Matthew Golden appears upset with Madden 26 speed score as Packers rookie ratings revealed
Ratings for the league's newest batch of rookies were released Wednesday, and the Green Bay Packers' first-round pick did not seem too enamored with one of his ratings. Despite running the 40-yard dash in a blazing 4.29 seconds at the NFL scouting combine, the fastest mark of any receiver, Matthew Golden has been awarded a speed rating of just 91 in this year's game.
There are 17 rookie receivers with a higher speed rating than Golden, with Dont'e Thornton of the Raiders receiving the highest rating, a 96. Thornton ran a 4.30 in the 40.
Golden seemed to express his displeasure with his speed score in a now deleted post on X, which simply contained three laughing emojis. His speed had been a talking point pre-draft, with the 40 time surprising many experts who did not see that type of explosive speed on tape.
Among the other notable receivers with higher speed ratings than Golden were Chicago's Luther Burden III, Houston's Jaylin Noel, New England's Kyle Williams, Kansas City's Jalen Royals and Seattle's Tory Horton, none of whom ran within a tenth of a second of Golden's 40 time.
Golden did receive an elite rating for acceleration of 97, which tracks with his 10-yard split which ranked in the 99th percentile compared to his positional peers since the inception of the combine.
In terms of his overall rating, Golden received a 76, which is tied for second among receivers with Burden, and just one rating point behind Tetairoa McMillan, who was the first wideout drafted with the exception of Travis Hunter, who has an 84 overall rating but is listed as a cornerback.
Green Bay's second-round pick Anthony Belton is rated 71 overall at launch; seventh among offensive tackles, which aligns with where he was drafted. Third-rounder Savion Williams has a 70 overall rating, tied for 15th among receivers, and has a speed score of 90.
Barryn Sorrell and Collin Oliver, drafted one after each other in the fourth and fifth round respectively, also both have an overall rating of 70, with Oliver's 87 speed and 90 acceleration standing out at the EDGE position.
Sixth-round pick Warren Brinson is rated 66 overall, while seventh-rounders Micah Robinson and John Williams have ratings of 67 and 63 respectively.
The ratings for undrafted rookies Tyler Cooper (64) and Jamon Johnson (63) have also been revealed, but there is no sign of a rating for Brinson's Georgia teammate Nazir Stackhouse, who has already turned heads at training camp, or Canadian quarterback Taylor Elgersma.

Browns QB Shedeur Sanders continues to quietly impress in training camp
Seven days of Cleveland Browns training camp are officially in the books. The headlines have centered around Martin Emerson's injury, Myles Garrett's dominance, and the four-man quarterback competition. Unsurprisingly, Shedeur Sanders has been the talk of the town, making a strong early impression. Throughout his first week of NFL training camp, Sanders has completed 70% of his passes in team drills, with five touchdowns and no interceptions, according to BetMGM. These stats should be taken with a grain of salt, as he is currently facing the second and third-team defenses. Still, having zero turnovers in his initial opportunities has made a positive impact on his reputation in Berea. Shedeur Sanders has consistently made the most of every opportunity to reinforce his image as a hard-working, dedicated athlete. He's been seen on social media putting in extra reps after practice and arriving early—often before his teammates. Off the field, Sanders has built strong connections with both the community and his teammates by participating in charity events and taking time to engage with fans in Berea after practices. The 'Sanders Circus' that many fans thought would enter Cleveland has been anything but that. The Browns will continue to challenge Sanders as the regular season approaches. He took his first reps against the Browns' first-team defense on Wednesday and is expected to earn more opportunities if he continues to progress. The real test for Sanders is likely to come during the Browns' joint practice with the Carolina Panthers on Friday, August 8th, where he will have his first taste of opposing NFL competition. Browns QB Shedeur Sanders gets zero first-team reps due to arm soreness
Even with quarterback Kenny Pickett sidelined with a hamstring injury, the Cleveland Browns did not give Shedeur Sanders a single first-team rep in Saturday's practice. It turns out that was for good reason, however. Sanders did not throw a football outside of warmups in Saturday's training camp session as the team held him out with general arm soreness. This means that Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel were the only two quarterbacks taking reps in the team's scrimmage portions of practice, while Sanders did participate in the run game drills and other non-throwing activities. The rep count and camp stats have been a popular thing to do in training camp, although context is lacking with those. In this regard, there is no playing favorites or withholding of reps from Sanders. In fact, head coach Kevin Stefanski has been high on what Sanders has done in practice to continue to win over the coaching staff. Sanders will have his first real opportunity to do that this coming week as he is likely to get all of the second half snaps against the Carolina Panthers in Cleveland's first preseason game. If Sanders wants to prove to the staff that he deserves first-team reps, doing it live against second and third teamers needs to be automatic. There are still three weeks of training camp left for the Browns to sort through their quarterback situation. Can Sanders prove he deserves more work with the first-team unit?
