Ludhiana: Class 10 toppers step into DC's role for 1 day
Three bright minds of Ludhiana stepped into the world of public administration under the 'Ek Din, DC/SSP De Sang' initiative, on Tuesday. Class 10 toppers Mehakpreet Kaur, Sanyam Jindal, and Yusana got the opportunity to spend a day with Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain, gaining a first-hand look at the daily workings of the district administration.
The trio, Mehakpreet from Government High School, Ghungrali Rajputan, with a score of 97.85%, Sanyam from Government High School, Kakowal, who scored 96.92%, and Yusana from Government Model Senior Secondary School, Cemetery Road, with 96.77%, were welcomed by the DC over breakfast. Sharing his journey from a modest background in Jind, Haryana, to becoming an IAS officer, Himanshu Jain urged the students to dream big, stay focused, and never resort to shortcuts. He emphasised that discipline and consistency are key to turning aspirations into achievements.
The students then accompanied DC to his office, where they observed how different departments work in coordination to keep the district running. From handling public grievances to supervising development projects and managing crises, like the recent blackout in Ludhiana, the students were given a complete tour of the DC's responsibilities and decision-making processes. They were also taken through various branches of the district office to understand how government departments function on the ground.
Their journey continued with visits to important institutions such as the district bureau of employment & enterprises (DBEE), Bal Bhawan, and the Red Cross Office. At each location, the students interacted with officials and learned how these bodies support employment, child welfare, and social services. A special lunch was also organised, where assistant commissioner Payal Goyal joined in to inspire the young achievers through her own experience in public service.
Mehakpreet called the day 'truly exciting' and said it strengthened her desire to give back to society. Sanyam shared that the exposure has encouraged him to consider a future in public service, while Yusana said the visit gave her a deeper understanding of governance and inspired her to aim higher.

Her first task as DC was to inspect an earthquake mock drill, where she interacted with officials and reviewed disaster management preparedness. Later, she visited different branches of the DC office to understand their roles and operations. She also participated in a public grievance session, where she listened to complaints and directed concerned departments to resolve them. Calling it the most memorable day of her life, Anvi expressed gratitude to the district administration and said the experience gave her a new perspective on governance and leadership. "Today I got to know closely the work of a Deputy Commissioner, his responsibilities and the administrative process," she said. Deputy Commissioner Apoorva Devgan said the 'DC for a Day' initiative is part of the Mandi administration's continued efforts to motivate students and develop leadership skills, confidence, and social responsibility in them. The campaign follows earlier initiatives like 'Apna Vidyalaya' and 'Apna Pustakalaya'.

Koppal: The ADC Sidrameshwara highlighted the importance of extensive participation in International Yoga Day (June 21), calling for effective promotional activities to guarantee significant public engagement. In a preliminary meeting at the DC's office on Friday regarding the celebrations for the day, he said the event will start at 6.30am on June 21 at the taluk stadium. This event, jointly organised by the district administration, ZP, district AYUSH department, and several yoga organisations, will include yoga sessions. He directed the officials of the departments of AYUSH, rchool education, PU education, and residential education departments, to ensure good participation from students, public representatives, and community members. Deputy commissioner of Uttara Kannada urges for peaceful Bakrid celebrations
Karwar: Deputy commissioner of Uttara Kannada, K Lakshmipriya, urged leaders of all communities to celebrate the Bakrid festival, a symbol of sacrifice, peacefully and harmoniously in the district. The DC instructed that the festival be celebrated in a traditional manner without disturbing law and order or hurting religious sentiments. She assured that the district administration will take precautionary measures for this purpose. She also directed the officials of the urban development department to prioritise waste disposal during Bakrid, and to manage it systematically. Additionally, officials from the animal husbandry and revenue departments were instructed to provide all necessary support to the police department. To prevent illegal cattle transportation, 24 checkposts have been set up by the police department, and offenders involved in such activities can face up to 7 years of imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs 10 lakh. The DC advised public not to believe any fake news on social media that could incite religious sentiments, and encouraged them to contact the district administration and police control rooms for accurate information. She urged people of all faiths to engage in peaceful and harmonious celebrations of Bakrid. District police superintendent Narayan M mentioned that peace meetings have been conducted in all police station jurisdictions to maintain peace and harmony during Bakrid. Social media platforms are being monitored 24/7 to prevent the spread of fake news. A heightened police presence has been arranged for four days during Bakrid. He warned against inflammatory speeches and urged the public to immediately inform the nearest police station of any law violations, assuring strict action against offenders. Leaders of Hindu and Muslim organisations present at the meeting emphasised that the district is known for its peace, and will not allow any untoward incidents during Bakrid. They committed to celebrating the festival peacefully and harmoniously, and assured continuous support to the district administration for maintaining a peaceful environment.
