Martina Navratilova refused entry into The Ivy because of her dog

Perth Now10-07-2025
Martina Navratilova was refused entry into The Ivy because of her dog.
The 68-year-old tennis legend has been covering Wimbledon for the BBC and had decided to have dinner at the upmarket London cafe but their rules did not allow her to bring her pet pooch in with her.
She wrote on X: "Well — tried to have dinner at the Ivy at Wimbledon, but they won't allow Lulu into the restaurant — so plan B."
The sports star then clarified to her followers that her alternative plan actually worked out better as she dined in an Italian restaurant called Cent Anni.
Alongside a photo of herself and Cent Anni's manager, she said: "Plan B was actually better - always a nice quiet and quick meal, great pasta and Lulu is welcome:), here with the big boss:)"
One fan wrote to Martina to commend the restaurant for enforcing the rules despite the "tremendous pressure" they were under given her celebrity status.
They wrote: "Well done to the staff that must have had tremendous pressure on them to make the rules apply to everyone, knowing full well who you are."
But Martina quickly insisted that none of the staff had any idea who she was anyway.
She replied: "They had no idea. I could have sat outside but then I couldn't eat because of all the people walking by. So sweet of you anyway."
Before beginning her work on coverage for the annual tennis tournament, Martina had implored Emma Raducanu - who exited Wimbledon after a 7-6 6-4 defeat earlier this week - to find a resolution to her coaching situation amid her run to the quarter-finals at the Miami Open.
In March, Martina told Sky Sports News: "If she stays healthy and plays this well, then she'll be seeded at Roland Garros. I think she'll move up the ranking well enough into the top 30. The biggest question mark is her health.
"Hopefully she can sort out her coaching situation because she's been in a state of flux, but I think she needs to commit to somebody and stay with them for a little bit, see how that works.
"If she played like she did against (Jessica) Pegula, then the sky's the limit."

Jamie Lee Curtis has been a 'mother figure' to Freakier Friday co-star Lindsay Lohan throughout her life

Jamie Lee Curtis has been a "mother figure" to Lindsay Lohan all her life. The two actresses starred together in 2003 comedy film Freaky Friday, the plot of which sees Lindsay's character Anna Coleman swap bodies with her mother Tess Coleman, played by Curtis, 66, The pair have reprised their roles for Disney sequel Freakier Friday, but for more than two decades Lindsay says they have maintained a "true friendship" which is a rare thing in Hollywood. Speaking to Italian publication IO Donna, Lindsay said of Jamie: "We are great friends. She's always been a mother figure, even off-set. "We laugh a lot together. She called me when I was pregnant, and from there we started talking about the sequel. "Ours is a true friendship, which is rare sometimes in Hollywood." Lindsay has a two-year-old son Luai with her husband, financier Bader Shammas and she admits motherhood has had a major impact on her life and helped her play Anna as an adult woman with her own family in Freakier Friday. She said: "Motherhood opened up a new world for me, full of emotions and responsibilities. It allowed me to portray Anna Coleman in a deeper and more empathetic light: she's a woman trying to do everything to the best of her ability, like millions of other women, torn between home and work." However, Lohan, 39, did not bring Luai on set because she thinks it's important to keep work and family life separate. She shared: "I try to keep family and work separate. The biggest challenge for a mother is managing time. I try to be there as much as possible: in the morning before filming, and in the evening when I get back. When I'm not working, I'm simply a mother. My son, for now, stays out of the spotlight." Despite the tribulations she went through as she transitioned from being a child actress to an adult, such as spells in rehab and legal issues, Lohan would not try and stop him from following in her acting footsteps. She said: "He'll do what he wants, and I'll always support him. In the meantime... he needs to finish his plate of vegetables."

Lindsay Lohan still 'learning' how to balance work and motherhood

Lindsay Lohan is going through a "learning process" as she attempts to balance work in Hollywood with raising her young son. The actress became a first-time mom in 2023 when she gave birth to Luai, two, with her husband Bader Shammas and she has since got back to work filming a cameo in the Mean Girls reboot, appearing in several Netflix movies and starring in Freaky Friday sequel Freakier Friday - and Lindsay admits she still figuring out how to juggle work with parenting duties. She told the BBC: "When you become a mum, your whole life changes and it's important to be able to balance work and being a mum which is definitely a learning process." Freakier Friday reunites the actress with her former co-star Jamie Lee Curtis, who insisted she still sees herself as a a mother figure to Lindsay and was thrilled to meet her young son. Jamie told the outlet: "I take my job seriously and when I'm the mother or elder to a young actor I take great responsibility to make sure they can always count on my friendship and love. "We've been united all the away from her teens to her twenties and just recently she brought her baby to meet me in LA." Lindsay and her family now live in Dubai and she recently insisted she's able to live a much more "normal" life in the glitzy city. During an appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark, Lindsay explained: "It's just far away from Hollywood, and I live a very normal life. "There's no worry of like, I can't go eat at this place 'cause someone's gonna take a picture of my son. And it's just ... I feel very safe ... "You can't take a picture of someone else if you're in a restaurant. You have to ask the person, which is a big difference from here." Lindsay also recently admitted she's come along way since her troubled years after shooting to fame as a child star and she now feels more "settled" and "positive". She told CNN: "I'm at ease in my life because I've lived, I feel like, such a long life at such a young age. I feel wiser now and very settled. I've become such a positive person."

Jenna Ortega finds life online 'very isolating'

Jenna Ortega finds life online "very isolating" and worries it's "harder to find a sense of self" in the age of social media. The Wednesday star, 22, is convinced many people "don't talk to each other in person" anymore and she thinks it has eroded their sense of community - insisting she likes the idea of life in the 1970s when there was no social media or cell phones. She told the BBC: "I wasn't around in the 70s, but I hear stories of people knocking on their neighbours' doors, and the bikes going all throughout the city, and just expecting to meet someone at a certain time on a certain location ... "[Today] people don't talk to each other in person. They're interacting and finding their community online, which can be very isolating. "Also, there are so many voices and so many opinions that you're exposed to, much more than you would typically be, or that humans are kind of meant to be exposed to. "So I think it's harder to find a sense of self. Young people are struggling to find: 'What makes my voice stand out? What is it about me in this world and this society today that gives me a sense of purpose or control or authority?'" Jenna went on to insist The Addams Family spin-off show - in which she plays Wednesday Addams - has an important message for the younger generation. She explained: "There's great comfort in seeing people who are so obviously themselves, freely, and place priority where it matters, and that's your family, that's who's in front of you, your special interests, that's your strength and your courage and your confidence in your voice. "It's very easy now to get swept up in some sort of sheep mentality, and I think it's so important for young people to see this family now more than ever." It comes after it was revealed Wednesday has been renewed for a third season. The hit Netflix show is set to return on August 6 for the first half of its second series, but a third run of episodes has already been announced. In a joint statement, showrunners Alfred Cough and Miles Millar said: "It's been a dark delight to watch Wednesday cast her spell over audiences across the globe — one deadpan quip at a time. "We're beyond thrilled she'll be returning to stalk the halls of Nevermore in Season 3. "This time, she'll unearth more of the school's sinister secrets — and descend even deeper into the Addams family crypt. Or, as Wednesday would say: 'Nothing brings a family together like a good exhumation.'"
