Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi while attending Labor Day ceremony in Suez
CAIRO - 3 May 2025: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi honored a group of Egyptian workers on Saturday for their diligent and sincere efforts, as well as some distinguished and inspiring models who have enriched the labor union life in Egypt.
This took place on Saturday during the Labor Day celebration in Suez Governorate.
During the ceremony, President Sisi reviewed via video conference a presentation of new successful private sector factories during Labor Day celebrations in Suez. Among them was Arco Steel, described by its managing director as the only specialized steel producer in the Middle East. The company has added two production lines for wires used in railway sleeper manufacturing, with a current capacity of 25,000 tons annually. The project covers 20,000 square meters and involves investments of EGP 500 million. It plans to add 28 more lines on 165,000 square meters with EGP 6 billion in funding. This expansion is expected to create 1,500 jobs and raise annual capacity to 400,000 tons, enabling full local production of railway sleeper wires.
The company is also building a cold-rolled and galvanized steel facility with a 350,000-ton capacity to serve the automotive and appliance industries and reduce import dependence.
During the ceremony marking Labor Day, Dr. Saied Kamel, Chairman and CEO of Utopia Pharmaceuticals, presented the company's new plant in 10th of Ramadan City. He said that the plant was built on 18,000 square meters with investments totaling EGP 1.35 billion, adding that it also operates six production lines, with an annual capacity of 120 million packages, and employs 1,100 workers directly and 300 indirectly. Kamel clarified that the plant produces 52 medicines, including 19 that substitute imported versions using 70–90% local components. Sales last year reached 2 million packages, saving the country about $16 million, he mentioned. For his part, Ahmed Dawy, CFO of Beko Egypt, said that the company's new appliance complex was built with Turkish investments worth $110 million over 114,000 square meters. It will produce 1.5 million refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers, and freezers annually, with 65% of output intended for export, he added.
The plant supports about 2,000 indirect jobs and targets $250 million in annual exports, he stated.
President Sisi also inaugurated the second phase of the Suez Steel Company.
This came as part of the Labor Day celebration held on Saturday at the Suez Steel Company in Suez, in north-eastern Egypt, Presidential Spokesman Mohamed el Shennawy said.

Luxor's Al Moudira Named One of World's Most Beautiful Hotels in 2025
The iconic hotel just became the first in Egypt to win the Prix Versailles—naming it one of the most beautiful in the business. A kaleidoscope of ochre courtyards, antique archways, and palm-shaded pathways, Al Moudira, a Relais & Châteaux hotel, has always felt more like a dreamscape than a stay. Tucked at the edge of Luxor's West Bank, where pharaonic tombs slumber beneath desert sands, this singular sanctuary has quietly captivated aesthetes, artists, and soul-searchers for over two decades. Now, it has earned a new kind of reverence—officially named one of 'The World's Most Beautiful Hotels 2025' by the Prix Versailles. Announced annually at UNESCO, the prize honours properties that strike a rare balance between heritage, innovation, and intelligent sustainability. Among this year's 16 winners across the globe, Al Moudira is not only the sole Egyptian hotel on the list—it is also the first in Egypt ever to receive this recognition. Built from the ground up by Lebanese hotelier Zeina Aboukheir and architect Olivier Sednaoui, Al Moudira was never meant to be just a hotel. It is a vision carved from sun-baked stone and stitched with the textures of the Levant: mashrabiya lattices, hand-painted tiles, vaulted ceilings, and vintage Damascene fabrics sourced from souqs long gone. Every corner whispers of craftsmanship and care. Yet the beauty here is not just architectural—it's agricultural, cultural, and deeply communal. The hotel's adjoining farm now feeds its kitchens with up to 80% of their produce, depending on the season. Nearby village homes have been restored in vernacular style with Al Moudira's help, while local children learn English onsite and artisans are trained in traditional crafts. From regenerative farming to sustainable sourcing, the ethos is simple: build beauty that gives back. As Prix Versailles notes, the award celebrates places that are 'at once grounded and visionary.' And Al Moudira—forever grounded in Luxor's history, yet always planting something new—embodies that to the letter.

CENTCOM Chief Praises Pakistan's Role Against ISIS-K
Israa Farhan The Commander of United States Central Command (CENTCOM), General Michael Kurilla, has commended Pakistan's critical partnership in combating the transnational terrorist group ISIS-Khorasan (ISIS-K), characterizing the nation as a pivotal ally in global counterterrorism efforts. Speaking before the House Foreign Affairs Committee on Tuesday, General Kurilla highlighted Pakistan's robust intelligence cooperation with the United States, which has led to significant operational successes against ISIS-K. He noted that Pakistan's sustained counterterrorism campaign has severely weakened the group's operational capabilities in the region. General Kurilla detailed how ongoing Taliban operations in Afghanistan have forced ISIS-K fighters into the tribal borderlands between Afghanistan and Pakistan. It is in these regions, he said, that Pakistani forces, bolstered by US intelligence, have captured multiple high-value operatives and disrupted planned attacks. Among the successes cited was the arrest of Jafar, a central figure in the 2021 Abbey Gate suicide bombing in Kabul, which killed 13 US service members. General Kurilla revealed that Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, personally contacted him to confirm Jafar's capture and readiness for extradition to the United States. General Kurilla also outlined ISIS-K's global threat profile, linking the group to high-casualty attacks such as the Crocus City Hall massacre in Moscow and the Kerman bombing in Iran. He added that further intelligence regarding ISIS-K plots targeting the U.S. would be shared in a classified setting. Despite the persistent threat, Kurilla asserted that ISIS-K is currently at a low point, largely due to Pakistan's ongoing military pressure. He acknowledged the heavy price Pakistan has paid, citing over 1,000 terrorist incidents since early 2024, resulting in the deaths of approximately 700 security personnel and 2,500 civilians. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean News 3 Killed in Shooting Attack in Thailand
