Ex-Orlando Pirates star says Amakhosi have signed great players

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Mpho Makola believes the Betway Premiership giants have sacrificed two quality players, and to Kaizer Chiefs' benefit.
The fullback duo of Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane will wear gold and black next season, after leaving Orlando Pirates as free agents.
The two players will compete with Kaizer Chiefs' existing full-backs Reeve Frosler, Dillan Solomons, Edmilson Dove, and Bradley Cross.

'It's unfortunate that they left Orlando Pirates. I rate them highly; they are exceptional players in terms of character and quality,' Makola said via FARPost .
'The level of competition at the team [Pirates] is high, but that does not mean they are not good enough. Some players will obviously be sacrificed.
'I know for sure that Chiefs will get more from these boys. They will bring more competition to the team. From the way I see it, they are still going to face the same positional competition at Chiefs.

'A team like Chiefs needs those kinds of players, those that have the mindset of winners and the never-say-die attitude. It's a master stroke move,' Makola added.
Paseka Mako, 31, who joined the Buccaneers from Chippa United in 2018, played 173 games for the Sea Robbers. The Zebediela-born defender also became a Bafana Bafana international in 2023 before a long-term injury.
Meanwhile, Thabiso Monyane, aged 25, has never played for another Betway Premiership club other than Orlando Pirates. He was promoted from the juniors in 2019 before making 95 appearances wearing the famous black and white strip.
With such Betway Premiership proven experience, we can expect the duo to make an instant impact at Kaizer Chiefs.

FIFA Club World Cup: What time is the Sundowns match?

From the Betway Premiership to the FIFA Club World Cup stage, Mamelodi Sundowns will kick off their Group F campaign against South Korea's Ulsan Hyundai FC in Inter&Co Stadium, Orlando, Florida. The game will start at 00:00 on Wednesday. DStv's SuperSport Channel 203 will broadcast the match live. Sundowns qualified for the prestigious tournament as one of four African clubs alongside Al Ahly, Wydad Casablanca and Esperance, based on consistent performances in the CAF Chaampions League over the past four years. New British digital streaming platform, DAZN will also air the game live here. Sundowns' opponents Ulsan HD, currently third in the K League, have won their domestic league title five times, most recently in 2024. The club also lifted the Korean FA Cup once, in 2017, and, most importantly, the Champions League twice, in 2012 and 2020. Image: SABC Sport 'We understand the reality, but we're willing to make our best in every challenge we face, and that's also a test for us [to see] which level we're at, because we know in Africa we are one of the biggest teams,' the Portuguese mentor told the media. Latest update: Bafana winger to Orlando Pirates 'But we also want to understand on which level we can be regarding different realities in the world, and obviously for myself, as a coach coming from Europe and having already worked in France's Ligue 1, Spain's La Liga, Greece, Ukraine, and Portugal, of course. The Sundowns coach continued: 'So I have quite a [good] idea of the level of teams and players, but it's quite challenging to understand that teams will make a big difference, and we want to be very strong as a team. 'We know we have very important players, but we want to be very strong as a team when we arrive [back] in the Champions League,' Cardoso concluded. Chiefs eye Sundowns star, while bidding for Young African's star!

Kaizer Chiefs have reignited their interest in Mamelodi Sundowns defender Terrence Mashego, who was left off the squad currently playing at the FIFA Club World Cup. The Mamelodi-born defender failed to solidify a starting role this season as Miguel Cardoso prioritised Aubrey Modiba, Divine Lunga and Asekho Tiwani. According to sources close to the player, Mashego is keen on a move away in order to secure minutes next season. Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs are eyeing Young Africans attacking midfielder Maxi Ngenzeli. 'At the moment the club has not yet signed some of the players who they want nor those they are looking at. It's believed that they are spreading the search wide so that they can get the kind of players they really need this season,' an inside source said. 'Apparently, Maxwell Nzengeli is one player they are also looking at. Coach Nabi knows him already, and the scouts and recruiters are also believed to have liked him and are looking at the possibility of getting him, depending on the conditions around the transfer.' Another player on their radar is SuperSport left-back Neo Rapoo. 'Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are both keen to sign SuperSport United left-back Neo Rapoo ahead of the new season,' a source revealed. 'His performances as he led South Africa U20 to the Africa Cup of Nations title earned him interest in Scandinavia and the Gulf but sources as Matsatsansa have confirmed Chiefs and Pirates are both seriously after the player who is seen as future senior national team left-back.' 'With Orlando Pirates having released Paseka Mako and the retirement of Innocent Maela, their interest on the promising full-back comes as no surprise, while Kaizer Chiefs are looking to remedy a position that has plagued them in the last couple of seasons.' Kaizer Chiefs transfer news: Tau, Appollis, Mayambela, Makhubu

Kaizer Chiefs will kick off their preseason training in the next few weeks, hoping to sign several players. This will be Nasreddine Nabi's second preseason with the Glamour Boys. The Soweto giants will spend their preseason in the Netherlands preparing for the 2025/26 campaign. Chiefs finished ninth last season in the Betway Premiership and will not be part of the MTN8 competition in August. Amakhosi have been linked with a number of top players, including Feisal Salum, Wonderboy Makhubu, Fiston Mayele, Percy Tau and other top players. This week, KickOff reported that Kaizer Chiefs have enquired about Sekhukhune United striker Wonderboy Makhubu. The striker was on loan at Magesi from Sekhukhune, but Babina Noko are expected to keep him next season. 'Kaizer Chiefs have made contact with the player's representatives,' a source told KickOff . 'Makhubu's contract with Sekhukhune United indeed expires in June. But the contract has an option. It's an open secret that Sekhukhune will exercise the option. 'If they do so, that means Kaizer Chiefs have to pay.' Amakhosi have also been linked to Polokwane City star Oswin Appollis. The winger is likely to leave Rise and Shine next season, but it remains to be seen if he'll move to a PSL club or move abroad. If all fails, Amakhosi can always sign Bafana Bafana winger Mihlai Mayambela. The 28-year-old has reportedly expressed his interest in joining Kaizer Chiefs. Another Bafana Bafana player linked to Amakhosi is Percy Tau. The 31-year-old is currently a free agent, having left Qatar.
