NEWS OF THE WEEK: Suki Waterhouse hospitalised for hernia caused by tight trousers

Yahoo4 days ago
Waterhouse made the revelation when she took to Twitter on Monday, to respond to fans who have been wondering why she hasn't been tweeting that much this year. ''Suki you never tweet anymore' - have you ever considered I wore pants so tight six months ago it caused a hernia and I've been too scared to tell you?' Suki also tweeted a selfie taken from her hospital bed and an image of herself performing on the supporting tour for her Memoir of a Sparklemuffin album. The concert photo showed Suki wearing figure-hugging black leather pants.

Gen Z Has Lost Its Mind

For most of Gen Z, they've only known a world with smartphones and tap-to-pay. Therefore, they are reinventing the wheel and taking concepts from an analog society. Riley Gaines silences critics after completing daring 1.25-mile Alcatraz swim while pregnant

Riley Gaines swam from the infamous Alcatraz prison to shore just as she did last year, but this time, she did so 31 weeks pregnant. That detail led many to bash Gaines on social media, but she had time on OutKick's "Gaines for Girls" podcast to fire right back. Gaines did the roughly 1.25-mile swim alongside U.S. Navy SEALs and combat veterans, as well as her husband, after getting clearance from her OBGYN. She posted to social media a picture of herself after the swim, and quickly received vitriol. She said the act "broke the minds of liberals." Then, Gaines read aloud a few comments and gave her take on each. "'I guess putting your baby at a risk for click was a decision,'" Gaines read aloud. "I wonder where he got his doctorate. I didn't know Twitter had so many OBGYNs or doctors who suddenly know more about pregnancy and exercising while pregnant than my OB did, who cleared me to do this." Another X user wrote: "Maybe not the best time to swim in the ocean then lol but what do I know." "Nothing," Gaines retorted. "You know nothing, at least about pregnancy and exercising while pregnant." Gaines read another comment, which asked why she would think about doing this while pregnant. "I think I feel so great, and I have the entire time, because I have done things like this regularly, whether being pregnant or not being pregnant," Gaines said. Finally, Gaines read her favorite reply. "I love this one. This guy says – this is pretty amazing. He says, 'Imagine the torturous, horrific conditions for the fetus. Breathing, muscles squeezing, adrenaline overdosing, massive pressure on the cervix, womb, sack, and fetus. Then, the sloshing and incredibly loud noises. Quite the sadistic torture. Hope the fetus survives the mother's idiocy to be born, healthy. Poor baby…' "First of all, my developing child in the womb is not a fetus, at this point. If she were to be born, obviously not ideal to be born nine weeks early and no one is to say for certain what will happen. But viability is 24-ish weeks." Alcatraz was opened in 1934, but it didn't even last three decades before closing. Located on an island off the shore in the San Francisco Bay, it was categorized as practically escape-proof, though 14 documented attempts were made. Among them were the Anglin brothers, John and Clarence, as well as Frank Morris, who tried to escape on June 11, 1962. It was later turned into a movie, "Escape from Alcatraz," as it remains a mystery to this day whether they reached shore and survived, or drowned, as the FBI concluded due to harsh conditions. Gaines hosts the "Gaines for Girls" podcast on OutKick, where she discusses what has occurred with transgender individuals participating in girls' and women's sports.

Ben Askren released from hospital, delivers tearful video message on ride home

Ben Askren is finally home. An MMA and wrestling legend, Askren revealed he was released from the hospital Tuesday nearly two months after he entered due to a severe case of pneumonia. Askren underwent a double lung transplant four weeks ago. "Day 59, I'm out with my beautiful wife supporter," Askren said. "Man, that was a long journey, and it's not over because I still can't really walk. I've got to reteach myself to do that, among many other things. I guess I can make light of it because it was me, and I don't really remember it. ... I don't remember 35 days of this journey. I think surgery was 24 or 25 days ago. It was hard. It was hard. "I said this already in one of the videos, but the support you guys gave me, whether it was starting a GoFundMe, whether it was helping my kids and wife get through it, I had friends come from all over the country to hang out for a couple days. It meant so much. It was so great to just have all the support and all the love. Hopefully I'm not in this situation again for a really, really, really, really long time. I plan on living a while. Thank you guys again for all the positive comments online, everything. It means so much. Love you guys." Askren, 40, recently revealed he died four times as he battled for his life. He lost 50 pounds in 45 days and was not aware for nearly half of that time. Askren said when he became conscious, he read through all of the supportive messages and felt as if he had attended his own funeral. He was on a ventilator prior to his transplant procedure. It's still unclear how Askren ended up being hospitalized, though he and his wife Amy have indicated they might reveal more details as time progresses. The news drew widespread reaction from the combat sports world, with numerous athletes, wrestlers, and the UFC publicly expressing thoughts and prayers for the former ONE and Bellator champion. The UFC's June 14 broadcast featured a segment wishing Askren well. A T-shirt fundraiser has been launched to help with Askren's medical bills, as well as his mission to help support high-level athletes. After his win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. last month, Jake Paul used his post-fight interview time to express support for Askren and raise awareness about his life-changing situation. Dana White was asked and confirmed that he donated $10,000 to Askren's GoFundMe. Askren retired from MMA in 2019 but returned for a one-off boxing bout vs. Paul in 2021. Widely considered one of the greatest amateur wrestlers in U.S. history, Askren remains heavily involved with the wrestling community and recently joined Hulk Hogan's Real American Freestyle.
