Swansen delivers game-winner in ninth for Nebraska's 7-6 victory over Kansas State
Nebraska (22-23) and Kansas State (26-19) met in Lincoln for a midweek single-game clash on Tuesday night. The Huskers took the win on the night, ending the game with a massive three-run double to win 7-6.
Gabe Swansen delivered the game-winning hit with two outs, sending the ball down the left-field line to bring in Cayden Brumbaugh, Robby Bolin and Dylan Carey for the win.
Nebraska entered the bottom of the ninth after surrendering four straight runs to the Wildcats. Kansas State took the lead in the seventh, going up 5-4, responding to the Huskers' three runs in the sixth.
Even after the Wildcats added one more run in the ninth, Nebraska rallied to get the win.
The Huskers finished with nine hits for six RBIs and also scored following a bunt and a throwing error. Kansas State delivered six hits for five RBIs.
Dylan Carey finished 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the team in hits, while Swansen led in RBIs with three off his game-winning blast. Case Sanderson drove in two runs off his lone hit in the sixth: A two-run RBI single. Hogan Helligso followed Sanderson in the sixth, striking his only hit of the game for an RBI.
Gavin Blachowicz (3-0) got the win at the mound for Nebraska, punching out the final two batters in the ninth. Tucker Timmerman started the game, pitching 2.2 innings and allowing one run off two hits while striking out two.
Nebraska remains home for its next series, welcoming Minnesota for a three-game conference clash starting on Friday night. The first pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. CT on B1G+.

College football analyst reveals thoughts about Bill Belichick coaching UNC football
Will Bill Belichick work out at UNC? The North Carolina Tar Heels are nowhere close to a college football powerhouse, but they made a massive move this offseason in hopes they become a future powerhouse. In December 2024, UNC hired 8-time Super Bowl Champion Bill Belichick to be their next head coach. Belichick started his coaching career with the then-Baltimore Colts in 1975, coaching in the NFL until January 2024 with the New England Patriots. The Tar Heels are hoping that Belichick can find success early on in his college coaching career. But some analysts are not convinced he will. On his latest podcast, 247Sports' Josh Pate said he doesn't think the Belichick experiment will work at North Carolina. 'Swallow this about North Carolina: I flat out don't think it's (Belichick) going to work," Pate said. "I don't think that college football is remotely as comparable to the NFL, as the broad brush artists out there tend to paint it. Even if you have the investment, let's just say North Carolina's invested. A lot of the feedback I've gotten is they're taking it seriously. They're not going to pay him $10 million a year, but not get behind him. Even if you're behind him, you gotta go out-recruit Georgia or Alabama, or Clemson, or Miami. You can't just try and stay close to them and hope to out-develop them. Cause they're good at developing and recruiting.' Despite Belichick's extensive professional success, he's a first-time college coach. Belichick is no stranger to college football, spending his early childhood days in Kenan Stadium with his father, but hasn't coached a collegiate game before. There's plenty of hope weaving its way through Chapel Hill right now, as the Tar Heels have a multi-time Super Bowl Champion coaching them. In a perfect world, UNC wins the CFP National Championship this fall, but there's also plenty of risk with a first-time college coach. Belichick's collegiate coaching debut will come Monday, September 1 at 8 p.m. against TCU, with the Horned Frogs traveling to Kenan Stadium for a primetime kickoff on ESPN. How North Carolina plays in that game will be a key, early indicator of if the Belichick experiment. Michigan defensive end Derrick Moore throws water on Ohio State CFP national title
As if the rivalry between Ohio State and Michigan needed any more gasoline thrown on the fire, it got a little at Big Ten football media days this week. That came on the heels of two players from each side guaranteeing multiple-year victories over the others (Jeremiah Smith was one), in an offseason when we saw the temperature rise to one of the highest levels it ever had after the Buckeyes lost to the Wolverines last fall. The latest comments that will end up on a bulletin board somewhere in the Woody Hayes Athletic Center come from Michigan defensive end Derrick Moore. He was one of the three players on hand for Michigan out in Las Vegas for the annual media days and didn't pull any punches when he was asked how he felt about the Wolverines' arch-rival going on a historic run to win the College Football Playoff national championship after losing for the fourth straight time to Michigan. "I'll congratulate them on the win. But you know it's not a real win if y'all ain't beat us," Moore said when talking to reporters. "I'm gonna congratulate them on their win, but this year, it's gonna be different." He then took it a bit further and even took a bit of credit for the banner Ohio State will hang as a result of the national championship while delivering an underhanded compliment. "If the playoff extension wasn't around, they wouldn't have won the national championship," Moore continued. "We pretty much look at it like, 'Hey man, y'all had an easy little run. We helped y'all along the way. So we pretty much helped y'all build back up.' But like I said, after that game, they dominated everybody that came in front of them. So I've got to give all the credit to them." At this point, the amount of anticipation and vitriol surrounding the game in 2025 can't get much higher unless there are some very, very significant things at stake. There's enough bulletin board material to make a collage out of, so any further comments probably won't amount to much. Can we just do the talking on the field at this point?
