
Reps for the studio declined to comment. No word on the roles to be played by the duo, and their deals may not make in the end, as it's still early days here. We were first to report on the project back in 2023, and while its plot remains a mystery, the '90s-set original short watches as a young filmmaker's fall into another dimension leaves him wandering through an unsettlingly yellow, empty and labyrinthine office space, which may or may not be home to otherworldly beings. The film's title and setting draw inspiration from the imagery of a creepypasta (or internet urban legend) published to the website 4chan in 2019.

Aubrey Plaza to star as Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss in new biopic

Aubrey Plaza is set to return to the spotlight with a characteristically offbeat new role portraying Heidi Fleiss, the infamous Hollywood madam. Titled 'The Heidi Fleiss Story,' the dark comedy biopic will follow the chaotic final days leading up to Fleiss's 1993 arrest, when authorities exposed her high-end prostitution ring operating in Los Angeles, according to Deadline and other industry publications. Plaza, who splits her time between Los Angeles and Marin County, will star and produce the film through her company, Evil Hag. The project marks her first major role since the death of her husband, filmmaker Jeff Baena, in January. Fleiss rose to prominence in the early 1990s for allegedly running a clandestine operation that catered to celebrities, executives and other powerful figures. She was said to have taken over the business from her mentor, convicted madam Elizabeth 'Madam Alex' Adams, and quickly expanded it into a multimillion-dollar enterprise. That empire collapsed in June 1993, when Fleiss was arrested and later charged with pandering, tax evasion and money laundering. Prosecutors alleged she laundered more than $1.5 million through shell companies and false records. The case drew national headlines, fueled by speculation over a still-sealed list of high-profile clients. Plaza has been gradually returning to public life following Baena's death by suicide. In February, she appeared on 'SNL50: The Anniversary Special,' wearing a pink tie-dyed T-shirt — a quiet tribute to Baena's pandemic-era hobby and the couple's wedding-day attire. The pair had been together for more than a decade, though they had separated in the months before his death. Plaza's upcoming slate also includes a leading role in 'Honey Don't!,' the latest film from Ethan Coen, arriving in theaters on Aug. 22. She also appears in Francis Ford Coppola 's 'Megalopolis' and previously earned praise for her performances in 'The White Lotus' Season 2 and in the Sundance Film Festival favorite ' My Old Ass. ' Next, she'll star alongside Susan Sarandon in 'The Accompanist,' an indie drama that marks the feature directorial debut of 'The Office' alum Zach Woods.

Deleted Scene From JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH Reveals Missed Velociraptor Showdown — GeekTyrant

One of the most iconic creatures in the Jurassic Park universe almost had a bigger role in Jurassic World Rebirth , and now fans are wishing it hadn't been left on the cutting room floor. A newly surfaced deleted scene reveals that the velociraptors were originally set to make a suspense-filled comeback in the climactic finale. Jurassic World Rebirth marked a new era for the dino-packed franchise that started with Steven Spielberg's 1993 classic. The film followed a new expedition team, led by Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Mahershala Ali, and Rupert Friend, who venture to the dinosaur-infested Île Saint-Hubert in search of DNA that could cure human heart disease. While the film delivered a thrilling climax featuring the monstrous Distortus Rex and a deadly pack of Mutadons inside an abandoned InGen facility, it turns out the scene was almost even more intense. The deleted moment shows that the expedition team and the stranded Delgado family were originally going to encounter a pack of velociraptors at the facility, a nod that would've tied the film more closely to its roots. The raptors, first seen terrorizing Isla Nublar in the original Jurassic Park , are franchise legends. Over the years, the raptors have remained central across The Lost World: Jurassic Park , Jurassic Park III , and the Jurassic World trilogy, especially with 'Blue' becoming a fan-favorite alongside Owen Grady, played by Chris Pratt. In Rebirth , though, the classic dinos were mostly sidelined to make way for new genetically-altered threats. The only real raptor appearance was early in the film when Xavier, played by David Iacono, takes a quick bathroom break, only to be stalked, and immediately killed, by a velociraptor before it's snatched away by a Mutadon. It was a quick way to show off the new creature's dominance, but it also diminished the raptor's legacy. Adding salt to the wound, Rebirth actually introduced a fresh design for the velociraptors. The scrapped moment is a callback to Jurassic Park III , where Billy tried to steal raptor eggs. Even though Gareth Edwards' film has been a major hit, this cut scene feels like a missed opportunity. Seeing the velociraptors return for a suspenseful standoff in the final act could've given Jurassic World Rebirth , an extra jolt of energy.
