Hoardings, banners with ‘Antim Johar' message put up in Ranchi to pay tributes to Shibu Soren
Hoardings, banners and posters with a message 'Antim Johar' (last salutation) were put up in Jharkhand's capital Ranchi to pay tributes to former Chief Minister Shibu Soren. Soren, who was undergoing treatment at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi for over a month for kidney-related problems, died at the age of 81 on Monday. At Ranchi's Karamtoli Chowk, a large hoarding was put up, displaying a message, in Hindi, 'Antim Johar…Vinamra Shradhanjali Jharkhand Rajya Nirmata Disom Guru Shibu Soren' (Last Salutation…Humble tributes to Jharkhand state creator Dishom Guru Shibu Soren). 'Jharkhand has never seen a leader like Shibu Soren. His contribution to Jharkhand will always be in the heart of every citizen of the state,' Ramesh Hansda (45), a commuter, said after noticing the large hoarding at Karamtoli. JMM supporters and followers of Shibu Soren have been making a beeline at his Morabadi residence since morning to have a last glimpse of their leader. Mortal remains of Shibu Soren will be brought to the Jharkhand assembly, where ministers, legislators and other dignitaries will pay their homage this morning, and his body will be taken to his native village Nemra in Jharkhand's Ramgarh district, where the last rites of the Rajya Sabha MP will be performed, a JMM leader said. All government schools have been closed on Tuesday, while most of the private educational institutes have also declared a holiday in honour of the former CM. Business associations, such as the Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI), have appealed to traders to keep their shops and establishments shut in respect of Guruji.

Traders begin protest against illegal encroachments in Chandni Chowk
NEW DELHI: Traders in Chandni Chowk began a week-long silent protest on Monday, accusing civic agencies and the police of ignoring court orders and allowing illegal encroachments to return to the redeveloped stretch of the historic market. Led by the Chandni Chowk Sarv Vyapar Mandal, the protest began at 3 pm from Sunheri Masjid at Fountain Chowk, with participants marching silently towards Red Fort holding placards with excerpts from orders of the Supreme Court and the Delhi High Court. The demonstrators sat near Red Fort for 30 minutes before returning to the starting point. 'This is a protest to uphold the dignity of our courts and demand that their orders be implemented,' said Sanjay Bhargava, president of the association. 'We have been doing the rounds of the Supreme Court, High Court and the National Green Tribunal for years regarding these matters. Despite strict orders, the situation has worsened,' he further said. The protestors allege that hawkers and squatters have been allowed to encroach upon the 1.3 km stretch redeveloped under court supervision at a cost of Rs 140 crore. The traders also claimed that the Delhi Police and the MCD have 'willfully ignored' court orders prohibiting hawking and squatting in certain areas. Bhargava said the group has made repeated complaints to the MCD and Delhi Police but no action has been taken. 'Even Member of Parliament for Chandni Chowk, Praveen Khandelwal has visited four times, but no one listens,' he added. The protest will continue till August 14, with a march each day to different parts of the area, including Town Hall and Fatehpuri Masjid. The traders say they want to 'name and shame' those responsible for the deterioration of the redeveloped area and seek freedom from the 'corruption that has hijacked public land and defied court directions.'

Delhi: 5 Bangladeshi nationals arrested for forcibly trying to enter the Red Fort days ahead of Independence Day
Five Bangladeshi nationals were arrested for attempting to forcibly enter the Red Fort premises, Delhi Police said on Tuesday. The incident occurred on Monday, when security personnel at the monument noticed the suspicious behaviour of the five men, despite the Red Fort being closed to the public from July 15 to August 15 for security reasons ahead of Independence Day celebrations. Delhi Police further informed that all five men, aged between 20-25 years, are illegal immigrants working as labourers in Delhi. The police recovered some Bangladeshi documents from them. The probe is underway. Meanwhile, on Saturday, Gurugram Police detained ten individuals identified as Bangladeshi nationals for residing illegally in the city, police officials confirmed. Identification documents recovered from them verified their Bangladeshi citizenship. 'Ten illegal Bangladeshi immigrants have been detained. Bangladeshi documents have been recovered from them. The process to deport them has begun,' Sandeep Kumar, PRO of Gurugram Police, stated. In related news, seven police personnel, including constables and head constables assigned to secure the Red Fort, have been suspended for negligence in their duties. As part of preparations for the programme scheduled on August 15, the Delhi Police conduct daily security drills. During a drill conducted on Saturday by the Special Cell, its team in plain clothes entered the Red Fort premises carrying a dummy bomb. The security personnel on duty failed to detect the fake device, leading to their suspension.
