Prateik Babbar accepts there were complications between mom Smita Patil, dad Raj Babbar's wife Nadira: ‘Real reason why I didn't invite him to my wedding'
Actor Prateik Smita Patil tied the knot with girlfriend Priya Banerjee in February this year. However, what made headlines was the absence of his father, veteran actor Raj Babbar, and his half-siblings Aarya Babbar and Juhi Babbar from the ceremony. In a recent interaction, Prateik explained that since the wedding took place at his late mother Smita Patil's home, it would have been 'unethical' to invite his father's family due to the complicated history between Raj Babbar's wife, Nadira, and Smita Patil.
During an interaction with Times Now, Prateik said, 'My father's wife and my mother had some complications in the past, lots of things have been said in the press and stuff like that if you dig out 38-40 years ago. I was open to doing something with my father and his family for another function. I just thought it was unethical to have him and his family at that house when after everything had went on between them. Absolutely, it wasn't right.'
Prateik stressed that the decision was made to honour his mother, who raised him alone. He said, 'I'm sorry my father and his wife could not be there, could not be in the house my mother bought for me to grow up and live a life as a single mother. She wanted to live in that house with me as a single mother. Bring me up. I'm sorry. That was the best decision my wife and I made.' He added, 'It wasn't about rejecting anyone. It was about respecting my mother and her wishes.'
The Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na actor also hinted at the reactions from Raj Babbar and his children after learning they were not invited. 'People are impulsive, people make impulsive choices and say things out of impulse and it was just distasteful and I think that bitter taste has remained. That bitter taste has remained,' he said.
Prateik acknowledged that his decision had strained his relationship with his father and half-siblings. 'The right thing to do was to what we did and then if, obviously now circumstances are different, everything is gone South and it's extremely complicated. But it's not for me. I'm still the same,' he said.
Raj Babbar was already married to Nadira Babbar and had two children, Aarya and Juhi, when he fell in love with fellow actor Smita Patil during the shooting of their 1982 film Bheegi Palkein. He left Nadira and secretly married Smita. The couple welcomed their son, Prateik, in November 1986. Tragically, Smita Patil passed away due to complications following childbirth. After her death, Raj Babbar reconciled with Nadira, and the two resumed their relationship.

Imran Khan's ex-wife Avantika says she could never ‘poison' their daughter against him: ‘Trying to damage their relationship will hurt her'
Actor Imran Khan became an instant heartthrob when he made his debut in Aamir Khan's production, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na (2008). As his career came out of its nascent stage and movie releases started becoming sparse, the actor tackled a lot on the personal front, including a divorce with his wife Avantika Malik, who recently talked about what all transpired behind the scenes. Avantika talked about her relationship with Imran in detail and how the divorce changed the trajectory of their lives as well as their daughter's. In an appearance on Nayandeep Rakhsit's YouTube channel, Avantika shared her state of mind from the time of her divorce and how the separation affected their daughter, who was only 5-years-old at the time. She said, 'When we told Imara for the first time that I and Imran were not going to be married anymore, the first question that popped into her head was whether she was going to lose her parents. Luckily, there were examples in my own family to show her that nobody can replace those people.' ALSO READ: Virat Kohli on how he 'organically' accepted Anushka Sharma's parents as his own, calls her father 'fearless': 'We are like friends' She acknowledged that 'it is a bit difficult for the kids to accept someone new in their parents' life' and how every child has a certain preconceived notion of what a family is supposed to look like. While she admitted that it certainly was a task for her daughter to be okay with everything, she eventually came around. She shared that they can now joke about Avantika getting a new boyfriend and shared with a laugh, 'We joke about it now, and I will ask her whether I should get a new boyfriend or not? She tells me there is no need and it is perfect, just the two of us. But she has grown now and understands that her parents are bound to have other partners.' When asked whether she ever let her personal feelings for Imran come in the way of parenting and if she ever thought of or tried to distance Imara from him, Avantika denied any such action and credited her own childhood for clarity regarding this. She said, 'I didn't have a very good relationship with my father in my early years, and I was very clear from the beginning that I did not want that for my child. If you decide to poison your child… it's because you are bitter and you have certain resentments. I wanted her to have a very beautiful relationship with him, and me trying to damage that is ultimately going to hurt her.' Imran Khan and Avantika Malik were married for 8 years and welcomed their daughter Imara in 2014 before finalising their divorce in 2019.
