Jamie Lee Curtis chokes up while reflecting on career success ‘she never thought she'd get'
The 66-year-old actor, best known for roles in Halloween (1978) and Freaky Friday (2003), won her first Oscar in 2023 for her performance in the sci-fi film Everything Everywhere All at Once. A year later, she took home her first Emmy for her supporting part in the hit chef drama The Bear.
Appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Curtis said she has been reaping 'opportunity after opportunity' ever since receiving the accolades, with the TV host agreeing that the actor has 'never been hotter'.
Curtis held back the tears as she reflected on the transformational last five years, saying: 'I'm having a moment, I'm having freedom.'
'I've been an actor, I've been in horror movies, obviously, for a long time – and only recently I've understood that I'm an artist,' she said. 'I'm being serious… I never referred to myself as an artist until about five or six years ago.'
Curtis said she feels as though she is in a 'creative meadow'.
'That makes me cry,' she said, becoming emotional. 'I feel like I'm in this meadow and I'm surrounded by just opportunity and beauty.'
Asked by Colbert whether she feels more free in her career, Curtis replied: 'It's incredible. Ultimately, to have a free mind, be able to think for yourself, to have an expression of your soul through the work you do, whatever the work you do, even if it's a technical job, you still express your soul.
'I feel like this instrument is wide open and free and having opportunity after opportunity that I never thought I'd get.'
Curtis will next star in Freakier Friday, a much-anticipated sequel to the hugely successful 2003 comedy Freaky Friday.
Freaky Friday originally starred Curtis and Lindsay Lohan as Tess and Anna, a mother and daughter forced to live as one another after switching bodies.
Asked why the sequel took 12 years, Curtis said the wait was intentional. 'Everybody I've ever spoken to has asked, 'Will there be a Freaky Friday sequel?' When I went all around the world for Halloween Ends in 2022, every stop, they asked,' the actor told People.
'And the answer was, 'Lindsay has to be old enough to have had a teenager.' So then obviously Lindsay had this beautiful baby. She came and visited me, brought the baby. At this moment we started really seriously talking about it.'

Scott Hanson reveals fate after ESPN's new billion-dollar deal to takeover RedZone sparks fan meltdown
Scott Hanson has confirmed he will be retained as host of NFL RedZone after ESPN's new billion-dollar deal acquired the show and sparked a fan meltdown that the iconic broadcaster may now longer be the property's presenter. Hanson confirmed the news, promising to continue to be the narrator for seven hours of live football every Sunday during the regular season. RedZone shows live highlights from every NFL game as they happen, allowing fans to not channel surf and see all the major plays from the gridiron in one medium. Although changes to the presentation may happen under the ESPN banner, losing Hanson was a step too far for some, with a massive sigh of relief coming from NFL fans. 'It's official. (& for those wondering: yes, I will still be hosting RedZone.) Fired up for a great season! Optimistic about this new partnership! (& I get to call @AdamSchefter 'colleague' for the 2nd time in my career… nice bonus!),' Hanson said on X. Schefter, the NFL's chief news-breaker, replied, 'My honor.' RedZone is moving to ESPN after the sports-programming network acquired the iconic show Still a little up in the air with the move to ESPN is whether RedZone will stay commercial free, which would be a first for the sports programming network. Hanson did not comment on that on his post, drawing the ire of some fans. RedZone was on its own channel for cable packages, allowing the need for no ads. 'If there's commercials I'm taking my talents to StreamEast,' one NFL fan said. 'I can already see you co hosting with Buzz Lightyear one week because Disney owns RedZone now,' a second football fan said. The first edition of RedZone under the NFL banner takes place in a little over a month, with beloved fans of Hanson and the format waiting for any word on if there will be changes after ESPN's monster deal. As part of the deal in acquiring the NFL Network, RedZone, and other properties, the NFL now owns a 10% stake in ESPN.

Blake Lively is hilariously spoofed in deposition skit by same comedian who roasted Sydney Sweeney
Blake Lively has been spoofed in a hilarious deposition skit by Los Angeles-based comedian Michael Pavano - who also roasted Sydney Sweeney amid woke backlash against her American Eagle campaign. Last week, Blake was accompanied by her husband Ryan, sister Robyn and eight lawyers as she gave evidence under oath in New York City as part of her ongoing legal battle with It Ends With Us director/co-star Justin Baldoni, who was also at the deposition with his own legal team. The pair are preparing to go to court next year in March after Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment and of creating a smear campaign against her in a lawsuit filed in December 2024. Shortly after last week's deposition, Michael parodied the Gossip Girl alum in a skit titled 'The Blake Lively Deposition.' The actor is no stranger to playing Blake in a number of videos uploaded to his Instagram and TikTok pages - where he has so far gained a combined total of nearly 1.2 million followers across both platforms. In one clip shared on Tuesday, he could be seen donning a blonde wig and multiple beanies - seemingly a reference to Blake's viral outfits that her character wore in It Ends With Us. Blake Lively has been spoofed in a hilarious deposition skit by Los Angeles-based comedian Michael Pavano - who also roasted Sydney Sweeney amid woke backlash against her American Eagle campaign View this post on Instagram A post shared by Michael Pavano (@michaelpavano) The actress previously revealed that some of the items that she wore while filming the movie based on Colleen Hoover's novel of the same name were her own. 'A lot of it's my real-life clothes or my husband's clothes or my girlfriend Gigi's clothes,' she told Today last year, referencing to pal and model Gigi Hadid. 'I was borrowing some.' Michael's deposition video kicked off as his version of Blake was questioned why she chose to bring eight lawyers along with her. 'That's because they keep quitting,' he answered, mimicking the actress's voice. 'And I need rotation. Besides, walking into a room with eight lawyers behind you looks pretty bada** doesn't it Justin?' The camera then panned over to another actor playing Justin - who had both starred in and directed It Ends With Us. Blake was also cast in a leading role in the movie and she additionally received a producer credit as well. 'Please stop talking to me,' the actor playing Justin said. As the deposition skit began to carry on, Michael then interrupted to begin asking 'technical' questions about the camera before offering his own direction. A voice from behind the camera asked, 'Ms. Lively. Do you know that this is a legal deposition and not a film production?' 'Please stop talking to me,' the actor playing Justin said. As the deposition began to carry on, Michael then interrupted to begin asking 'technical' questions about the camera before offering his own direction 'Absolutely,' Michael replied. 'But I'm being recorded right now and I would like to make this something that we're both proud of. I'm trying to protect us both. 'So it would be great if we can just lose the top light and punch up the dialogue a little bit, please,' he continued. When asked to 'define' his role when it came to It Ends With Us per the contract, Michael answered, 'Well the contract said actor - lead actor - but I knew that I would be the heart and soul of the piece. 'So, I made sure on purpose I didn't reveal that I would be directing, editing, overseeing every aspect of the project. I just did it.' Blake previously claimed that her husband Ryan rewrote one of the scenes in the film and later apologized to the movie's screenwriter Christy Hall. The actor playing Justin calmly explained, 'When Blake first signed on to the movie, she told me that she didn't need control. Two days later, she took over craft services and renamed all the snacks. Why? Couldn't tell you.' He later said that she had sent him a different ending to the film for three months before the pair began to argue about his directing. Michael uploaded a second part to the deposition skit which showed Michael attempting to comb the actor playing Justin's hair. Other topics were brought up in the clip, such as Justin's name allegedly being removed from the It Ends With Us poster and claims Blake requested that Justin and his family stay in the basement during the NYC premiere of the film. 'Well, we were basically over capacity,' Michael said in response. 'Something had to give. It was either Justin's family or the floral archway. I also sent them a chacuterie board which by the way I was never thanked for.' His version of Blake later talked about saving the deposition and explained that it is a 'full-on character study.' Michael also parodied Sydney Sweeney's American Eagle campaign last week in a video shared to his social media pages. He dressed in denim and mimicked her sultry voiceover from the ads - which have since garnered backlash from woke critics. Last week on Thursday, Blake was accompanied by her husband Ryan and sister Robyn to the deposition in NYC. Blake was also joined by eight lawyers, but her husband and sibling did not go into the same room as her where the deposition took place. Sources who had witnessed the star arrive to the deposition stated that she 'cut a confident figure.' Justin also was in the same room with Blake as well as his own business partner Jamie Heath and others. Blake claimed Justin was able to nuzzle her neck and comment on the way she smelled without anyone else on set hearing because their microphones were switched off. But footage which later emerged seemed to prove the opposite: not only were the microphones on, but the pair had spent most of the scene happily chatting about their respective spouses. Blake also claimed Justin orchestrated a negative media campaign against her have also been called into question thanks to her reliance on what his team have described as 'doctored' texts. Documents filed by Justin claim that the texts between his publicists Melissa Nathan and Jennifer Abel, had been edited to remove context and were incomplete. Earlier this year a New York judge tossed the actress's emotional distress claim after she refused to release her medical records to Justin's team. However last month Blake claimed total 'vindication' after the judge sensationally tossed almost all of Justin's $400 million countersuit against the actress and her husband Ryan. There will be further depositions before the case comes to trial in March next year. Blake's lawyers have subpoenaed 107 content creators who have circulated negative stories about her in what they say was a coordinated campaign. The creators say that the content arose organically due to Lively's behavior on the press tour for the film, and behavior on previous publicity tours which had given her a reputation for 'mean girl' behavior.
