The move has also raised questions if he intends to transition into entertainment or exit the network entirely as it goes through significant cost-cutting and network reorganization.
According to reports, Cooper is extremely dissatisfied with CNN and was pondering about leaving the network after over 20 years. Cooper reportedly makes $18 million a year, but he is reportedly unhappy with the network's dropping ratings and growing disenchanted with internal choices, especially those pertaining to who receives the spotlight.
Despite the changes and ongoing reports about his future exit, Cooper still hosts Anderson Cooper 360° and The Whole Story on CNN. While his resignation has not been officially announced, industry sources speculate that he might be getting ready for a change in his career, National Enquirer reported. He is still on air for the time being, but it seems doubtful that he will stay at CNN.

What is Anderson Cooper's salary?
Anderson Cooper is one of the highest-paid anchors in the media industry, reportedly earning $18 million year from CNN. The network hasn't yet confirmed the amount, but some sources suggest his earnings would be closer to $20 million. His pay is commensurate with his reputation as a premier journalist who hosts Anderson Cooper 360°, the network's flagship program, and contributes to CBS's 60 Minutes. Cooper's net worth was primarily earned through his journalism career instead of inheritance.
In 2025, CNN's financial difficulties and wider cost-cutting initiatives have brought focus on his exorbitant income. Cooper's compensation has apparently been the subject of an internal inquiry as Warner Bros. Discovery, the network's parent company, prepares for a spinoff and manages significant debt. His pay, which is much greater than that of many of his CNN coworkers, demonstrates the mounting pressure on established media organizations to defend high salaries in a changing and cutthroat news environment.
What is Anderson Cooper's net worth?
Anderson Cooper's net worth is most projected to be approximately $60 million as of 2025, as per Celebrity Net Worth.
However, some media outlets like USA Today reported that Cooper's net worth may have surpassed $200 million.

Trump's new tariffs hit over 70 nations: Who's affected and how

US President Donald Trump unveiled an executive order late Thursday night imposing new tariffs on a wide array of American trading partners. The sweeping measure affects 68 countries and all 27 members of the European Union, with rates set to take effect on August 7. The tariff rollout, originally scheduled for August 1, was delayed by a week to allow time for finalising the rate schedule, a senior administration official told AP. On a Truth Social post earlier, Trump wrote: 'The August First deadline is the August First deadline – it stands strong, and will not be extended. A big day for America!!!' According to CNN, the baseline tariff for goods coming into the US will remain at 10%, but only for countries with which the US enjoys a trade surplus — that is, nations from which the US imports less than it exports. For about 40 countries with which the US has a trade deficit, a 15% tariff will now apply. The new system is reportedly based on fairness and the trade imbalance each nation holds with the United States, a senior official told AP. Here are the key tariff rates at a glance: But the real sting lies in a list of 26 countries that now face tariffs above 15%, largely due to what the White House describes as excessive trade deficits. According to a White House announcement as cited by CNN, here are the nations with the highest imposed rates: Countries like India (25%) and Vietnam (20%) — both considered key to Washington's China pivot — now face significant barriers, raising concerns about long-term US supply chain strategies. Even the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) members, once considered exempt, aren't spared. On Thursday: Some countries have managed to avoid the worst. Thailand, for example, saw its proposed tariff slashed from 36% to 19% after last-minute talks. 'It's one of the major successes of Team Thailand… a win-win,' said Thai government spokesperson Jirayu Houngsub, as per AP. The Trump administration also confirmed it had reached new trade frameworks with Japan, South Korea, the EU, Indonesia, and the Philippines, though the final terms remain undisclosed. Trump's tariff agenda builds on his earlier 'Liberation Day' tariffs from April, which triggered stock market volatility. 'Because these deals are so vague and unfinished, policy uncertainty will remain very elevated,' said Scott Lincicome, economist at the Cato Institute, according to AP. (With inputs from AP, CNN)

Donald Trump says it's disgusting' what Russia is doing to Ukraine, amid strikes on Kyiv

US President Donald Trump threatened fresh sanctions Thursday while slamming Russia's military actions in Ukraine as "disgusting," as strikes on Kyiv killed at least 16 people. Washington has given Moscow until the end of next week to cease hostilities in Ukraine, under threat of severe economic sanctions.(AP) "Russia -- I think it's disgusting what they're doing. I think it's disgusting," Trump told reporters. Trump also said he would send his special envoy Steve Witkoff, currently in Israel, to visit Russia next. Russian President Vladimir Putin has already met Witkoff multiple times in Moscow, before Trump's efforts to mend ties with the Kremlin came to a grinding halt. Washington has given Moscow until the end of next week to cease hostilities in Ukraine, under threat of severe economic sanctions. Trump reiterated the deadline on Thursday. "We're going to put sanctions. I don't know that sanctions bother him," the US president said, referring to Putin. Trump has previously threatened that new measures could mean "secondary tariffs" targeting Russia's remaining trade partners, such as China and India. This would further stifle Russia, but would risk significant international disruption. The US president began his second term with his own rosy predictions that the war in Ukraine -- raging since Russia invaded its neighbor in February 2022 -- would soon end. In recent weeks, Trump has increasingly voiced frustration with Putin over Moscow's unrelenting offensive.
