
Kerala Tourism to complete 100 projects this year
A high-level review meeting, chaired by Tourism Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas, here has decided to complete around 100 tourism projects at the initiative of the Department of Tourism this year.
The meeting, attended by higher officials of Kerala Tourism on Tuesday, also discussed the ongoing projects as well as those in the pipeline.
The Minister directed the officials to set an accurate time-frame for the completion of the current projects and follow up each phase of them in a systematic and time-bound manner. The Minister will also assign officials to ensure the timely completion of the projects. The meeting also decided to bring out an advanced event calendar of Kerala Tourism's flagship programmes such as Onam celebration, Champions Boat League, New Year lighting and Beypore Fest.
Mr. Riyas suggested the beginning of preparations for the events conducted by Kerala Tourism. 'A dedicated system will be set up to evaluate the progress of the projects approved by the Centre as per the suggestions of the State government. An order has been issued for implementation of more projects that came up at the Tourism Investors Meet,' the Minister said.
The meeting also approved an action plan for developing WE-Parks across the State utilising spaces under overbridges. The Kerala Tourism Infrastructure Ltd. (KTIL) will take up the construction of these parks.

Akshay Labroo is new deputy commissioner (DC) Srinagar while Faz Lul Haseeb will be new commissioner of Srinagar municipal corporation (MC) as the Jammu and Kashmir administration on Wednesday made various transfers and postings of IAS officers. Mohammad Alyas Khan, additional secretary in the lieutenant governor's secretariat, was transferred and posted as Ramban DC. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, awaiting orders of adjustment in the general administration department, has been posted as secretary to the government, science and technology department. He shall also hold the charge of administrative secretary, civil aviation department, in addition to his own duties. Owais Ahmed, Srinagar MC commissioner, has been posted as director, food, civil supplies and consumer affairs, Kashmir. Gurpal Singh, awaiting orders of adjustment in the general administration department, was posted as director, social welfare, Jammu.

Malaysia Airlines expands operations from Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram, June 11 (UNI) Malaysia Airlines is significantly expanding its operations from Trivandrum Airport, underlining Kerala's growing role as an international hub for South India. Starting 6 June, flights from Trivandrum will increase from four to five times weekly, complementing daily flights from Kochi and bring the airline's total services from Kerala to 12 weekly flights, a release said. This enhanced connectivity reflects strong outbound demand from the region and strengthens access to Malaysia Airlines' global network of over 68 global destinations via Kuala Lumpur, including Australia, Japan, Singapore and New Zealand. Across India, the airline now operates more than 76 weekly flights from 10 cities. The announcement, made jointly by the Happy Valley Adventure Bureau (HVAB) and Centre County Commissioners , marks the largest disbursement in the history of the region's Tourism Grant Program The funding, drawn from Centre County's hotel occupancy tax, is designed to enhance visitor experiences and promote long-term growth through cultural events, local attractions, and heritage tourism. The initiative was unveiled at Rolling Rails Lodge in Port Matilda under the theme 'Tourism in Bloom,' reflecting the region's emphasis on inclusive and diversified travel offerings.'Topping the one-million-dollar mark is a tremendous milestone for the Tourism Grant Program,' said Fritz Smith, President and CEO of HVAB. 'It's a visible example of how a strong tourism economy, particularly through overnight stays, benefits our entire community.'Among the 81 funded projects, 11 are first-time recipients, including the Happy Valley Latin Festival. Now in its fifth year, the festival will benefit from increased marketing support to expand its reach during Hispanic Heritage Month. 'Thanks to this support, we'll be able to reach a wider audience for our bilingual, inclusive celebration of Latinx and Hispanic culture,' said Ady Martinez, Festival Higgins, Chair of the Centre County Commissioners, highlighted the broader economic context.
